So last year on the first night of sweeps, BBT edged out Idol 4.1 to 4.0 and 2 years ago the #s were as follows

    The Big Bang Theory
    – 10.713 million viewers
    – 6.4/11 HH
    – 3.3/10 A18-49

    American Idol
    – 19.597 million viewers
    – 11.5/19 HH
    – 5.7/17 A18-49

That’s just staggering growth for BBT and drop for Idol

Yes but bear in mind PoI was up against NFL, which dominates the male audience whereas Grey’s Anatomy is female skewing and still dropped. Scandal even gained viewers from it. So please could you just stop continuously bashing PoI to prop up Grey’s as it only makes people dislike Grey’s (see Revenge vs Scandal)

Ah please no talk of HEROES. That still is a real sore spot for me. I wish they gave the show one chance to just get back to the season 1 and some of season 2 greatness and give it a proper ending. :(

Again, clearly not my point. All I said was that the average dropped to a 2.9 due to this episode.

Petar is one of a kind. He’s a really, really big fan of the show, so sometimes things he said is annoying.

Holy cow what happened to Hannibal…. I think NBC F that one up, when they decided to cancel an episode.

  • Noel

CBS basically did lower than usual in most of its show and thats because of its eternal breaks. But wow Hannibal is pretty much doomed, people stopped liking the show. Elementary adjusted up in total viewers reaching 10 million so thats fine.

Greys anatomy has had 25.000.000 million viewers and 10.0 demos in its prime, POI is never going to be that popular. although i watch both shows , greys anatomy will always be my favourite show.

I think last night’s episode of The Big Bang Theory is what Jim Parsons should submit for the Emmy’s this year.

  • Ultima

That has nothing to do with my point. Petar Ivanov is always going on and on about how Person of Interest is the only drama up versus last year, but tonight, its average fell to a 2.9, making it flat with last year.

I’m pretty sure there’s a couple of cable dramas way up year-to-year as well (e.g. The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones).

In any case, I tried to point out to him months ago that Person of Interest would probably end up flat year-to-year, but he was having none of it. Seems odd, because being flat is still really good – when was the last time CBS had a drama that was up in its second season?

As I just mentioned over in the CW renewal thread, what interests me is what The Originals will do for ratings next season given that TVD is around 1.0-1.2.

My guess is The Originals will debut at TVD’s current ratings or slightly higher. But given that it’s a spinoff I suspect it will drop to a .8 season average before the end of its first season.

That’s not much better than TSC was doing. And given the argument that TSC was canceled due to being expensive, I can imagine The Originals also being expensive given the New Orleans location which will demand a lot of on location shots like we saw in the pilot.

So does TVD have more than one season left in it given the current .9-1.0 ratings?

  • JC

    LOL @ haters of…

    …any show.

In the era of DVRs I dont have to pick one over the other so it is absolutely possible to be a Scanda fan an Elementary Fan and a Hannibal fan all at the same time.

  • carl

Both NCIS and Scandal got a 2.8 this week.

  • Mon

OK I got too excited. Maybe there is an episode this season yet to air that might top his performance last night. But he’s incredible anyway. The ratings are great, up 0.4 vs last year against NFL Draft.

  • Ultima

CBS basically did lower than usual in most of its show and thats because of its eternal breaks

    Nonsense. Apply Occam’s Razor.

What is more likely – that the continual breaks, which have not had any effect on the ratings thus far, caused a huge drop the exact same week as last season or that the NFL draft took a chunk out of The Big Bang Theory’s audience and that brought down the rest of the night?

Scandal continues to be a HIT!

  • thesnowleopard

Wait…did Supernatural equal TVD in demo and beat it in audience with original episodes? I think they just rented some Zamboni machines for the Lake of Fire.

  • MichaelChickless

    Come on, POI.

  • David

Yes sorry I get that, just the way you worded it made it seem that way :)
