The Cancellation Bear apologizes for once again putting Touch will be canceled into the head line yet again. He had no choice, it's the last week before final guesses and all of Fox's recent renewals left him no choice!

But the obvious ends next week, Tuesday, May 7, when all our final guesses will be in!

Note that for the time being (and perhaps forever) Fox is going with the PR smoke & mirrors that The Cleveland Show isn't canceled, but in fact will simply "have no further episodes produced". I'll play along for a week.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the Fox Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

Notes:

  • :oops: - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • :cry: :cry:- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  • :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    @Cory

    Surely you mean you get paid for writing about the shows you watched? If you’re getting paid for just watching where do I apply for that job?

    Re Touch

    I honestly didn’t think Tim Kring (or should that be Kringe now?) could tank a show as fast as he tanked Heroes Season 2, I was wrong, I’m sorry. Touch was never the runaway hit that Heroes was, but seriously, this season has been a laughable compendium of incomplete storylines, ridiculous ideas, lack of ANY common sense by the main characters and a lead character who needs to work out more or perhaps less as every scene now has him talking as if he’s permanently winded.

    Kill it now and bring on 24 The Movie FFS.

    @Sarah

    But like you said, that’s just *your* opinion. Although I wasn’t too fond of what they did, I am very much looking forward to S9 and seeing how they resolve it all. And I know plenty of people who feel the same way.

    I can’t see the storyline having a drastic effect on the ratings. People are ALWAYS claiming that they’re done with the show after every finale, and the outrage after this finale is about the same we see every year. And as someone said, unless these people who are saying they’re going to stop watching are Nielsen families, they really don’t matter.

  • Phil

    Touch deserves a 3rd Season. Period.

    I have a question, FOX never haas a single programming at 10 pm, whis is that? I mean, even NBC has something in that schedule.

  • Sarah

    @Emma

    I’m glad you’re looking forward to next season. :) But, like I said, *for me* and for a lot of people I know, the only thing to look forward to is Pelant finally being killed. And that’s not even going to happen in the first couple episodes.

    And like also said before, I’m giving them until the winter break, which I think is very generous on my part, to fix their mistake (with B&B) and to kill him or I’m done. I know that probably doesn’t make me a true fan, but that storyline has become ridiculous and gone on way too long and needs to end. JMO, though.

    Intially, FOX limited the number of hours they programmed to avoid FCC regulations so they could continue to acquire additional stations and not have to seperate from their production company (this was before they expanded to seven nights a week)

    After that, the ability to air local news at 10pm was a big selling point as they were trying to get new (or better) affiliates.

    They do program in the 10pm hour from time to time though. It’s mostly sports or movies (back when they aired them) that run into the 10pm hour, although occasionally American Idol (or its lead-out) runs into the 10pm hour as well.

    I believe FOX College Football is the first regularly scheduled program in the 10pm hour since the early 90s (when they programming 10pm on Sundays).

  • Emma

    @Sarah

    Fair enough. I don’t know if you saw what Stephen Nathan had to say about the episode, but he certainly made it sound like the Pelant storyline would come to an end in the first half of next season.

  • Sarah

    @Emma

    If you’re talking about what he told EW this week then yes I did , and I agree that it sure sounds like it so I have hope. But you never know and I don’t trust HH & Co one iota. They’ve burned too many bridges with me.

  • Wrong

    @Ultima on Glee

    Well, of course it won an emmy. Hollywood is in full force pushing the gay agenda, so it makes sense they would put as much muscle as they could behind this show. That and it does its best to help Obama push his draconian legislation what with the ‘school shooting’ episode.

    Quality TV these days, for liberals, has come to mean anything that helps push their agenda of normalizing the abnormal and disarming everyone but the criminals.

  • Amy

    I love Touch, and even though the ratings are not there, I really think it deserves a 3rd season. The show is a little different than anything else that is currently on, and I like that.

  • craiguk

    @Wrong

    You’re Wrong?

  • NJ Viewer

    FOX needs to bring back Futurama.

  • Cory

    @craiguk

    I actually get paid to do something different entirely but I sit at a desk all day doing it so I watch all of the previous nights episodes while I’m doing my regular job. I never said I got paid to watch the shows, I just said I get to watch them while I’m at my job getting paid. ;-)
