Happy for Y&R holding steady, I hope we will have a great sweeps. And GH is back into their normal routine. I wonder what happened with Thursday’s 1.7?

  • Gail

Gh is the only show to go down. No surprise there. Between the Pickle storyline and the bad recast of Lulu and giving the incredibly bad actor Milo a storyline… It’s tanking!!

  • Mike

So happy for Y&R. Great week. Great set up for May sweeps. Hope you build on it.

Three of the soaps were up in the key demo on viewers. That is good.

  • diana

ITA Gail, GH was on fire during the anniversary episodes, the Nurses Ball & then the Luke&Laura “adventure”, but since then the show has been dreadfully dull (IMO). I watched about 5 minutes worth last week. Thank goodness for the new OLTL, I got my soap fix from that.

  • TimsDale4ever

Nice year over year gains for B&B, GH, and DAYS. Y&R — not surprised!

  • Mike

TimsDale, I wouldn’t consider holding your own in Total Viewers and adding 15000 in 18-49 and 55,000 in 18-34 from last that bad. I’m sure that CBS is not crying.

Add to it Y&R and Days are the only 2 soaps to be up in both of the key demos from last week. That is not really saying a whole lot since all the soaps were down last week due to the preemptions but at least Y&R and Days recovered nicely and didn’t fall further.

  • PatF

Typical to see some of the comments on here.

I think sweeps month will be good for Y and R. B and B has also been pretty consistent.

Some of the show’s daily numbers under 2.5 mil are not good news. But overall still a good showing versus LY and increases in the 18-49 for all but GH.

  • TimsDale4ever

I actually think it is kind of bad when you consider the show has had a whole new head production team in place for over 6 months now, and has added new characters and stories and sets and new music and it hasn’t really paid off in attracting a lot more viewers. I would be VERY disappointed. Maybe the turn around is much further down the road. I really hope it is for them and for all of daytime in general.

  • Karen C

GH has crashed and burned after their fantastic anniversary episodes. I FF through most of last week. Bored by Lulu’s amnesia and the relish mess. Go Y&R!

  • rob60990

Knew GH would crash this week. I believe Thursday was the day the show had a pre-emption for something. I can’t recall.

    @TimsDale4ever

If you’re talking about Y&R, i totally agree. I’ve been watching Y&R since the mid to late 70′s, yet since Farren took over, i’ve been displeased with the product to the point of not even recording it to watch later.

There’s just a weird vibe to the show now, and JFP has to be the one to blame. Also, almost every scene is just a dialogue. My mother and I used to love the interplay between characters and storylines, and now it seems that everyone is in their own private idaho.

I may not return as a viewer unless something major happens storyline-wise, but after 30+ years, it’ll be hard to do something that hasn’t been done before.

By the way, the actress that plays Jill Foster Abbott….etc…. said when she returned that there was supposed to be some great story for her character, yet nothing has developed. Was that stopped by JFP or is that her way of saying that she doesn’t like what was plannned for “Jill” before she took over as producer.

  • Derrick

Great for Y&R……….So happy they are up!!!!
    Negative(s) have started!

  • Mike

I just wonder what Y&R will do with Kay’s story. Jeanne Cooper has been in the hospital for weeks and will likely be there awhile longer. It will be awhile if ever when she returns to work. It seemed they might have been building to something or maybe they were just setting things up in case this happened.

As far as Jill, I miss her but I don’t see how they work around her crazy taping schedule as far as putting her in a big story. Isn’t she the one that didn’t move back to California and just flies back for taping and tapes up a bunch of scenes at a time?

@TimsDale — I don’t think CBS will do anything major unless the ratings drop big time. They brought Phelps in to make the show cheaper. And with all the people she got rid of and replaced with all those newbies, she has done that. Her ratings are at what MAB had and the show is cheaper. So CBS is making more money.

Sadly that is all that matters to the execs these days.

  • Anna

B&B just lost me when Brook doctor told her she was having a baby!!!!! Come on this will be the second time this woman will have a baby by some man who was in a relationship with a family memeber of hers. First her daughter and now her sister. Well Steffy get ready because you will lose your baby and 50 year old Brook will be bringing her sister husband baby into the world.

  • Bex

Why are people concerned with Y&R if they no longer watch the show anymore? You are no longer a viewer, you no longer contribute to the ratings, so your opinion no longer matters.

  • PatF

Y and R is only going up against 4.2-4.3 mil (total viewers) over the next eight weeks.

I don’t really care for JFP much, but the frenetic writing has stopped under Josh, so as far as storytelling pace goes, the show is back on track.

Some viewers don’t care for the slow pace (versus LML or MAB), but I prefer it, and it’s true to the history of the show.

Josh can amp it up a bit, but I don’t want any more chipmunk heads or duel personalities, or quick weddings. Thanks Josh for the traditional soap writing.

  • David

3 Soaps were up in total viewers from one year ago. Y&R was flat from one year ago. JFP is slowly killing that show.

GH was bound to be down considering that it was a slow week and people are still adjusting to the new Lulu. All things considered wasn’t bad and still up from a year ago in total viewers and 18-49.

Thursday had a preemption in many parts of the country which also hurt GH’s numbers.

Considering all the complaints I have seen about how bad Days has been surprising to see it up from last week although not much of a gain at all.

  • MM

All the talk about GH-which will be fine, Ron C. is a good writer.
Even the good ones can slip up from time to time,he will rebound!
    The sooner the better,please.
But Days! is absolutely terrible, those so called plans we keep hearing about but yet to life up to the hype! They need new writers NOW!

  • Chrisann D

Gail, You are right on. I still watch every minute of GH but it has been ummmm….a little boring. Never thought I would say that about GH under the new writers but it has been slow. Love the Maxi baby storyline though. Oh well…there is always the next ratings post. But good going for the rest of the soaps!!!

  • PMR

SORRY but the Y&R/JFP haters are in the minority. With the exception of not tying up some loose storylines with Ricky, Daisy, Mystery alley lady, the knife and hidden cameras–the show is just getting better and better. Most of the recasts have been spot on although I haven’t seen the new Abby yet. The last one left for contract role on GH. The new Noah is awesome, This Summer is better than the short-lived first aged one, Kyle never caught on. I will say I am not a Tyler fan. I think the actors who play Marcus and Tyler should have been playing the opposite roles. Phyllis is watchable again, they redeemed Sharon, are giving Nikki a meaty storyline as well as the one Jack just had. It will be interesting to see how the handle the Jeanne Cooper illnes.
