Update: The official press release announcing the final season is here.

Looks like Futurama won't be living on this planet anymore. Though Comedy Central resurrected the cancelled FOX animated comedy in 2010, it has decided not to renew Futurama, according to Inside TV . It's seventh (and now final) season will finish airing later this year.

The producers say that they are exploring options for a new home for the show, but there are no serious talks at this point.

    Boo!!
I thought it was the cleverest of all the animation shows.

Oh well, at least we got an additional 50+ episodes after it was first cancelled on Fox.
It was cancelled in the days when Fox was not into the animation domination scene and was continuously preempted by football.
It would most likely survive if it were part of the Sunday AD lineup today.

  • JJ

hope they will do some direct-to-DVD movie time to time in the future

  • DW

they are going to take all that money they spent on futurama and put it towards mad men. :)

  • k:Alex

No option for a short season (12 ep + 1 last) so the serie finally can have a serie final?

  • Kyle R

    @k.Alex

According to Wikipedia, the last episode was meant to function as a series finale.

  • Restless

    Exceptionally disappointing :(

  • Simon

Maybe FX’s new channel FXX will pick it up.

  • Oliver

    @k:Alex

The show has had 3 intended series finales so far, each written by Ken Keeler (who is, by far, the best Futurama writer). There will no doubt be a fourth in this season.

  • Oliver

(In the interest of balance, I’m not hugely fond of Ken Keeler’s Simpsons episodes. He has a wacky streak which suits Futurama far better)

  • Marc

If the new comedies scheudled for FOX fail again, then perhaps FOX will replace cleveland show with futurama. It may not hit crazy highs, but you know of fox it will come in at the average of the comedy blocks

  • James

Not unexpected. The show hasn’t been the same since its first cancellation on fox. The ‘intelligent’ writing is really missing in the show these days.

  • TV Viewer

Futurama won the Emmy for Best Animated Series; 2010 – 2011.

Many thanks to the producers for the direct-to-video DVDS and to Comedy Central for giving it a few more years of new television episodes.

Hopefully this will not be the end of the series that has survived long after Fox first cancelled it. If they get any new ideas for the series maybe they can make some more direct-to-video DVDs.

TV movies every couple years would be a great idea.

  • dddddddddd

Cancelled two times already and they’re considering finding a new home for it?

Get a clue. No one cares about this show. Just let it die already!

  • TV Viewer

Futurama also won the Emmy for Best Animated Series: 2001 – 2002.

Emmys without good 18 – 49 demo ratings equals cancellation most of the time.

I was a big futurama fan but i was never interested in comedy central episodes. They just sucked. Family guy’s resurrection is the most successful resurrection lo..

  • Sporteric11

Thanksto Comedy Central for resurecting it in the first place. Maybe they can produce a few more direct to dvd movies. My question is where is Fry and the Professor in the picture above ? Family Guy is still running but Fox is pulling the plug on the Cleveland Show.

  • Ellen

Nooo I would record all the episodes and watch them over and over again why Comedy Central why

  • LeighLee

Wow, I didn’t even know this show still came on. I thought the airing episodes were reruns.

  • OSUBuckeye4

As others have said, it was 52 additional episodes that fans like myself never thought we would get.

The show had a great run, but all shows eventually end. Now is as good a time as any for Futurama I suppose.
