NBC SHIFTS DRAMA ‘Grimm’ TO TUESDAYS

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — April 19, 2013 — NBC is moving its drama “Grimm” to Tuesdays (10-11 p.m. ET) beginning April 30, behind a previously scheduled two-hour episode of “The Voice.” “Grimm” will remain in that 10 p.m. Tuesday timeslot through May 21.

Dateline” will replace “Grimm” at 9 p.m. Fridays, beginning April 26.

It has not yet been determined when or where remaining episodes of “Ready For Love” will be aired.

    @Tom
    Those will be some thin (content-wise) episodes of The Voice if they are really getting stretched to two hours.

    They had original scheduled two two-hour episodes of The Voice on Tuesdays.

    If they decide to keep The Voice going to 10pm after that, it will likely be with recaps at 8pm and the actual results show at 9pm, like they’ve done so many times with AGT.

    I doubt they will actually produce any more of The Voice than they had planned to before this move.

    Well Grimm is finally getting that Voice lead in it was supposed to get back in September

    However I’m a little surprised they made this move at this point with Grimm and not Hannibal. However Grimm definitely deserve the extra exposure

    @Lance
    What a shocker! I said 2 weeks top … There was NO way NBC leaves a show that bleeds 10 million in that coveted slot until seasons’ end. (Unless they are taking their scheduling advice from Ultima & Alex, that is!)

    :roll:

    I said they shouldn’t pull it after one week, because it was a multi-month high in the timeslot and it might hold those numbers or improve in week two. I never said that they should keep it there the rest of the season if the ratings dropped.

    Next time you want to be snarky, try not to make yourself look foolish in the process.

  • alexjones

    this is a odd decision, I can understand them moving it THIS week, (due to the boston bombings) but keeping it there for the remainder of the season? I’m guessing they must be testing it out to see how the ratings fare there, if it does well they’ll keep it there next season, if it dosen’t do well they’ll move it back to friday come september.

  • Carl

    Not too sure if this will work. It’s a very different show in tone and nothing following The Voice seems to keep an audience.

  • v

    They could always Double up Revolution on Tuesday 9pm, or just put repeat of Hannibal or Chicago Fire.
    But this is NBC.

  • Ann

    I don’t currently watch anything on Tuesdays so I like this move from that standpoint. Based on competition in that timeslot, I think Grimm could do pretty well.

  • Ultima

    @Lance
    Expect the announcement from NBC tommorow unless they decide to waste another Tuesday night before they make their move.

    That’s still a ridiculous comment. Ready for Love did have the best numbers in the timeslot since January. Had it held those numbers this week (or improved), NBC probably would have left it on the schedule.

    And yes, people who thought that NBC would shuffle up their line-up because of Ready for Love are delusional. Some of them are still even saying they should have (Hannibal to Tuesdays, Grimm to Thursdays!); it’s one thing to pull a failure and replace it for sweeps, it’s another to play musical chairs with your shows.

  • That Dude

    So this is the last Friday episode? I can’t find an episode order for Grimm. I remember people saying they should give Grimm extra episodes because of the early start, I just can’t remember if they actually did.

  • Ultima

    @That Dude
    So this is the last Friday episode?

    Yes; it will be off next week and then air for 4 weeks on Tuesday starting 30 April.

    I can’t find an episode order for Grimm.

    22 episodes

    Someone at NBC must come to this website to take notes on programming strategies. I too am surprised that Grimm is now being moved from Friday when I was advocating that before its return last month. I can’t say that the move will hurt Grimm & hopefully it’ll find a larger audience following the 2 hr Voice on Tues. Just as Supernatural improved its numbers moving to Wed maybe this move for Grimm could be permanent. If it is I could see Parenthood most likely moving to Wed at 8pm instead of airing failed comedies at that hour.

  • Ricky

    I’m happy to have something else on Tuesdays to watch now (since Vegas got moved and Go On has ended). And hey, maybe Grimm’s fanbase is devoted enough to follow it anywhere!

  • bjssp

    This isn’t a bad move at all, but I wonder what it means for Grimm over the long-term. Why move it to Tuesdays if they are going to move it back to Fridays next season? Perhaps this is a sign that the show will be moved to a new night next season.

    If not, why move it? It would have made more sense to simply repeat an episode or two that had already aired this season.

  • Bitter Ringer Fan

    Poor Eva but seriously Ready to Flop had Flop written all over its name! Very curious to see how will Grimm perform on tuesdays after The Voice.

  • Alex

    Just to add another dimension to this discussion lets stop focusing on the NBC schedule for a moment.

    If we assume that NBC intends to run 2 hours of The Voice on Tuesday night for the rest of the season that’s going to have a pretty big impact on the other networks particularly if the show holds around its current level moving forward. Surely there’s absolutely no way New Girl and The Mindy Project hold-up against The Voice in the 9PM hour? Back in October when The Voice had a 2 hour show on Tuesday New Girl dropped to a 2.3 from a 2.7 the previous week and Mindy dropped to a 1.5 from a 1.9 for its previous original. The last original episode of New Girl got a 2.2 and Mindy a 1.5 do they drop further against The Voice at 9PM?

    You also have to wonder what this means for the Dancing with the Stars Results Shows. Presumably they’ll also drop against The Voice and it also seems safe to assume that if Dancing with the Stars drops on Tuesday night then so does Body of Proof at 10PM. Not to mention the fact that actual competition in the 10PM from a Voice inflated Grimm is presumably going to have some kind of impact on Body of Proof and Golden Boy anyway regardless of how their lead-ins hold up.

    Doesn’t NBC have a Wednesday edition of The Voice coming up soon as well?

  • Ultima

    @Lance
    Ultima, You were really expecting RFL to improve this week?

    No, but it was certainly a possibility. Fashion Star was up in its second week in basically the same timeslot last year.’

    Even though it tanked every half hour last week despite weeks of heavy promotion?

    2.1, 1.6, 1.3, 1.2

    That doesn’t look like tanking to me. That looks like the expected decline for a show airing in the 9pm-11pm timeslot with an extremely high rated lead-in.

    Again, I never said that the show was a hit, simply that it was an improvement over what NBC had for months in the timeslot and that it was prudent to see if it could hold its numbers.

    And you call me “foolish” for calling it correctly when all of the data suggested exactly what would happen?

    But you didn’t. You expected them to cancel it within a couple of days and that it would be a waste to air a second episode.

    You can’t seem to see the difference in the show actually doing worse the second week and your assumption that it would. You guessed correctly, so you think that you’re right in hindsight; but there was never any chance that NBC was going to cancel the show last week, so your expectation was ridiculous.

    body of proof is already low in 18-49 and it is stable in total viewers. i dont think a voice – boosted Grimm will affect body of proof at all.

  • Ultima

    @Alex
    If we assume that NBC intends to run 2 hours of The Voice on Tuesday night for the rest of the season that’s going to have a pretty big impact on the other networks

    Not really, it will only affect two hours of programming.

    They were already planning on airing three extra hours of The Voice for sweeps, so that’s nothing new. All that’s left is the final two Tuesdays of the season.

    My prediction is that they’ll either move the results show to 9pm with recaps at 8pm or just fill the 9pm with something else for those two weeks (e.g. repeats). Maybe the premiere of AGT moves up a week.

  • Oliver

    NBC execs really love Grimm, don’t they?

  • Ultima

    @Alex

    To clarify, obviously the extra hours of The Voice are going to have an effect on the other networks, I just don’t think that’s changed much by the scheduling change.

    The real question, will it be enough for NBC to finally top FOX in the ratings for a week? They’re going to lose again this week (despite the monster numbers for The Voice).
