There's no suspense left in the remaining CBS drama renewal or cancellation decisions, so all that's left for the Cancellation Bear in these weekly posts is getting some headlines in place that will get some search engine love once frantic fans start searching for their previously canceled shows. Vegas is certain to be canceled. Of course. There still may be those out there believing otherwise. If so, please seek out your local mental health professional.

Since discussing CBS' remaining, and except for RoE, 100% obvious moves, let's go for a discussion in the comments about which current drama will be moved to Friday next fall. CBS is certain to keep Blue Bloods on Friday, and almost certain to premiere a new drama there, but there's no way they put two new dramas there in the Fall, so a current drama's gotta move.

The bear has no way of predicting accurately based on the limited history he has to work with, but I'm sure everyone has their own theories. Have at it!

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

** The Renew/Cancel Index does not attempt to predict shows ending because the cast or production company chooses to end them. These shows have the ratings for renewal, but rumored cast/production company moves may end the shows.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

What drama moves to Friday ? Probably Hawaii Five-0 or The Good Wife. CSI is still #1 10PM Show and Elementary is too young.

  • David

I’d like to say The Mentalist for a final season…but annoyingly I don’t see that happening. Probably Hawaii Five-0 or The Good Wife although CSI is always a possibility…the shows quite overrated and I’m not seeing spectacular ratings from its Wednesday 10pm slot to justify staying there.

  • Ivan

Move Golden Boy to Friday. How if The Good Wife renewed with these poor numbers?

  • Ryan Schwartz

CBS has no reason to move THE MENTALIST or GOOD WIFE. There’s a good chance neither will return after May 2014 in the first place. HAWAII FIVE-O moves to Fridays at 9. It’s not doing great on Mondays, and after four seasons, it’s probably time to launch something new, such as BEVERLY HILLS COP.

  • Barbie

The Mentalist. Hawaii Five-0 is most likely to go to Sunday. It doesn’t have the Friday profile. It’s too actiony.

  • Daniel

    Hawaii Five-0

  • Matthew Chapman

After Last Night’s rating (1.4), i think you can safely say that Rules of Engagement will go down to certain cancellation in next week’s update

  • Barbie

WAIT. I’m assuming they’re canceling CSI:NY. But I won’t call it till it’s official. I think CBS can still pull a CBS and have it stay.

  • Just Desserts

The Good Wife goes to Friday, obviously, just so they can justify on continuing to make new seasons.

    Buh bye Rules…, though. :(

  • Ivan

The Mentalist and The Good wife were renewed already. I wanted to type: How comes, The Good Wife is renewed with such ratings? And Golden Boy is in danger.

  • James

They’ll probably put CSI in the slot vacated by it’s spin-off on a Friday.

CSI and H50 aren’t long for this world anyway (can’t see more than 2 or 3 seasons for both) so wouldn’t be surprised to see them both moved to Friday in order to give new shows a chance to air in better slots (they’ve not had much luck premiering new shows on a Friday).

  • AppleStinx

The bear in the picture looks depressed. The sensitive animal lover in me is feeling sorry. Give it a show to eat – NOW!

  • Dan S

I see Beverly Hills Cop replacing H50 on Mon & will replace NY on Fri. I entertained the idea of CSI going to Fri but realized it’s better to leave it on Wed for another season.

  • Wright

Why hasn’t CM been renewed yet? It’s a good show.

  • JJF

I think it will depend on what new shows they pick up. If they pick up Intelligence, it’ll likely be paired with POI and Elementary will move. (either Sunday or Friday depending on what scheduling shenanigans they do) If they picked up BHC, they’ll probably move H50 to Fridays. If they pick up something that can work with CM, they’ll probably move CSI. They might even move 2 shows to Friday. I could see an H50/CSI/BB lineup or an H50/Elementary/BB lineup. But who knows. CBS is very predictable but there’s often a wildcard decision in there.

  • Holly

    @Wright,

Why hasn’t CM been renewed yet?

Contract negotiations. It will be renewed before upfronts.

  • Tom

I’ve got Good Wife and The Mentalist starting the year off on Friday on spackle duty.

The question then is what is slotted for Sundays. Elementary into H50 seems the most likely answer, but CBS might want to break up the NCIS block and move NCIS:LA to Sunday, followed by H50.

  • Dan

My guess is CBS will move Hawaii 5-0 to Sundays, The Mentalist to Fridays and leave The Good Wife so

    Sunday
    8:00 The Amazing Race
    9:00 The Good Wife
    10:00 Hawaii 5-0

    Monday
8:00 How I Met Your Mother
    8:30 Mom
    9:00 2 Broke Girls
    9:30 Mike & Molly
    10:00 Elementary

    Tuesday
    8:00 NCIS
    9:00 NCIS RED
    10:00 NCIS LA

    Wednesday
    8:00 Survivor
    9:00 Criminal Minds
    10:00 New Drama

    Thursday
    8:00 The Big Bang Theory
    8:30 New Comedy
9:00 Two and a Half Men
    9:30 New Comedy
    10:00 Person of Interest

    Friday
    8:00 CSI
    9:00 The Mentalist
    10:00 Blue Bloods

Its good to move CSI to fridays so that CBS can launch a new drama Wed at 10. Is there any chance that Good Wife may air at midseason? Maybe Amazing Race will only air 1 cycle in favor of a new drama? If comedy expansion is necessary will that mean fewer new dramas?

1 thing is certain, something major will happen to next seasons schedule and CSI NY, Golden Boy, Vegas and Rules of Engagement will all be cancelled.

  • Carmen

I think that CBS’s recent failed experience with trying to launch a new show (i.e. A Gifted Man)will give them a lot of pause about trying it again so soon.
It would seem to be among the following (candidates):

    1) CSI NY: Most likely not but I think it remains a good match with BB for Friday and would do at least as well as either The Mentalist, H50, or, especially, The Good Wife.

    2) The Good Wife: The serialized nature of this show makes it a poor fit for Friday. People will grow tired of DVD/Demand and it will sink like the Titanic on Friday

    3) Hawaii 50: Could Work, but I think is a year too early. Also, may be a little heavy on the serialization

    4) The Mentalist: Why, it is in the same boat as CSI NY. That is, it is a show on the decline. If you’re going to go with a declining show, why not stay with CSI NY. At least you have a good idea of what it can do.

    5) Elementary: Way to soon

    6) The original CSI: I think it will go full circle back to Friday some day, but that day is not next season. Perhaps 2014-2015, but most likely it will go to Friday to retire 2 seasons from now.

    7) Unforgettable: A whole lot would have to shake down for this to even approach betting odds, but if it becomes a major surprise hit over the summer, then. . .who knows.
