The Cancellation Bear has had Nikita predicted as "likely to be renewed" all season. Once the show was renewed for a third season (the current one) a fourth season was required to satisfy the syndication gods. Now, with just two weeks before our final guesses, the change to "certain to be renewed" gives the bear an easy headline.

There have been various reports circulating that Nikita would get a short final season of less than 22 episodes. The bear both ignores such reports (as he does all rumors), and doesn't care. The bear doesn't try and predict how many episodes will be ordered.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the CW Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Syndication may justify renewal, but the ratings are still pathetic. Another season and the show will likely fall further than its current 0.3.

  • evesix

Some Nikita fans are completely deluding themselves. The show is doing so poorly it’s a miracle if they renew it in the first place. No doubt that 0,3 are horrible ratings and don’t justify a renewal, Friday night slot or not, so expect next season to be the last and shortened one. Just like GG this year, and have it ratings sink as low as this one did too, even lower, let’s say… 0,1.

  • Danielle

@RSH You keep whinning about Nikita haters and people having it out for the show……would that kinda be like what you do to BATB??!! Talk about people “who are trying to appear superior at predicting”!! You’re the king of them all. So PUT A SOCK in it! You’re no different! I like my show as much as you like yours. The difference between us is I don’t have a personal vendetta against a show and take every possible opportunity to bash it. You don’t like BATB? Then shut up and don’t watch it! I don’t like Nikita, but I keep my mouth shut out of respect for those who do! And even though I couldn’t care less if it got renewed, I know how disapointing it is to have your show cancelled and I don’t wish that on other fans. Are you THAT self centred that you can’t think about anyone else other than yourself?!

    oh yeah…..
Death to Nikita!!! (sorry to you other Nikita fans, no disrespect meant)

  • Claudia

LOL Danielle you went with everything girl, beastie Love here!

  • Charmed

I have a horrible feeling HOD will be cancelled after that 0.4. At least it only has 2 eps left, it can’t go much lower.

  • Charmed

@Danielle I don’t even like BATB, but I’m so happy someone stood up to that bully :D

  • Bizarro

I doubt Nikita will be on fridays at 8 if Beauty and The Beast gets renewed and moved to fridays. It will move to 9 because the CW gets better ratings and demo at 8. They are not wasting their 8 slot next year for a show that is merely being renewed for syndication and will probably end that year.

  • Ember

hahahah @RSH i love the wya you end each post or almost each post with “Death to BATB!” XD

  • Brandy

@Charmed, im a little worried too but it might adjust up,bounce back next week due to just a off night with preemtions/dead air in areas, its still tied with BATB for fourth highest rated show on cw and does well online, ondemand, in dvr and up against tough competion like The Voice &NCIS,and CW l still could cancel both CD,BATB and not be able to afford to cancel it and its closer to syndication so theyll cancel CD,BATB before it.I doubt one bad rating rating this late in the season will matter much. Now if keeps getting 0 4s for the next two episodes, that might change CWs mind about renewing it.Its also cheap to produce.

  • Richard Steven Hack

The best BATB can hope for is that it returns as a 13-episode mid-season show.

And that would be a mistake. The only way it wouldn’t be is if ALL the new pilots crash as hard as Cult did.

Danielle: “would that kinda be like what you do to BATB??!!”

Yes, it is! And you know why? Because “beasties” are the dumbest, most fanatical fans I’ve seen on this site since, well, Fringe… Even Chuck fans weren’t this stupid. :-) If I hadn’t been repeatedly attacked for saying the show sucks and more importantly is likely to be canceled, I would be a lot less rabid about stomping on it.

    You brought it on yourselves.

“The difference between us is I don’t have a personal vendetta against a show and take every possible opportunity to bash it.”

Maybe you don’t – but plenty of Nikita haters among the beasties did.

“You don’t like BATB? Then shut up and don’t watch it!”

Why? I have an enormous right to both watch it and hate it. I also have an enormous privilege on this site to comment on its poor ratings and likely cancellation.

“I don’t like Nikita, but I keep my mouth shut out of respect for those who do!”

No, you keep your mouth shut because you don’t care about Nikita. I started watching BATB because it was a genre show and I always hope genre shows do well. It didn’t because it was crap. So now I call it what it is.

“I know how disapointing it is to have your show cancelled and I don’t wish that on other fans.”

I don’t, either. Until moron fans start attacking me and making fantasy nonsense about the show’s ratings. Then all bets are off.

“Are you THAT self centred that you can’t think about anyone else other than yourself?!”

    Yes, I am. :-)

    Death to BATB!

  • Bliss

    @ HT

I think that is possible outcome if they indeed pair because the older shows will probably be paired with new shows. But I think that with your pairings this might be reality.

    Monday:

    The 100 (22 ep)

    Supernatural (24 ep)

    Tuesday:

    Heart of Dixie (22 ep)

    Selection (15 ep) / Oxygen (15 ep)

    Wednesday:

    Arrow (24 ep)

    Tomorrow People (22 ep)

    Thursday:

    The Vampire Diaries (24 ep)

    The Originals (24 ep)

    Friday:

    Nikita

    Beauty and the Beast

The reason I put the 100 with supernatural is because they seem like a possible better match. Supernatural has always been at the later time so I doubt it would change and the 100 seems to less likely be an origin story.

The reason I put HOD and the Selection together is because they are soaps essentially. The Selection is being filmed in Europe and as a result is going to be more expensive, so its probably going to have a half season. I put Oxygen as the midseason show because it also is a soap and it also doesn’t hurt that it has buzz.

The reason I put Arrow and Tomorrow People together is because they both appear to be origin stories and as a result that would make more logical sense.

  • Bliss

    I meant to say HV

  • Lisa

If I could… I would cancel Beauty and the Beast, Carrie Diaries, and Nikita (though I expect Nikita and possibly one of the others to come back, which is pathetic). The numbers for all of them really stink. That leaves just four returning scripted shows, but the CW’s house needs cleaning very badly.

  • Restless

Richard seriously this is just getting sadder and sadder. Are you even thinking about what you type? Stop stereotyping and blaming an entire group of people because you claim you got your feelings hurt by a couple.

    You should already know better.
Having a problem with specific people and choosing to generalize and take it out on an entire group is wrong.

No matter what reasons you give for it, your attacks on BATB fans are ridiculous. I really wish you and everyone else had the sense to stop calling each other names and picking fights. I can’t be the only one sick of the trolling.

  • Adrian

I normally agree with Richard but I disagree with 13 episodes renewal for BATB. It’s either a full season of 22 episodes or cancellation.

I doubt even the CW is so stupid to waste money on a short season for a show that’s going only into its second year. Renewal for a full season seems almost certain at this point unless somehow the CW picks 5 new shows for the fall.

On the Nikita subject, nothing the CW does with it will surprise me. They will make the decision that gives them the most money, simple as that.

  • Dave

    My schedule:

    The 100
    Supernatural

    Oxygen
    Top Model

    Arrow
    The Tomorrow People

    The Vampire Diaries
    The Originals

    NIKITA
    Beauty and the Beast

  • JacobYates

I don’t expect anyone that thinks Nikita will only get 13 episodes to be around to post comments when it ends up getting a 22 episode order.

  • Hi

Please, stop praising Oxygen! I can’t with a show about aliens!

  • JacobYates

    @Dave
Agree with your schedule except for the fact that you missed Hart of Dixie.
