Saturday Night Low-Rated Drama Showdown: 'Smash' Versus 'Vegas' - Poll

Smash's ratings keep falling on Saturday nights. Last week it  scored a paltry 0.4 adults 18-49 rating, behind game show Bet on Your BabyVegas has suffered since moving to Fridays. Last week it earned a 0.8 adults 18-49 rating, and was beaten by a repeat of Kitchen Nightmares.  Last night it suffered the indignity of being bumped to Saturday at 8PM so CBS could air a news special. (The network decided to keep the reruns it had scheduled, though everything ended up getting preempted and shuffled in most markets.) So tonight we get a unique battle: Smash versus Vegas. Arguably, Vegas has been doing better, but how many people even know it's airing tonight? There's no question both shows are going to do badly, but which show is going to do worse? Make your prediction.

Vegas will easily beat Smash but it doesn’t matter because both shows will be cancelled in May.

  • John A

    Vegas .6 Smash .4.

    Vegas beats Smash.

I think it’s interesting that Saturday is used as the dumping off ground for all four networks.

Whenever The Ten Commandments airs, the ratings usually average between 6 to 7 million viewers (higher ratings then some of the ABC shows seem to be getting now it appears on higher profile nights).

Perhaps, CBS could showcase a special episode of NCIS.. to see how the ratings would be on that night. I think if the networks marketed shows that people might actually watch.. then I think Saturday wouldn’t be such a wasteland.

I wish you guys wouldn’t keep dumping on Smash for its ratings on Saturday. It’s getting no TV promotion anymore and NBC has now changed its timeslot from 9 to 8 twice with little notice and obviously no TV promotion about it. What does anyone expect with that happening?

Most Boring Battle ever ! :D

  • Oliver

Bet On Your Baby will win.

It has people betting on their babies. Smash and Vegas can’t compete with that kind of drama.

  • Joseph

“Vegas” may win the hour among broadcast networks, but in most major markets, local sports (baseball, hockey, or NBA playoffs) will dominate the local ratings numbers tonight (April 20th).

  • Nick

Didn’t even know Vegas was airing tonight. Doesn’t even list it in the TV guide app. It lists NCIS: LA, and The Mentalist.

Sounds like it’s time for Vegas to jump the shark. Kill off that Terra Nova guy and cast Randy Quaid as the long lost drunken sidekick brother.

Ripping on NBC is fun. Ripping on Smash is especially fun.

  • David Howell

Both will be beaten by Bet On Your Baby, let alone the UFC which might beat all three rival nets combined (now, if only Fox could make that the case on Wednesdays again instead…)

  • Patrick Ausgewahlt

3 major broadcast networks are carrying original programming on Saturdays at 7. (Fox kinda is too). This hasn’t happened in a while. If Fox was airing 2 episodes of Cops durings this it would be all 4 with original programming

  • Dan

@Nick – Vegas isn’t listed likely because it was a last minute scheduling change. In stead of preempting an Undercover Boss or Hawaii 5-0 repeat, CBS pushed Vegas to Saturday in favor of a news report regarding the suspect in the Boston Bombings.

LOL. This post is so funny. Laughing at all the shade at Vegas and Smash.

Who watches television on Saturday nights before 11:00 PM or 11:30 PM?

Vegas, and it’s extraordinary cast of actors, deserves MUCH better treatment by it’s network.

  • Richard Steven Hack

Who cares? I’ll be watching Doctor Who and Orphan Black on BBC America.

Orphan Black is a great new sci-fi show. Really like it so far. Great pace, good acting, cute lead who is occasionally nekkid. :-)

Vegas- not that it matters at this point.

Enjoy my SARAH JONES while it lasts

Vegas will definitely beat Smash, but I voted Who cares, but actually that audience may be split between UFC on Fox and the NBA playoff game between the Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets on ESPN.

Golden Girls used to be on Saturday nights so was Alice. Very highly rated shows. We had watch parties prior to partying all nite. Times change.
