    Please quit comparing Grey’s Anatomy and Person of Interest
    Grey’s is very female skewing. Person of Interest is very male skewing.
    There are different advertisers interested in both.
    It’s like if they aired Pretty Little Liars and Tosh.0 at the same time. I think there would be 1% viewership overlap max.

  • Michael

    I can’t believe Scandal tied with IDOL!!!!! It’s time that Kerry Washington gets recognition at the Emmy’s! She’s phenomenal.

  • Petar Ivanov

    So these two haters Melissa and Rob again make POI vs Greys war. I guess they are new Max now.

  • Cass

    @Richard Steven Hack
    That’s not much better than TSC was doing. And given the argument that TSC was canceled due to being expensive, I can imagine The Originals also being expensive given the New Orleans location which will demand a lot of on location shots like we saw in the pilot.

    The Originals will shoot in Atlanta alongside TVD. It’s way cheaper than on site shooting in New Orleans and conducive to frequent crossovers if they felt like it. If anything has a chance of retaining TVD’s 1.0+ over the next year, it’s TO. I wouldn’t be surprised if it became an Arrow/Supernatural situation where the two ratings are pretty similar.

  • Andrew Dias

    @Petar

    Melissa only stated that, now, POI is scoring the same average than last season. No longer the only sophomore drama that improved it’s ratings, right?

  • Michael

    Alright Gladiators! That’s how it is done :-)

  • LANDO’S SON

    Hmm Person of Interest was down a little,hopefully things will pick up closer to the season finale.

  • BigFlop

    only three shows work for “Shonda Rhimes Network” SRN (former abc), MF, Greys and Scandal. Congratulations on being the 4th tv network in ratings. :D

  • Richard Steven Hack

    Chrisss: I think the CW will be happy with a .8 season average for The Originals as long as it doesn’t drop too badly in the spring. Nothing they’ve put in that slot has done much better nor is likely to remain stable there other than The Originals.

    I’m just saying I think they were too hasty in canceling TSC given the state of the network THIS season.

    And I think renewing BATB shows that they aren’t too bright still.

    Also I see in The Originals PR spin that the show is STILL being targeted at W18-34 – proving that Pedowitz is as dumb as Dawn Ostroff. There’s no way The Originals is going to do better with women than men as the whole premise of the show is the head butting between Klaus and Marcel. There’s nothing romantic in that. I doubt the relationship between Klaus and Hailey is going to be all that romantic either. I don’t see The Originals as some TVD high-school stuff – it’s going to be more violent – given Klaus nature – and more adult. That’s unlikely to skew female.

  • JONNYSBRO

    I think ABC should announce next season of Grey’s is the final season. Move Scandel to 9pm on Thursday’s in Grey’s slot. I think 10 seasons of Grey is a good number to call it a day. Its unlikely Ellen Pompeo, Patrick, and Sandra Oh will stay past season 10. So just end it while we have the original cast and Shonda has known the ending from day one.

  • Michael

    Good riddance originals! Thank goodness, maybe TVD can go back to the flawless show it once was back in season 1 and 2!

    @Richard Steven Hack

    SPOILER FOR TVD — AVERT YOUR EYES IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN LAST NIGHT’S EPISODE

    Given that The Originals decided to take page out of Twilight and woobify Klaus even further by making him a daddy, I’m not thinking it’s going to skew terribly male. Also, it has no sense of humor about itself unlike TVD. I get that they’re trying to make this like Angel, bigger city, darker characters, more violent, etc. But Klaus stomping around throwing diva fits blows “more adult” out of the water.

    I think it’ll probably still skew female, just by nature of TVD’s general audience, but you may be right that there will be fewer tweens who find Elijah/Klaus/Rebekah dreamy compared to the Salvatores.

  • Petar Ivanov

    @In any case, I tried to point out to him months ago that Person of Interest would probably end up flat year-to-year, but he was having none of it. Seems odd, because being flat is still really good

    Still will be up year to year. May be not tenth but up. And yes when all other shows drop like rock its pretty impressive. When you add that PoI is #1 drama on rerun is even more impressive.

    @Petar is one of a kind. He’s a really, really big fan of the show
    But i talk for MY show not for their show.

  • Amy

    @ RSH I don’t understand why you think The Originals will be darker than TVD. Klaus wasn’t much of a villain and they had him fall for Caroline.

  • Richard Steven Hack

    Cass: “The Originals will shoot in Atlanta alongside TVD. It’s way cheaper than on site shooting in New Orleans and conducive to frequent crossovers if they felt like it.”

    That makes sense as I indicated above. However it’s still going to be AS expensive as TVD when it comes to location shots even if they share the same studios. And it’s likely to be as expensive as TSC was.

    I was just comparing the alleged reasons for TSC’s demise vs the cost of TVD. I still can’t see TSC being THAT much more expensive that the ratings demanded its cancellation, especially given the poor ratings for everything this season. And if TO is as expensive as TSC was, then a .8 average – which is what TO is likely to do by end of season one – just shows how far the network has fallen.

    “If anything has a chance of retaining TVD’s 1.0+ over the next year, it’s TO. I wouldn’t be surprised if it became an Arrow/Supernatural situation where the two ratings are pretty similar.”

    Oh, I agree. I think TO will do slightly less well than TVD due to its being a spinoff, but there is always the chance it will actually do better than TVD since it’s new show, at least initially. I expect to debut at or higher than TVD. The question is will it retain that over the season and at the end of its season one run.

  • Cass

    @Richard Steven Hack
    However it’s still going to be AS expensive as TVD when it comes to location shots even if they share the same studios. And it’s likely to be as expensive as TSC was.

    Luckily the actors will cost a lot less than TVD’s main three so all in all, it’ll clock in below TVD’s total budget. But I do see your point about TSC. I don’t think anyone believes TSC’s ratings outright mandated cancellation on the same network that’s kept Nikita for three seasons. There were likely other factors involved and the downward trend didn’t help it any.

    I don’t think the CW expected, although they should have, the way broadcast ratings have sunk so drastically. This year’s 0.6 may be equivalent to last year’s 0.8. What they’ve done essentially is renewed a cheaper version of TSC this year, with greater potential for rerun ratings given its procedural nature, and the much-vaunted additional revenue of international sales.

    Amy: Klaus wasn’t much of a villain? Have you counted how many people he’s killed and how he’s driven Tyler out of town and started the whole process that led to Elena being a vampire and so forth? The show has never had a villain as big as he is. All the previous seasons had various vampire haters who weren’t actually evil or werewolf conflicts or witch conflicts. Even the Hunters were just ruthless not actually evil. Klaus is just a really bad guy. :-)

    Yes, he’s fallen for Caroline – and I assume we’ll see her appear on The Originals on occasion. But he now has the problem of Hayley which will put a bit of crimp on that relationship. Not to mention that Caroline may have some care for Klaus but she really doesn’t love him, not compared to Tyler.

    But while they are clearly trying to redeem Klaus somewhat in TVD and I’m sure they will do that even more so in TO compared to Marcel, he’s still a very violent villain. That’s why his fans like him. As Elijah said, he always runs the opposite from doing the right thing.

    In many shows, that might prove to be a problem – having a villain as the lead. But it works for TVD a la Damon, especially since Damon really isn’t much of a villain any more if he ever was, despite his frequently violent behavior. Klaus, however, is much more a villain than Damon ever was. Damon was just an antagonist in season one, Klaus has been a villain for two seasons.

  • Jeff

    If the trend continues Scandal will become ABC’s #1 drama by the end of the season. That’s impressive!

  • Chris

    Damn. I like Hannibal, and now (once again) I must hate Nielsen households for ruining something I like.

    I mean, I knew it was a long shot at best: a Bryan Fuller show, heavily focused on characters and ongoing drama rather than episodic bad-guy-catching, emphasizing creepiness over gore? Since when has ANY of that appealed to Nielsen families? :(

    Now I’m reduced to hoping that NBC has some behind-the-scenes reason to ignore the Nielsen ratings. Overseas profits or an executive champion or maybe just not enough money to replace all their low-rated shows next season, I don’t care what the rationale is, as long as it gets at least another half-season of Hannibal instead of whatever godawful replacement they’re going to find for it. Which is, naturally, an even longer shot.

    @Bill / Robert
    Do you have male-female 18-49 for TBBT last night and the last new episode before it?Just curious NFL Draft’s impact on its ratings.
