Almost Human

Fox has ordered four dramas to series for the 2013-14 season: Rake, Gang Related, Sleepy Hollow and Almost Human (from Fringe team of J.J. Abrams and J.H. Wyman).

Update: Fox has also picked up Dads from Seth MacFarlane along with four other comedies.

They premiered four new dramas two years ago with Terra Nova, Alcatraz, Touch, and The Finder. And all four got 13-episode runs. No reason to think they can’t do the same again next year.

ok why on earth would they renew glee for 2 seasons only to put it on Friday where their target audience isn’t watching on that night. i would not be surprised if they moved 2 of their sitcoms to friday as they are low. yes no matter how much people love RH , it was under a 2.0 rating , on a Tuesday. glee was always above a 2.0

What will they do with so many dramas? I am all for it because I think this is what FOX needs but I don’t know how will they schedule it and keep the comedy block. Seems impossible, even with short orders for some of them.

My only guesses are a lot of timeshare:
    – Rake timeshares with the following on mondays
    – The other three timeshare wednesdays post talent shows (fall/winter/spring), as they did on mondays the past season with terra nova/alcatraz/bones [though it was supposed to be touch originally]. One of them gets the post superbowl timeslot.

But they have another hour of comedies now.

I’d, almost, hate to see FOX launch one of the new dramas on Friday. It would, surely, be destined to die. I would, certainly, move “Hell’s Kitchen/Kitchen Nightmares/Gordon Ramsay Yelling At People” back to Friday to free up valuable weekday real estate. It’s cheaper than a scripted series and does just fine for FOX on Fridays. As for the other Friday time slot, who knows?

The other three timeshare wednesdays post talent shows (fall/winter/spring),

So you think XFactor and AI will go down to two one-hour spots?

How could they pass on delirium…. This sounded like the most different and interesting pilot in a long time… I really hope a cable channel picks it up

Yeah, I can’t think of any shows which aired on Fridays in their first season and have been renewed.

Maybe Kitchen Nightmares & Hells Kitchen will shift to Saturdays since Cops is cancelled. That opens up a new hour on Fri & of course with Touch gone you now have 2 hrs to fill. I’m thinking RH, TMP & Almost Human will happen on Fri. Glee moves back to Tues & you have Mon & Thur at 9pm. Cutback X-Factor to 1 hr then you have Wed at 9pm to schedule a new show also.

One of the remaining NBC drama pilots in contention, “I am Victor”, seems an awful lot like “Rake”. They both sound like a House rip-off, except he’s a lawyer. NBC would be smart to pass on I am Victor now that Fox has greenlit Rake – it’s not a premise worth devoting 2 hours of primetime toward.

VERY few shows aired there first Season on Friday and got Renewed. Grimm, sure. Dollhouse, sure. And…

Fox is pretty bad about Friday nights. Most new shows fail.

I can see Glee moving to Friday.

Why would NBC pass on I Am Victor because it sounds like Rake? Rake, apparently, won’t launch to midseason. If Victor launches first, Rake will seem “like” Victor.

Of course, both are different shows and different networks.

Wait, they didn’t pick up Delirium??? damnm that was one of the polits I was looking most forward too…

I would put Gang Related on Monday at 9pm.

    X-Factor/American Idol
    Sleepy Hollow/Rake

I’m not saying NBC would, I’m just saying I would. Genre/premise saturation is a recipe for disaster (see comedy blocs on Tuesday, circa last fall). And a drama centered around an odd-ball lawyer not only has been tried and utterly failed recently (that Kathy Bates vehicle) but why try having 2 versions of the same not-popular premise compete for viewers’ limited time?

Your point about one premiering in mid-season is a good one. It’ll give the other show a chance to try (and likely fail).

I’m just not likely to check out either because it’s so hum-drum.

Law & Order SVU, CSI, Blue Bloods, …

    Most new shows fail.

Yes, even if they aren’t on Friday. FOX only has ten hours to work with in the fall. It’s basically a given that they will put a new drama on Friday.

    I Guess that’s a no for Delirium.

  • DonJ1973

There is no way Gang Related will be an 8pm show.

It’s obviously a male oriented police action series. Mondays at 9pm seems like a logical spot to put it.

However, I can’t see it being only a 13 episode half season show. I know there isn’t much room on the schedule, but the studios do not want to film short network TV seasons, it kills potential interest in overseas sales. If the show does well, they will have to order a full season somehow.
