The series is executive produced by Kevin Murphy (Desperate HousewivesCapricaHellcats), who also serves as showrunner, Michael Taylor (Battlestar Galactica) and Rockne O’Bannon (Farscape).  Scott Stewart (LegionPriest) directed the pilot; Michael Nankin serves as supervising producer/director on the series.  Defiance is produced by Universal Cable Productions.

I wonder what levels of viewership need to be maintained in order for this show to stay on the air. They’ve invested a lot of money and reputation in it.

  • rob60990

    new hit? good one SYFY!

  • alexjones

    just renew it already syfy.

  • Connman

The video gaming side of this will also weigh heavy in any future for this one.

  • JacobYates

Exactly how many shows do you hate on for no reason? How is it not a hit? Most SyFy shows pull .6-.7 in the demo. If it stays stable at .7-.8 then how is it not a hit?

  • coolioni

This is the closest show that is sci fi this network has put out lately.
But it still SUCKS in my book.
It is strange how the 18-49 skews a bit low for this show.
If it was not for the video game and all of the advertisement this show would barely pull in over 1 mil in viewers just like all the rest of their sucky line-up.

I am looking forward to seeing the rest of season 4 of warehouse 13 and definitely season 2 of continuum!

  • The End

You’re right. EVERYTHING scripted is down on the network. Gone are the days we’re saying shows hitting over 2 million again and getting a decent demo alongside it. Defiance is beating EVERYTHING scripted on the network at the moment.

  • The End

    *we’re seeing

Fixed typo. Tiredness, excuse that mistake.

  • Jacob

when does continuum come back? Defiance fans, Can someone explain to me why the St Louis arch is above ground and the rest of the city is in a cave? How are the game sales?

  • JacobYates

The earth only trapped the buildings in the downtown area when it was terraformed. The arch has some spacing between it and the buildings so it stayed above ground.

Continuum will be back on June 7 in the US.

  • coolioni

Continuum starts season 2 in the USA on Friday June 7

It starts in Canada about a month earlier unfortunately.

This difference will lower the ratings for the show on SYFY since it is not airing simultaneously.

  • JacobYates

    @The End
Thank you! You’re right on every level. Last year, SyFy averaged a .539 in the demo. That’s pathetic on almost any other network, broadcast or cable.

  • coolioni

I’m sorry but continuum already started on April 21 2013 with season 2 in Canada.
I know what I will be watching in a little bit.

Syfy already filmed a 13 episode, one season order. I believe that Syfy will pick up Defiance for season 2 shortly. Defiance is unique in that it has a online video game attached to it. If Season 2 is picked up, than it allows for future potential for the game (updates, expansions, large user base) and increased profits for Syfy (and more CGI money for the show).

  • JacobYates

That wasn’t a rhetorical question, I want a number. How many shows do you harbor hatred for? 5? 10? 20?

Do you have a reason to hate some of the shows? Sure. But for shows like Defiance, what’s your reason to hate ?

That puts you in Check. Your move rob60990.

  • rob60990

The show aired 2 episodes. You dont call a show that aired that many episodes a hit.

Theres a difference between hating a show and being realistic FYI.

  • cimmer

The game got an initial 6 (for the reviewers)-7(for the users) out of 10 rating. The initial offering price of the game has dropped about 40%. There’s a lot of bugs in this version and a bland story and characters which is disappointing considering how much time they had to work on the game before it was released and the amount of money they spent on both it an the show. I think the game somewhat mirrors the show in that both are ‘fair’ but considering the money and time should have been much better. As with many Syfy offerings, IMHO, it’s like an acceptable imitation of the real thing. I sometimes think that’s what Syfy shoots for in it’s programming (and apparently it’s gaming partnerships), fair imitations of other people’s good or great ideas which as I’ve said before is rather ironic for a network who’s tagline is “Imagine Greater”.

  • Steve

Defiance is pretty disappointing so far. Seemed like it had so much potential, with a cool backstory and a decent budget, but the first 2 episodes have been pretty lame.

  • Jazz

I like Defiance. It’s not great but it’s not bad. It actually seems to make more sense than Revolution.

  • GingerAle

There is no way lol, this show is extremely dull and boring. Please syfy stop with this nonsense, the science fiction western makes me wish Earth was destroyed altogether. I would rather watch The Voice in this time slot or study or sleep or get out of the house for a bit before Bates Motel comes on.
