UNIVISION’S HIT MORNING SHOW “DESPIERTA AMÉRICA” CELEBRATES ITS SWEET SIXTEEN & STRONG RATINGS GROWTH FROM WALT DISNEY WORLD, DISNEYLAND AND DISNEY CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE PARKS

Music, comedy, superstar guests, and beloved Disney characters mark the festive occasion; four deserving Hispanic families experience the dream of a lifetime— an Unforgettable visit to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

As part of the celebration, “Despierta América” debuts a lively new theme song


MIAMI - MAY 3, 2013 – With a fun-filled, four-hour party that featured show-stopping musical performances, comedy skits, celebrity guests, all the news and entertainment information of the day and an abundance of Disney magic, the Univision Network’s hit morning show “Despierta América” (Wake-Up America) celebrated its sixteenth anniversary today in a special LIVE broadcast from Walt Disney World in Florida with segments from Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

 

“Despierta América” hosts Alan Tacher, Ana Patricia González, Karla Martínez, Johnny Lozada, and Raúl González celebrated the show’s Sweet Sixteen in a truly magical setting, joined by beloved Disney characters and superstar guests. Julián Gil, telenovela heartthrob and judge on Univision’s reality/beauty competition “Nuestra Belleza Latina” (Our Latin Beauty), was on hand with his daughter Nicole, who despite being in her mid-twenties, enjoyed every minute of their emotional father/daughter visit to various Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in Orlando, proving that at this magical place, beautiful memories can be made at any age. Julian even experienced the dream of being a Cirque Du Soleil performer, as he and reporter Paola Gutierrez visited the exquisite Cirque du Soleil Theater and interviewed Mexican Aerial performer, Ana Cuellar, who delights audiences daily in La Nouba, exclusively located in Downtown Disney.

 

Latin rhythm took over the park with exciting get-up-and-dance performances by merengue queen Olga Tañón, award-winning tropical fusion duo Chino y Nacho, and famed Norteño music group Voz de Mando. In addition, the entertainment-packed telecast took viewers on a trip down memory lane to remember what fashions were in style 16 years ago and how the most popular Univision personalities looked back then. And in a truly hilarious encounter, singers Chino y Nacho faced their most outrageous imitators and wannabe competitors, “Chicho y Nano,” the comical duo played by “Despierta América” co-hosts Alan Tacher and Raúl González. Also adding to the joyous celebration, viewers watched as Nacho Mendoza proposed to his girlfriend in a romantic moment that surprised everyone.

 

The “Despierta América” 16th anniversary special also made four Hispanic families’ most cherished dreams come true by treating them to an Unforgettable visit to Disney California Adventure and Disneyland Park in California. Univision and Disney Parks joined forces to create a truly magical experience for these families as they enjoyed the thrills of Cars Land, Fantasy Faire, Mickey’s House and princess-like transformations at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.

 

As part of its Sweet Sixteen celebration, “Despierta América” unveiled a new theme song reflecting the cheerful, upbeat tone of the program and encouraging fans to “jump, smile, and wake up with us.” The new song be used in promotions and played during different segments of the show going forward. Long a favorite of Hispanic audiences, “Despierta América” is the No. 1 early morning program in the current 2012/2013 season with more Hispanic viewers than the combined viewing audiences of “ABC's Good Morning America,” “CBS This Morning” and NBC’s “Today Show.” Among Adults 18-49, “Despierta América” is up +29% season-to-date in the 2012/2013 season compared to the same period in the 2011/2012 season, while the English-language early morning programs on broadcast television - ABC’s “Good Morning America” (-1%), “CBS This Morning” (+0%) and NBC’s “Today Show” (-21%) are down or reporting no audience growth. Locally, “Despierta América” is out-delivering “Good Morning America” and “Today Show” as the No. 1 morning show in any language this season-to-date in Los Angeles, Miami and Houston.
