Considering all the pre-emptions, I expected much much worse. I was expecting at lead a 300,000 decline for GH plus a big fall in W18-49 but it held ok being an extremely boring week.

  • Scott_N_ATL

Yep…GH punched it again holding onto #2…NICE!

  • DenverDean

With huge preemptions on several days – last week not a good judge. (Still impressive with year over year gains by B&B and GH.)

  • Bex

Surprised anyone watched soaps last week considering all the interruptions with the horrible Boston tragedy.

  • Mike

Good to see pluses for B&B in total viewers and Days in 18-34. At least some rises during a bad week.

Days worse day was on Wednesday. That was the day of the big proposal and Scott and Sweeney live tweeting. Either preemptions hurt them or no one was interested. Days would have done okay without that low 1.7 and low viewer number.

It hurts too that they promoted that day more than usual for Days. Well at least they did the live tweeting part.

Considering B&B had an upswing, and DAYS lost only a few, I’m not sure Y&R’s and GH’s rather large losses are due to the pre-emptions or not. I can’t speak for GH, but Y&R certainly isn’t “must see TV” IMO.

  • Reebs

DAYS was up in W18-34. I’m curious which story lines are working/not working for that demo. I know my pick coughWilSoncough.

    Women 18-34 Viewers
    1. GH 215,000 (-14,000/+73,000)
    2. DAYS 211,000 (+34,000/+64,000)
    3. Y&R 210,000 (-27,000/+7,000)
    4. B&B 168,000 (-10,000/-2,000)

  • Lyntex

Oh well. yes, pre-emptions had some impact, but Y&R is lazy writing filled with newbies right now. And the prized demo is not impressed. Sweeps are starting so hopefully they can pull it together – quite a hill to climb though.

  • Derrick

All soaps are NOT doing well, NOT just Y&R!
Boston is the reason soaps are down!!!!

  • David

Glad to see the drops were not as much as expected and nice to see GH still doing well over last years numbers. I know they noted preemptions nationally on Monday and Friday but locally here in the Boston market and I know in others areas there were additional preemptions.

Thankfully still not a horrible week. There were more preemptions this week in Boston so will be interested if there are more drops next week.

  • PatF

GH lost the most viewers percentage wise over the previous week…but all in all with the bombing coverage it was to be expected.

  • David

GH was stll up huge over the previous year however. B&B and Days were also up from one year ago. Y&R down a bit from a year ago however.

  • diana

GH has lost its momentum as far as I’m concerned .. from the high of the Nurse’s Ball to the intriguing possibilities of Luke&Laura trapped on Cassadine island and the weather machine .. to now .. ugh, Carlivati knows how to set up a story, but he doesn’t know how to follow through. I’m bored with Lulu (although she&Milo make a cute match), Ellie, Patrick, Sabrina .. it would be easier to say what I’m still interested in. Right now? Nothing, really. Hoping for May Sweeps.

  • Sean

    GO GH! #1 in 18-34 & #2 in 18-49 ! GH IS ROCKING!

I started Watching Days again a few weeks ago. I was a huge fan of Days back in the early/mid 90s to 2000s and since 2005 I would just try to keep up by reading about what’s going on.

As a fan tuning back into Days, I must say 2 weeks ago this show was a bore. I liked Chloe back when I used to watch it, but I was happy to see the writers wrap up the whole chloe/Daniel/Jennifer storyline. It was getting annoying.

I can’t stand Nick and enjoy Sami trying to get Stefanos help through EJ to help will and the custody issue. Kristin and Brady are ok, I like the scenes between her and John. Abigail is interesting. Rafe and Kate are a surprise. I like the chemistry between Sami and Rafe but don’t know their full history outside of being married. Nicole, Eric, and Vargas aren’t boring but not my fave storyline either.

I hope Days of Our Lives ticks up in demo and viewers for May sweeps, as well as the rest of the Soap Operas.. I don’t want to see any of them cancelled. W

With Chloe out of the way and the direction of current storylines it seems to be getting more interesting, I’m glad I stuck with it..

Does anyone Know if Sami/Kate/Nicole are still enemies? I like the feuds between those characters from years ago.

we where preemptied several times on Gh last week.I would imagine Days and B&B was to.

  • James

    Decent considering the preemption’s.

  • TV Gord

I don’t know about the others, but GH was only preempted one day, so I think “all the preemptions” is a bit of an excuse.

  • David

@TV Gord while there may have only been national preemptions many regions preempted to do their own coverage of what was going on. Here in Boston we didn’t have GH on its normal channel all week last week. I heard this was the case in many markets who opted for news coverage not only preemptiong GH but also NBC affiliates preempting Days and CBS affiliates preempting its soaps.

Regadless GH was not the only show to drop this week all the shows dropped from last week. GH still had the highest gains from one year ago in total viewers and 18-49

  • TV Gord

@David, I know that, but most of the country went back to regular programming until something pivotal happened. If anything, I would think regular daytime shows would be higher rated, considering all of the additional eyes that were drawn to the TV. I also question that “many affiliates” had preemptions that went beyond the network coverage.
