Telemundo’s Premiere of ‘El Senor de los Cielos’ Delivers Over 2.3 Million Viewers

THE PREMIERE OF TELEMUNDO MEDIA’S ORIGINAL PRODUCTION “EL SEÑOR DE LOS CIELOS” AVERAGES OVER 2.3 MILLION VIEWERS, DELIVERING A 40% SHARE IN TOTAL VIEWERS
The Telemundo Studios and Caracol TV production ranked #1 in San Francisco, New York and Miami, among all Spanish-language stations in adults 18-49
MIAMI – April 16, 2013 – Last night’s premiere of Telemundo Media’s new original production “El Señor de los Cielos” (Lord of the Skies) at 10pm ET averaged 2,346,000 total viewers and 1,437,000 adults 18-49 according to Nielsen, ranking as the network’s second highest rated premiere regardless of time period in NPM history, right behind the runaway hit “La Reina del Sur.” A co-production between Telemundo Studios and Caracol TV featuring novela stars Rafael Amaya, Ximena Herrera, Fernanda Castillo and Gabriel Porras, “El Señor de los Cielos” delivered a 42% share of adults 18-49 and 40% share of total viewers among major Spanish language broadcast networks in its time period. The much anticipated premiere reached a cumulative audience of nearly 3 million viewers, including 1,860,000 adults 18-49.
“El Señor de los Cielos'” premiere brought significant growth to the time period vs. the prior 4-week average, more than doubling its average audience among adults 18-49 (1.4million vs. 706K, +104%) and adults 18-34 (712K vs. 352K, +102%) and growing its total viewers by +88% (2.35 million vs. 1.25 million), while Univision’s “Que Bonito Amor” premiere declined by -22% in adults 18-49 (1,699,000 vs 2,176,000).
Locally, the novela’s premiere ranked #1 in San Francisco, New York and Miami among all Spanish-Language stations in adults 18-49, beating Univision in three of the top ten local markets. The premiere ranked #2 in overall broadcast in Miami& Houston and in Los Angeles outperformed FOX in its time period growing by 73% vs. April 2012, while the local Univision station declined -38%. In NewYork, the premiere outranked Univision, ABC and CBS and grew the time period by 103% vs. April 2012, while the Univision station declined by 41%. In Miami, the premiere outranked Univision, ABC, CBS and NBC growing the time period by 55% vs. April 2012, while the Univision station declined by 29%. In San Francisco, the premiere also out-delivered Univision and grew the time period by 66% vs. April 2012 while Univision declined by 54%. Lastly, in Houston, the premiere outperformed ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX and grew the time period by170% vs. April 2012.
According to Trendrr, “El Señor de los Cielos” was Telemundo’s strongest novela premiere ever on Social Media, out delivering Univision’s social media activity during the same time-period premiere by more than 74% (9,142 vs 4,201 social media engagements).
“El Señor de los Cielos,” Telemundo’s most ambitious production to date, tells the story of Aurelio Casillas (Rafael Amaya), one of the most prominent Mexican drug lords from the 1990’s, whose ambition was to become one of the richest and most powerful men in Mexico. From the moment his photo was published, his face became his biggest stumbling block. The authorities, as well as his enemies, began to pursue him and he opted for high-risk plastic surgery to conceal his identity. This action-filled story is full of raw passion and emotions, untold luxury, suffering, intrigue and suspense.
