    WHO CARES?

  • Fred

    ABC will milk this story for all its worth.
    Watch them promote it on 20/20, ABC WORLD NEWS TONIGHT with Diane Sawyer and of course an intimate primetime special with Katie Couric or Robin Roberts.

  • The End

    @Ralph Hahn

    That’s a very ignorant response. Players worry about being stigmatised and essentially made fun of, if they come out. What this man has done is a brave thing, people should be free to express their sexuality in sport.

  • Ralph Hahn

    @The End: My comments (two words really) have nothing to do with anyone’s sexual preference. As Fred pointed out, this is just exploitation on the part of ABC News. Anytime these talk shows get a big ‘get’ of the moment, they go overboard promoting this. And, to put it on every ABC News program and platform, it pure exploitation = ratings = advertising revenue.

  • Michael

    I will never get the fascination with people “coming out.” It baffles me that this is still going on in 2013. People should live their lives the way they want to. You don’t need a press tour for it. I respect his “bravery”, though. I put that in quotes just because I don’t see it as a sign of bravery, he’s not some type of hero saving someone. Now that your liberated and free, live your life Jason Collins!

  • The End

    @Ralph Hahn

    To be fair. 2 words such as WHO CARES? can be taken in any context. I assumed ignorance, but if in the future you could at least write more than 2 words, like you’ve done, it’d be clearer what you mean lol

    @Michael

    I think it’s more a case of players not wanting to be known as THAT gay player, and just accepted for who they are, and the way they live their lives. The fact he’s the first guy to make such a step will naturally be exploited by news outlets but when stuff like this becomes more common it’l appear less and less.

    There are many definitions of the word brave, coming out in a sport where no one else has done so can be seen as brave, at least in my opinion.

    If you want me to stay out of your bedroom, then keep you damn bedroom out of my face! For F***’s sake. I’ve had enough of these attention-seekers! Get over yourselves!

  • Malamute Dad

    ABC news gives immediate coverage to this story on GMA and continues to ignore the Gosnell murder trial in Philadelphia. Are you proud of yourself George and ABC?

    Google it if you are not familiar with it.

  • JoeyDavid

    I wish all this bully awareness and coming out of the closet was around when I was in high school in the 90s.

  • Hugh

    That guys hot. I mean… ummm

  • Remote Patrolled

    @Jayzel

    Man – could you be any more ignorant.

    As a gay man am I complaining when 99.9% of the romances, love scenes, sex scenes I see on TV, movies and music videos are STRAIGHT.

    You obviously have no idea how important gay visibility is for gay kids growing up (and even those of us who are adults)

    Jason made a simple, clear statement and is now being interviewed about the story. Sorry if this shakes your narrow minded world view.

  • Jayzel

    I am proud he likes to suck c***. You are all narcissistic and it is tiring. NOBODY cares. Get over yourselves. You have deep psychological issues and normal people are tired of dealing with your childish complaints…

  • Remote Patrolled

    ‘Normal’ people. Go f*** yourself.

  • STLmelbo

    Thank you Jason and you too George.
    Forget all the haters.

  • The End

    @Remote Patrolled

    Personally I’m straight and believe in equality for any honest hard working person. People should be treated the same regardless of their sexual orientation. I just hope people don’t look down on him because he’s the first NBA player, if anything I would hope this becomes a domino effect and more and more people scared to express their sexuality tell the world.

    It’s a shame one or two people on here had to show their ignorance but hey, that’s just the way the world is at the moment, not everyone is like that. Take no offense of some of the haters.

  • The Beginning

    @Remote Patrolled

    if it weren’t for straight people, you wouldn’t exist…you never know your parents may have conceived you while watching those “disgusting” love films with straight people

    @The End Equality is a utopian myth. people aren’t equal and never will be
    As for treating people the same…no one has to accept a lifestyle choice..i can’t blame players for not wanting to be naked around an openly gay man in the locker room. if you say otherwise then there should be no problem with men using the women’s restroom or changing room..it’s the same idea..

  • Remote Patrolled

    @The Beginning

    Did I say straight love films were ‘disgusting’…? Trust me I’ve sat through all manner of sex scenes in TV shows and movies and it hasn’t bothered me at all. Yet show some straight people see a gay kiss and they freak out!

    Lifestyle ‘choice’ – oh man I had no idea some TBTN commentators were so ignorant. When did you ‘choose’ to be straight by the way?

    And do you think every straight woman fancies every guy? No? Well guess what – not every gay man fancies every man. And if we do like someone we don’t automatically turn into crazed rapists who have to jump them in the middle of a locker room. Don’t flatter yourself.

  • Hello and Goodbye

    People Care…Young boys and girls growing up in middle American thinking they are the only ones CARE! Kids, who think they can not be gay and an actor/play sports/run for office and so on CARE! It sucks that we have to “come out” to America. But until the day comes that we don’t have to, it’s going to keep happing. I am glad they are “milking it”. The more people who see and hear great storys like this the better it is for all of us who fight for basic rights. Straight people announce they are getting married or having a baby all the time. We all have to put up with that…so I am sure some click on the Internet or click on your remote is not going to end your life.
