ABC's 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' Turns in its 2nd-Best Performance in its New Slot with Adults 18-49

During the week of April 15, 2013, ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” surged week to week by 19% in Total Viewers (2.802 million vs. 2.364 million), drawing its biggest overall audience in 3 months – since the week of 1/21/13. “JKL” also shot up by 22% in Adults 18-49 (962,000 vs. 791,000) to deliver its 2nd-best performance since moving to 11:35 p.m. (behind only its new time slot premiere week).

 

On average through its first 15 weeks at 11:35 p.m., ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” stands less than 100,000 Adult 18-49 viewers from NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” (928,000 vs. 1.022 million) In fact, “JKL” has eliminated nearly -80% of its young adult gap with “Leno” since the move to 11:35 p.m. (-78%), as more than 400,000 Adult 18-49 viewers stood between the two late-night programs during the same 15 weeks last year.

 

  • “JKL” outdelivers CBS’ “The Late Show with David Letterman” head to head at 11:35 p.m. by 7% in Adults 18-49 (928,000 vs. 868,000).

 

  • Among Adults 18-34, ABC’s “JKL” (327,000) is the No. 1 broadcast talk show in late-night, beating both NBC’s “Leno” (321,000) and CBS’ “Letterman” (278,000).

 

·         Fifteen weeks into its new 11:35 p.m. time slot, ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” is up over its performance through this point last year by 50% in Total Viewers (2.633 million vs. 1.759 million), by 41 in Adults 18-49 (928,000 vs. 658,000) and by 45% in Adults 18-34 (327,000 vs. 226,000), standing as the only late-night broadcast talk show to improve year over year in all three Nielsen measures.

    So ABC spin masters are at their fine form here. They will only put out a press release now when competitors are in repeats as that is the only thing he can brag about literally anything. Big force in late night indeed LOL

    Just like CBS, ABC shouldn’t even try to spin their late night to their favor. Let it go.

    As we’ve seen in the 2 previous late night wars, NBC likes making deals taking place in the future and then trying to weasel out of them. While I doubt this happens this time around, these numbers are extremely good ones for Leno and a shot against the “younger” generation.
