Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

H5O was brutal last night – switched to Revolution – much better!

  • POIFanatic

Revolution might drop in the final ratings but I don’t care. The episode was fantastic! One of the best! Three shows I eagerly watch every week – GOT, POI and Revolution! Quality shows!

  • sally

can someone tell me who alias tyler is she was terrible, she whould fit in golden boy because the show being so bad.take golden gay boy off

  • Ultima

    @Mon
Thank goodness CBS is airing TBBT repeat on May 13 at 8:30 with HIMYM / 2BG finales and on May 20 at 9:00 with ROE / MM finales.

Cute scheduling gimmick, CBS! Right up there with the “special 9pm” NCIS repeats. Next thing you know we’ll be getting supersized episodes of The Big Bang Theory! ;)

  • Rida

Am i the only one thinking DWTS is doing its best to bring down Castle with it but (thankfully) Castle is refusing to budge? Castle certainly is a real asset to ABC.

  • Mon

One of the reasons why H50 had lower ratings because last week’s episode was bad! Boring to bits and pieces. I hoped for a better comeback episode but the show within a show concept sucks!

  • Taylor

This is slightly off topic, but is anyone who works for TV By The Numbers planning to create a ratings predictions post for tonight’s episode of Grimm?

  • s0303

weird oh sit tied its friday repeat…i watched about 3 minutes of it, pretty dumb show…

revolution is probably adjust down like usual…if it does, it will be below a 2.0…pretty sad…won’t be renewed for a season 3 if it’s not behind the voice next year…

  • Alan

90210′s episode was awesome yesterday, it deserved better numbers.

  • Shawn

Those are VERY STRONG numbers for The Following. Last nights episode was very intense and I really enjoyed it! Wow, what a cliffhanger too. I look forward to season 2 of the show!

  • r0ckmypants

@Michelle – It’s just you. Both Fox shows were up, as were all the CBS comedies except HIMYM, which was even with last week. Oh Sit was also even with its last original.

  • TheFrenchGuy

The Following returns in the fall or mid-season ?

  • bluejays

I agree that the show within a show idea sucks. Its never really worked on any show. I’ve always hated it when shows did it. Even the excellent ER did it once and even then it sucked.

I don’t think that explains HFO figures though. Unless people read the description and stayed away. A weak episode is more likely to impact on the following weeks numbers than the week it airs. As people have already watched by the time they realize its bad.

  • mando

I am more excited about Grimm’s ratings today. I think it could win Tuesday night!!!

  • JAA

And last night’s episode of Castle has been online since last week’s Monday, it leaked on iTunes Germany and France

  • RandyL

    5fingerofdeath should be banned.

  • John

Following is a show about two idiots toying with each other in mediocre and lame ways. I’m out.

  • r0ckmypants

@mando – I love Grimm, but it will never beat The Voice or NCIS.

  • s0303

@mando…you don’t seriously think grimm will do better than the voice??? it will be behind both of the ncis shows also…maybe even hells kitchen…

  • Tom

Thanks for posting that picture from “The Following”. It’s a nice spoiler for anyone like me who hasn’t seen the season finale yet.
