    The networks cancel “Vegas”, yet they renew “Revolution”. I don’t get it. Revolution needs to get rid of the young gal. She’s the reason I stopped watching it. Vegas is a good show…bring it back.

  • Holly

    @Micke,

    Vegas and Revolution are on different networks, so their fates would never have been tied together. However, even on the much lower performing NBC, Revolution got significantly better ratings than Vegas and therefore got much higher prices for their ads. Vegas was on the highest rated network and got ratings that would justify cancellation on any of the big 4.

    It’s simple economics.

  • I love TV!

    @UV

    They all sucked big time lool, sorry

  • Dan S

    At least 2 shows that got canceled had decent endings Touch & Vegas. Southland on the other hand while it had a ending it wasn’t a satisfactory 1. That show will be deeply missed that had many more stories to tell.

  • tj

    @Catocony.. I think you are spot on. Especially about the one minute overlay! I thought it was just me that was thinking that. I agree with too much haitus time as well. That’s why I like USA. Usually a 2 week break but beyond that they air alot of new episodes in a row.

  • rob60990

    NBC expected to announce their fall schedule today at 2PST (5 EST).

  • DC

    Just don’t understand why good sbows are cancelled. Shows like Vegas, Body of Proof, Touch, Red Widow, Made in Jersey, Mob Doctor, Emily Owens etc.
    Every season the same thing. I hate to start watching something as I know it will be gone before the next season. These shows are not even given a chance to mature with time.
    Why do the TV stations continue to leave shows on that are a bad influence and also leave these reality shows on TV that no one really enjoys. Everyone that I know said they have been burned out with these silly reality shows for years, but they continue to show up.

  • Justin121

    ABC and NBC are putting their foot down.

    Won’t settle for lower than 1.7 / high 1s.

    Body of Proof, others: -1.5

    Parks and Recreation, Nashville, Chicago Fire, others: +1.7

    Weakest network, CW, had 3 hours of renewals.

    Second weakest NBC -weakest among Big 4- had two hours renewed.

    FOX and ABC only renewed an hour and a half. CBS 1.

  • DRG

    Body of Proof and CSI NY, really? Two of the shows that make it worth turning on the set. How late was the bar open at the cut party?

  • A10128

    I cannot believe they cancelled Go On & The New Normal. NBC execs are just hellbent on systematically destroying their own network from the inside. Networks just do not know how to nurture shows anymore. I personally am exhausted every September trying to latch on to the slew of new shows they heap on us only to just throw them out the window b/c they don’t garner 10 million viewers each airing. I’m finished with network television. No wonder cable networks are kicking their asses.

  • Ultima

    Networks just do not know how to nurture shows anymore.

    Ah, the fantasy past, when networks didn’t cancel low rated shows.

    No wonder cable networks are kicking their asses.

    Ah, the fantasy present, where the major broadcast networks don’t at least double up the best cable networks every year.

    I wonder, what do you see in your fantasy future?

  • Ultima

    @DC
    Just don’t understand why good sbows are cancelled.

    Because TV shows cost money to produce and a network’s primary source of revenue is selling time to advertisers or selling veteran shows into syndication.

    The shows that provide the least value are canceled to make room for more successful programs or simply new programs that have the potential to be successful.

  • Nick

    @Melissa

    Oops. Apparently the renewal was so unbelievable, my brain didn’t believe it at all!

    @DC

    Why do the TV stations continue to leave shows on that are a bad influence and also leave these reality shows on TV that no one really enjoys.

    Because people watch them… and that gives the network $$$?

    @A10128

    NBC execs are just hellbent on systematically destroying their own network from the inside.

    Yep. NBC is self-destructive, and their only goal is to go out of business.
    *that rolling-eyes emoticon that Ultima does and I don’t know how to do*

    No wonder cable networks are kicking their asses.

    :D hahahahaha.
    Thanks for the laugh. Cable networks are SO NOT kicking broadcast’s *sses. Cable has TWO big hits: The Walking Dead and Duck Dynasty. The networks have scores of them in the same league or better: Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, The Voice, NCIS, American Idol, Grey’s Anatomy, etc.

    I actually got more wrong than I was expecting:

    I got Go On and Malibu Country wrong, but I am fine with those (predictions wise, I happened to watch and like both, so I am sad about that) as I had them at 55% and 45%, so it was a toss up call.

    The ones I truly missed though:
    – The Carrie Diaries: well, it really was the next show to renew on my cw index (the alternatives were 90210 and cult, so that is not saying much), so I suppose it is not inexplicable and I just have to roll the ball and accept that they wanted a 12th drama hour and that they were unhappy with their pilots. But is hard to grasp because it had a very low index number for me. Next season, I would like to start seeing 18-34 numbers in a systematic way, I think it would help to understand some of the weird stuff that happens (Glee renewed for 2 seasons, the mindy project renewal, the carrie diaries renewal) – So, shocked yes but not a model destruction thing

    – Body of Proof: this is the cancelation that I am most sad about to be honest. I was prepared to loose it last year, but this year I was really counting on it coming back, especially because they are having their best season yet, by far. Anyway, with this one it is the exactly opposite of The Carrie Diaries, in the sense that I do have it very high on the index (about 0.90) but it really was the next show ABC could cancel if they wanted to. The other option was Nashville, but I have that one slightly higher, at 0.94, so I suppose this is okay. It is still hard for me to fully get it, because the index number is so high, but I guess this (and the carrie diaries) shows the limits to the “relativity” of ratings (which NBC comedies situation also showed actually). I have to think of a way to introduce this in the model somehow – Again, hard to understand, but not model destructive (very shocking though)

    – How to Live with Your Parents: this one is another animal. I can’t understand it. I suppose it was the whole “Not produced by ABC thing” but its index number was so high that I didn’t think it would come down to political factors, especially it being a first season show, I didn’t think it would matter. This one will have me doing some fine tunning in the model, even though I still don’t know how to explain it very well. It is not that I think it was a bad call, it was just a call that I could not explain. They did renew Bitch in the 23 with a lower retention, so I will not buy that it was the reason. Maybe it was a combination of political factors with wanting to avoid the same situation as Bitch in the 23 with loving their pilots and wanting one of them to get the post MF slot. Regardless, I would still give it a clear clear hedge over the neighbors (although I ended up predicting its renewal too) – this one is shocking and model destructive, I will have a hard time dealing with it.

    @Nick,

    *that rolling-eyes emoticon that Ultima does and I don’t know how to do*

    It’s the word “roll” between two colons

    If you google “wordpress smilies” you get a page with the codes for them.

  • Shari

    Can’t believe they cancelled CSI NY and Golden Boy. The networks are run by idiots. They always cancel the good shows and keep the stupid ones.

  • Ultima

    @Shari
    They always cancel the good shows and keep the stupid ones.

    Quality is subjective. Costs and revenue are not.

  • HV

    @DC
    You just have different taste. But you got three seasons out of Body of Proof, so be happy! I only got one season out of my favorite new shows HTLWYP, Go On, and 1600 Penn (although I knew that 1600 Penn was dead.)

  • Unknown

    WOW, ABC cancelled half of their shows and NBC cancelled almost 2/3
