The Cancellation Bear apologizes for once again putting Touch will be canceled into the head line yet again. He had no choice, it's the last week before final guesses and all of Fox's recent renewals left him no choice!

But the obvious ends next week, Tuesday, May 7, when all our final guesses will be in!

Note that for the time being (and perhaps forever) Fox is going with the PR smoke & mirrors that The Cleveland Show isn't canceled, but in fact will simply "have no further episodes produced". I'll play along for a week.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the Fox Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

Notes:

  • :oops: - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • :cry: :cry:- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  • :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    The key word is this headline. Next week is a new headline!

    “The key word is this headline. Next week is a new headline!”

    So cynical Max, next week’s headline is “Oddsmakers: Our Final Guesses For Fox Shows” ;)

  • JacobYates

    “No more episodes to be produced.” Whatever that means. Just announce it as cancelled already FOX!

  • Melanie

    Fox is so boring, I bet the bear can’t wait for hibernation — he just has those two last little snacks to chow down . . . . . no more episdoes –pfffftt.

  • TheFrenchGuy

    Don’t worry Touch will be Renewed lol :) seriously I think FOX should do this next season:

    TUESDAY
    8:00 – Raising Hope (24 episodes)
    8:30 – NEW COMEDY (13-22 episodes)

    I hope that a cable channel picks up touch ):

    I can’t believe Glee got renewed for 2 seasons when it should have been cancelled. I think they should bringe Fringe back so I have more to watch then just The Following, Bones and New Girl.

  • Ultima

    @Wright
    I can’t believe Glee got renewed for 2 seasons when it should have been cancelled.

    Why should Glee have been canceled? It performs above FOX’s scripted average amongst A18-49 and well above amongst A18-34.

  • tomko44

    Next week’s headline…. “Touch is Cancelled”… start working on the Photoshopped Bear with Keifer in its jaws!

  • Wright

    @Ultima

    Glee should have been cancelled because it should have never been made in the first place. I don’t understand the appeal. I watched one episode when Matt Bomer was on and it was completely horrible. Seriously who watches that garbage?

  • Max Vrany

    @Bill, more like “Oddsmakers: Our Final Guesses For Fox Shows (Yes, Touch is still Certain to be Canceled.)” :wink:

  • Dan

    @Bill – I honestly doubt FOX will even officially cancel The Cleveland Show in 2 weeks. It will of course be left off the schedule but back in 2003 Futurama never was officially cancelled. Just no more episodes produced at this time and that’s it.

    Touch obviously is dead.

  • Dan

    Oddsmakers: Our Final Guesses would be a laugh for FOX with only 1 show on the list. I don’t think Bill or Robert will have much of a disagreement

    Bill: I Think Touch will most certainly not come back
    Robert: While I believe that Touch will most definitely not return.

  • Dan S

    @ TheFrenchGuy, I like the idea of moving Glee to Fridays. In reality though it most likely will stay put on Thur for another season. 2 high profile pilots that’ll likely get picked up is Rake with Greg Kinnear & Gang Related. 1 of those shows will probably be a placeholder for The Following until next year.

  • Pavelsauce

    @Wright
    Umm, I do… I used to bash Glee (based on stuff I read on the Internet), but once I actually wacthed it, I thought it was a good show. What should have Fox shown instead? I swear, some people here can be so eager to “cancel” shows just because they hate them, and not because of ratings, the way it should be.

    @TheFrenchGuy
    I think that’s another great schedule. Kudos.

    Yeah, no real surprises in this headline. The only episode of Touch I actually bothered to watch was the season premiere. After I saw the ratings for that, I decided the show wasn’t worth my time.

  • Ultima

    @Wright
    Glee should have been cancelled because it should have never been made in the first place. I don’t understand the appeal.

    So you’re of the opinion that everyone should share your tastes in entertainment and that networks should make financial decisions based on what would provide the best viewing experience for you?

    :roll:

  • Wright

    @Pavelsauce
    I did try watching and was bored within the first five minutes. I was hoping that Fox would go with new programming. Any new show would be better than Glee.

    @Ultima
    Not so much my entertainment tastes. Just good quality TV.

  • Moses

    I’m of the opinion that the only thing wrong with Touch is the writer’s characterizations of Martin Bohm and Lucy Robbins as being nearly incapable of intelligent thought. The speech and actions of those characters over often defies even basic logic.

    With just two weeks to go until Fox upfronts, here is my prediciton. Your thoughts are invited as my thinking is still in flux on a couple time periods. One more prediciton next week.

    Monday:
    Bones
    Fall: Rake; Spring: The Following

    Tuesday:
    Raising Hope
    The Mindy Project
    New Girl
    Friends and Family

    Wednesday:
    Fall: X Factor; Spring: AI

    Thursday:
    Fall: X Factor; Spring: AI
    Fall: Glee; Spring: Goor/Schoor comedy(AKA Brooklyn 99) and Enlisted

    Friday:
    Kitchen Nightmares
    Fall: Gang Related or Human; Spring: Glee
    I think there is a slim possibility Kitchen Nightmares is held back for later in the season, but two new shows on a Friday seems unlikely.

    Saturday: Fox Sports/Cops/reruns of new series

    Sunday
    After NFL overun:
    Dads leads off night for the six week order and then the Animation Domination line-up with the Murder Police addition.

    The following shows are also ordered to be ready as fill-in since Fox had little to none of that this year: Assistants (in case Friends and Family bombs or Mindy falls apart), either Gang Related or Human whichever is not immediately scheduled and Sleepy Hollow.

  • Ultima

    “Quality TV” is a very subjective term. Glee is an Emmy-winning series that as recently as two years ago was the highest rated scripted show on TV.
