Our Renew / Cancel Index predicts the network's decision on renewal or cancellation for scripted broadcast primetime shows by the end of the 2012-13 season in May, 2013. (includes results from December 31, 2012-  April 28, 2013):

There's no suspense left in the remaining CBS drama renewal or cancellation decisions, so all that's left for the cancellation bear in these weekly posts is getting some headlines in place that will get some search engine love once frantic fans start searching for their previously canceled shows. Golden Boy is certain to be canceled.

The good news is that final up or down (no toss ups!) guesses arrive next Tuesday, May 7! No more boring rehashing of the CBS obvious, the end is near!

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.
*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

** The Renew/Cancel Index does not attempt to predict shows ending because the cast or production company chooses to end them. These shows have the ratings for renewal, but rumored cast/production company moves may end the shows.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the CBS Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Please do not cancel Golden Boy

  • Bryan

Please cancel Golden Boy and Vegas!

  • Monica

After last night’s 2.2, NCIS LA is never moving away from NCIS. It would collapse on its own.

  • NE1

Guess there wasn’t enough golden highlights for Golden Boy. His hair is nice tho. Hoping Rules of Engagement gets renewed because it is consistently a good show, I can’t get enough of it on Netflix and in syndication. If CBS can’t renew just because it is full of sitcoms already maybe it can move somewhere else??

  • Debsafan

CBS keeps junk on TV like Blue Bloods and The Good Wife, but want give a good show like Golden Boy a chance. Try it on Friday night, I’d watch since Grimm is no longer on Friday.

  • Gis A. Bun

Still unsure about CSI: NY? Considering that it has done better than Vegas [on Fridays], better than Made In Jersey and just under renewed Blue Bloods, can’t see how it could get the axe [other than series costs].

“why would you cancel golden boy, it is so good? I guess cbs doesn’t care about the over 60s crowd”

Please CBS has more viewers over 60 (or at least over 49 than any other network.

Golden Boy doesn’t have a viewers under 49 problem it has a viewers period problem. Besides Vegas it has the least viewers of any CBS drama. It started with over 10million viewers and is now less than 8 million viewers.

Give me a break with that over 60 crap.

When (if?) Vegas gets cancelled I just want to know where Sarah ‘The Rack’ Jones is going!! WooHoo!!

  • Heather

PLEASE PLEASE don’t cancel Golden Boy. It is such an awesome show with so much potential to go so many places. My whole family has been hooked since episode 1. Please give it a chance and let it have another season!!!!!

  • W

CBS will likely cancel The Golden Boys. There is no way The Good Wife and The Mentalist will be reschedule to another night. These 2 shows will stay on Sunday night.

  • sally

please cancel golden gay boy,i hate the show

  • sally

I love csi ny and criminal minds on the border of being has the best police shows except for horrible golden boy

  • BretU20

@Debsafan there’s noooooo way Golden Boy is better than Blue Bloods, Blue Bloods is obviously better, because it averages 11 million a week and that little Golden Boy show loses usually about half of its lead in.

NBC Cancelled JAG after it’s first Season, CBS Picked it up and had a Great Show for 10 years to come,,,,I say Golden Boy could be that show now,,,don’t let this go, it’s good, Damn Good and can branch out in many ways,,,,,I believe in it so that I promise if you drop this show I will never watch your Station again,,Super Bowl,,,World Series,,NHL Playoffs,,,Nothing will bring me back, so,,,,what’s it going to be,,I’m attempting to do you a favor,,you have many shows that are NOT AS GOOD OR EVEN CLOSE,,SO,,WE’LL SEE,,,Don’t screw it up

  • Fake Me Out

Interesting H50 factoid, not that it matters as it’s already been renewed but what, if anything, does it foretell about future seasons … in the land downunder David Attenborough’s 60 Years In The Wild has bumped the 4 remaining H50 episodes off the schedule … unknown if/when/where they will eventually be aired … apparently H50 is not well received by the Aussies … wonder if that $5m per deal has an escape clause?

Sad, I really wanted to like the reboot and had hoped it’d have a good long run like the original … I have the episodes saved for possible future viewing but I gave up part way through last season as I was sick of seeing law enforcement officials continually break the law.

  • Leslie

pleaase do not cancell golden boy…one of the best new shows!!!

You’re too focused on Fridays instead of seeing the big picture. CBS has/will renew ten dramas for next season, they don’t have room on the schedule for any more. They’ll simply move a different drama to Friday to fill the hole.

  • DanOregon

It’s really too bad. Golden Boy finally realized that Chi McBride’s character was the center of the show and it’s gotten better each week. Characters with both good and bad characteristics (often in the same episode!), often the crime of the week even tied into the longer arc. It will be missed.

  • TheFrenchGuy

It will not be so difficult for NCIS: Red to be Renewed next season. I mean if it airs at 10PM a 2.0-2.2 is enough (Look at Elementary) and if it airs at 8 or 9 it should get a 2.5-2.6.
