TV Ratings Wednesday: 'American Idol', 'CSI' 'Criminal Minds' & 'Survivor' Hit Lows, Soft Premiere for 'Family Tools', 'Nashville' Ties 'Chicago Fire'

Note: Adults 18-49 usage was down -4% from 8-10PM versus last week.

FOX was the number one network in adults 18-49  and with total viewers.

On FOX, American Idol earned a 2.8, down 15 percent from last week's 3.3 adults 18-49 rating, and an all time Wednesday low for the series.

On CBS, Survivor scored a series low 2.3 down 21 percent from last week's 2.9 adults 18-49 rating. Criminal Minds earned a series low 2.3 adults 18-49 rating down 21 percent from a 2.9 on April 10. CSI garnered a series low 1.8 adults 18-49 rating down 25 percent from a 2.4 on April 10.

On ABC, The Middle scored a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating even with its performance on April 10. The premiere of Family Tools earned a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating down 12 percent from a 1.7 for the Suburgatory finale and down 26 percent from a 1.9 for the timeslot premiere of The Neighbors on October 3, 2012. It was ABC’s lowest rated comedy debut ever. Modern Family garnered a 3.5 adults 18-49 rating, down 8 percemt from a 3.8 on April 10. Your predictions were too optimistic. How To Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life) notched a 2.2 up 47 percent from last week's 1.5 adults 18-49 rating. Nashville scored a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating down 6 percent from a 1.8 on April 10. Your predictions were accurate.

On NBC, The Voice clip show garnered a 1.6 up 19 percent from Dateline’s 1.3 adults 18-49 rating in the time period last week. Law And Order: SVU earned a 1.5 down 21 percent from last week's 1.9 adults 18-49 rating. Chicago Fire scored a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating up 6 percent from a 1.6 on April 4.

On The CW, Arrow earned a 0.9 down 10 percent from last week’s 1.0 Adults 18-49 rating. Supernatural notched a, 0.9 down 10 percent from last week’s 1.0 adults 18-49 rating.

Definitions: Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day.     On Nashville I agree about Hayden being miscast. I know she’s trying, but sorry, I ain’t feeling it her playing a “bad girl”. Just because people get nominated for Golden Globes, Emmys or Oscars doesn’t mean everyone will like them in the role. It is all a matter of personal opinion. Also, just being pretty and sexy doesn’t always cut it either. Besides since the show is so critically acclaimed, then why aren’t more people watching? I could think of a bunch of other actresses that would have been better suited for the role.

    @Melanie Nashville gets mixed reviews. But even if it was universally praised, it wouldn’t change the situation that much.
    Remember NBC’s Friday Night Lights? The accolades were coming from critics all over map. Yet it never hit it big.
    There are many other cases, I just can’t think of them at the moment. Writers block.

    I’ve yet to see movie premieres have a huge effect on ratings. He’s an idiot. He thinks networks should be in reruns every night.

    If you do not see more SVU as say that he is tired. After exit from Meloni the show was renewed and is better than ever. Kelly Gidish and Dani Pino are great actors. Dani Pino is even more beautiful and more talented than Chris Meloni. Not bear the tantrum of Eliot. Thank God he left. The loss of hearing is due more to the longevity of the series. And the crisis itself passing network TV.

    I agree, not to speak ill of Meloni or Stabler but the recent episodes are reminiscent of the early year where EVERYONE was focused on not just Stabler and his family drama.

    Blame Brenda Leigh Johnson and Sharon Raydor…

    …Chief Pope screwed them over, and now, karma kicks in…1.5 demo, maybe, for J.K. Simmons’ Family Tools, and maybe 5.8 million total audience…

    And Family Tools dropped 25% of the demo rating from The Middle, and 1.5 million total audience as well…

    …ABC made a 75% correct call, airing this in May. A 100% correct call would have been not to order this to series :p

    I stopped watching when Melon I left as well. The show might have showed his occasional family drama but it never dwelled on it. I enjoyed that and thought it added realism to the character. I’m not saying it’s not worth watching now, I just don’t care to cast changes
