ABC Marks its Most-Watched Sunday Evening in 7 Weeks

On its First Regular Original Airing in 1 Month, “Once Upon a Time”

Surges 62% Over its Lead-in to Take Second in the 8pm Hour in Adults 18-49

ABC’s “Hallmark Hall of Fame: Remember Sunday” is Up by Double Digits

Sunday Night (7:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC took second place on Sunday night in Total Viewers (6.6 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.5/4), while ranking No. 1 with Women 18-34.

  • ABC delivered its most-watched Sunday in 7 weeks – since 3/3/13.

“Once Upon a Time” (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

On its first regular original telecast in 1 month (since 3/24/13), ABC’s “Once Upon a Time” surged over its lead-in at 8:00 p.m. by 62% to earn second in the hour in Adults 18-49, returning on par with its last first-run episode (pacing within 1-tenth of a rating point – 2.1/6 vs. 2.2/6). The drama grew over the prior week’s recap show by 50% in Adults 18-49. “Once Upon a Time” won its hour with Women 18-34 and made ABC the No. 1 broadcaster in its slot among Teens 12-17.

“Hallmark Hall of Fame: Remember Sunday” (9:00-11:00 p.m.)

From 9:00-11:00 p.m. against original competition on CBS (“The Good Wife”/”The Mentalist”) and NBC (2-hour “Celebrity Apprentice”), ABC’s “Hallmark Hall of Fame: Remember Sunday” finished
No. 1 with Women 18-49
(1.9/5-tie), building from its first half-hour to its final half-hour.

  • “Remember Sunday” was up by double-digits over ABC’s last “Hallmark Hall of Fame” movie (“The Makeover” on 1/27/13) in Total Viewers (+25% – 6.5 million vs. 5.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (+27% – 1.4/4 vs. 1.1/3).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 48% currently, from 44% at the same point in 2011. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
