Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    Scandal was amazing last night. While, its down 2 tenths, the show is still doing incredible for that time-slot.

    This season of TVD has been a flop. They need to fire Julie Plec already as the show runner.

    Wow, American Idol continues to hit lows. Fox and Nigel cannot be happy about this.

    @melissa

    “Person of Interest had an ugly half-hour drop off Greys Anatomy should adjust up to 3.0?

    the only reason person of interest is doing bad against greys anatomy is because more women are watching tv then men so thus explaning the numbers for greys anatomy

  • Davor

    A lot of people are saying that they weren’t able to watch from around 9.30 so that may be a reason why the demo fell so much.

  • sarah nz

    @ theCroup – that hypothetical AI remake reminds me of something, don’t worry it will come to me eventually ;)

  • Davor

    I was talking about POI off-course in my previous post.

  • Shawn P.

    I find it so silly that so many people have to consistently bash Grey’s for no reason. Just because you don’t like the show, does not take away the fact that it’s still doing great in the ratings. I don’t like POI, but I don’t wish to see it fail or bash it all the time. Greys and Scandal are my favorites and I’m glad they are doing well! Even happier to see Grey’s ahead of Scandal, but because they are both so good and both Shonda, ABC, productions, it wouldn’t bother me to see Scandal ahead! hoping for an upward adjustment for both Greys and Scandal.

  • sarah nz

    @ caveez – thanks so there was some sport that occurs at a similar time each year which may (only may) effect PoI (well that my take anyway).

    off topic perhaps:
    Is Ironman 3 only just opening in the US now ?
    It’s been open just over a week here in New Zealand… would have thought it would be same day release and not staggered worldwide release.
    Was an ok movie – prefer the 1st and 2nd over it, and definatly not as rewatchable as The Avengers in my opinion.

    “Wow, American Idol continues to hit lows. Fox and Nigel cannot be happy about this.”

    Nigel & Co. can look on the bright side: Next week and the championship the week after will be the last time this year that they’ll have to look at such dismal numbers. The finale might not come even close to their season debut numbers (6.0 demo/17.9 million). I think they may very well have trouble drawing 4.5 and 15 million for the finale.

  • Maya

    This is really bad for TVD and I don´t think people should be happy if it adjusts up the season started with 1.4 and now it’s just 1.0 or below I think it´s time to make important changes in that show ’cause for me it’s not appealing anymore I´ve only keep watching for Caroline and Klaus and he is leaving this season so I really need a very good reason to came back for season 5 :S

  • whocares

    @shawn, and you have no problem @Melissa’s bashing on POI. ;)

  • Tiblisitist

    LOL Hannibal is in the dumpster now. Horrible boring show. The mumbling Hannibal and the sweaty smelly Will are the downfall of the show.

  • SarahNichole

    @SkylarJames

    BATB is behind three shows and tied with two. If you rank it at the bottom of that list, it’s #6. It does better than the 7 other shows aired this season. A show ranked 6/13 is squarely in the middle. How is that hard to understand?

  • ViolaDeWynter

    I’m so happy Hannibal keeps failing. It’s getting canceled that’s for sure. Its fans are like so annoying, they keep hating on The Following (which is the best show on television) because it’s a much bigger hit than Hannibal. Well, karma is a bitch :)

  • Dani

    @Maya

    The TVD ratings are normal for the spring. You can’t compare the ratings from the start of the season to the end – pretty much every show drops in the spring, and TVD is no exception – it’s dropped at this time in previous years too. The ratings always drop off towards the end of the season. The ratings are slighty worse than they were this time last year, but not by much – they hit a 1.0 last season at this time of year too. The ratings right now are nothing to worry about. If they don’t go up again when the show returns in the fall…that’s when things start to look not great. But they always fall at this time of year, and they’re only slightly down compared to where they were this time last year, so the show’s doing fine. Oh, and this season started on a 1.6, not a 1.4 :P

  • frodo

    @RyanCanada

    Its not like Scandal is considered some masterpiece, on IMDB it barely has a 7.3, the critics do not praise it. Its just not my cup of tea, its a soap opera with bad acting.

    For me a good show would be Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Homeland, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, Vikings, POI, Revenge(mostly season 1), and the first couple of seasons of Grey’s Anatomy.

    Anyway as I said just because I think its a bad show does not mean I do not think its a successful show, its been the biggest success story of the year for ABC, one of few things that actually work for them.

  • Moses

    I tried again last night, for the 3rd time this season, to watch American Idol. Things were fine for about 2 minutes before Nicki Minaj spoke… The sound of her voice affects me in the same manner as fingernails being dragged across a chalkboard.

    Perhaps they’ll find a suitable replacement for her for next season? That’s if there is a next season of course.

  • BigBrotherFan

    Why are you getting so upset about Hannibals numbers? You know..many people are saying that with its HUGE international funding it’s a lock to return. No matter if it pulls below 1’s in the next few weeks, apparently NBC is losing 0 dollars on that (they apparently stand to lose more from a LAW AND ORDER RERUN!)! So no worries..with a 1.0 the show should be back for many seasons to come due to it’s “International funding”, you know, the same funding that saved 666 Park Ave. from getting canned after just 9 episodes! LOL

  • BigBrotherFan

    Sorry…UNLIKE DECEPTION (same rules don’t apply apparently) HANNIBAL is “ON THE BLUBBLE” with a 1 rating

  • rob60990

    I think we have a new bingo excuse. A show is doing poorly because it is too male skewing. lmao.

  • Bookworm

    Frodo,

    You keep ragging about an ImDb score but if I’m correct, that is a user submitted score. It is judged based on the people who use the site. Not all are critics or anything else. They are users so the rating of the show on that site is irrelevant. Revenge has keep its 8.1 rating since season 1 and everyone knows the quality has went down from fans and critics alike.

    I personally enjoy Scandal and it is not meant to be the other shows you mentioned. It is Scandal and very much a show of its own. I like it a lot and the acting is great, the characters are so believable and I feel like every actor was meant to play their respective character. Even the evil ones are genius because the actors who play them are total sweethearts!! (bellamy and jeff).
