Smash March 6

You've been waiting for it...You've said it it's been saved by some poll, but here we are, at the end of all things and Smash has been officially canceled after two seasons.

(Sorry for the Lord of the Rings reference, but it's been a long night!)

I’m so glad about this! How could a show with Debra Messing and Angelica Houston be so bad? Generally those women know how to chose a script that works for them!

This was the TOUCH of NBC last season bad ratings, renewed for a second season, retooled, etc

  • Darius03

Smash ,might mot be a great show, had a very poor start and should’ve been cancelled mid of the first season, bur it seems that it is picking up viewership again. Maybe the decision was made before the recent last two episodes were aired.

  • Craig

Great fun campy show that was badly handled, sorry to see it go.

  • DaxJackson

Going to go on facebook and look at Smash’s page… and see all the fangirls crying, proclaiming NBC is crap and Smash was the best program ever… I take too much pleasure out of this… Just disappointing that Community didn’t get the boot as well.

  • DaxJackson

Witnessing the fan excuse bingo a million times over on Smash’s page and Five Stages Of Grief … This is entertaining ^^

  • Mike

Smash was a good show and I hate to see it cancelled.

  • Bill

I don’t understand why people are happy a show’s been cancelled. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it; there are plenty of other shows to watch instead. We liked Smash because it was different. The cast was great and the story lines believable. Sorry to see it go.

  • Melanie P.

Enjoyed the first season alot, but I lost interest during the second season due to it being moved to another night and time. I only watched the first episode of this new season.

  • DaxJackson

First season was great, second has been terrible. But one thing I will miss is the original music, even from the rubbish Hit List storyline, the original music has been fantastic. Not sad to see it go though after this season.

  • Teri

Thank goodness for cable channels, they don’t cancel shows do easily!

  • Ultima

    @Bill
I don’t understand why people are happy a show’s been cancelled.

Because that show is taking up valuable primetime schedule space.

there are plenty of other shows to watch instead

It’s hard to watch the show that doesn’t get renewed or whose pilot doesn’t get picked up because the network renewed a show you don’t like instead.

Love Smash. What now more stupid reality tv?

Are people really this stupid? Do they not see the dozens of new scripted shows being ordered by the networks?

When scripted shows get canceled, the vast majority of the time, they are replaced by new scriped shows – not more reality!

The amount of time that the major networks devote to scripted shows is basically unchanged since the late 80s (if you exclude Saturdays).

  • Stacy

So much for all the folks who insisted that there wouldn’t be an official cancellation. :)

  • DJ

Loved this intelligent, funny, dramatic, show full of talent. There is so much violence on TV, it was great to have a totally different show. I agree it’s not for everyone but with good promotion, good stories and good time slot, it could work. I think NBC gave up too soon.

  • tvfan2013

Primetime Schedule for 2013-14…… Guaranteed : Sunday 7E/6 C CBS : Football Overrun /60 Minutes NBC : Football Overrun/ Sunday Night Football Pregame ABC : Americas Funniest Videos… To all of you that make ridiculous schedule predictions this hasn’t changed in quite awhile !!

  • Ultima

    @DJ
with good promotion… and good time slot

I swear I remember Smash having a ridiuclous amount of promotion heading into it’s night after the Super Bowl premiere and a timeslot behind NBC’s #1 show last season.

I think NBC gave up too soon.

Presumably, you also think TV shows are made for free. Smash was expensive and had horrible ratings. At some point, you just have to stop throwing good money after bad.

They replaced it with Ready for Love, and the ratings went UP!

  • booboo

McPhee was the star and NBC didn’t realize it, which is rather startling.

  • Danak

I loved the show and both seasons. I knew the cancellation was coming all season and it’s still sad. I don’t think the show deserved the amount of hate it got, but everyone has their own opinion. It tried to be something different in a sea of sameness and it was very ambitious with its original music and choreography. I will miss it.

  • Joseph

Our own Cancellation Bear had been waiting over a year for this moment.

I suspect he think this was his favorite cancellation.

So you get to decide for all of us what shows should be on, Ultima? Fine – how about “*#^^ All the SMASH Fans, So I Can Have All The Shows I Want!”? Start with me, okay?
