Smash March 6

You've been waiting for it...You've said it it's been saved by some poll, but here we are, at the end of all things and Smash has been officially canceled after two seasons.

(Sorry for the Lord of the Rings reference, but it's been a long night!)

Just in time for Katharine McPhee to play Wonder Woman!

  • HF

I agree that Smash should have been cancelled based on its ratings, and I hadn’t watched since the first season. However, the idea that people are happy with the cancellation simply because it frees up “valuable primetime schedule space” is not totally accurate. Some folks who comment here and on other boards simply enjoy engaging in schadenfreude. Smash fans are feeling the brunt of that right now. And, as a Hannibal fan, I’ll likely be feeling it pretty soon. :)

it was a great show – 2bad it was cancelled – NBC is run by untalented douche bags just like the commenter Body of Proof

  • zumpie

@Raz – it’ll be a wonder if the talent-free Kat McPee Pee ever gets a decent job, again. I strongly suspect the show might’ve been better had it not been a vehicle entirely for her, to tell us how amazingly fantastic she was. Had a more talented, charismatic young woman been in the role (and had the writing been less Mary-Suish), I might’ve watched and not wanted to puke.

Oh also, other than being tall, McPee Pee doesn’t really have Wonder Woman’s body type. AND she can’t act her way out a paper bag.

  • Steve

As I said last year at this time, NBC should have kept Harry’s Law, but instead opted to renew Smash instead.

    Now they have neither.

  • Smash Fan

Smash was a great show. Body of Proof on the other hand, not how a Medical Examiner’s office really works, and Dana Delaney only got people to watch the show because of her skimpy little outfits. Hey let’s wh0re out the Medical Examiner, that would make a great show!! – NOT!

  • Zapbob

    Will miss Megan…..

Umm….She’s like 90! I don’t want to see her in skimpy outfits!

I am so upset that Smash has been cancelled. It’s all NBC’s fault! You don’t bring on a new show and then wait 9 months in bring it back for it’s second season. It’s a wonderful show with great writing and great music. I will be deeply saddened to see it go! I truly hope they reconsider, and hype it up much more. It’s no wonder NBC sucks now. Whos is running that network. I may never watch another show on it again. Why ever allow myself to get emotionally invested again, only to have the powers to be rip it away from me. NOT A FAN of the Peacock any longer. Maybe Fox or ABC will pick it up!

  • gerry

@ joe r – no network is picking this show up- the ratings were abysmal. its only chance would be cable, and i imagine its price tag is too much for a cable network to take a chance on.

its really gotten good in it’s past few episodes, it’s a shame to see it going now. i mean, it was pretty obvious that it was when it got the boot to saturday, but the new showrunners’ had actually begun steering the ship in the right direction. ‘dimming’ the lights to smash, y’all

  • TV Viewer

I hope this brings to an end once and for all time those worthless Save Our Show polls.
Smash won the E! online poll.
CSI: NY won the USA Today poll (with 38% voting to save it), while Body of Proof and Vegas were tied for second with 34% voting to save those programs.
Please people; these online polls are worthless. They won’t do anything for a show that is obviously going to be cancelled, and probably have very little impact on “bubble” programs.
Wise up and use this as a learning experience. IF E!, USA Today, or someone else has a Save Our Show campaign next year, Remember 2013 and ignore them as useless “snake oil” sales people.
The TV By the Numbers (Zap2it) Don’t Save Their Show poll tried to warn you Not to get your hopes up and hopefully you will listen next year.

The show got boring fast for me after the second season 2 episode and I gave it up. My only regret is that there won’t be any future albums. Smash had some good music.

  • Peggy

To bad…I really loved the show. Great cast.

  • Joe.

Raz; No. McPhee will never be Wonder-Woman. She’s not curvy; nor can she act.

    Bitter much????
    or should I have typed
    Misogynist much?

  • Max

You all realize that people were skeptical about the poll until NBC said that the results would effect whether or not they renewed the show? Not to mention, you tvbythenumbers writers shouldn’t puff yourselves up too much with I told you so’s you were wrong on plenty of your predictions so I wouldn’t get to arrogant especially when it comes to being right about a show that posted low ratings nearly every episode and was eventually moved to Saturdays.

  • Roberta Rodriguez

Smash is a hit. It’s a shame that its ending so soon! I love this show. Come on people, step up and fight for this show to stay!

  • Tom

I’ll bet most of the criticism of Smash is coming from posters who wouldn’t attend a musical if someone paid their way. There’s plenty of talent on this show. There just aren’t enough interested viewers. I’ve said before that musicals are a tough sell nowadays. So, if you don’t appreciate the genre then bashing the performers is pointless.

  • peggy

Goddamnit!!! I am so tired of really loving a show and having it cancelled while some dumb, inane crap just keeps on running. Smash is one of the best shows on … WHY are the ratings down? One reason … there is such a long time between the end of one season and the beginning of the next, most people forget what’s going on or simply lose interest. TV sucks … I’m going to start reading!!

  • ML

Very disappointed. It was one of the few shows that was worth setting the DVR box for. Go figure. I don’t know who is in charge (probably connected with the nit whits that axed Ann) but they REALLY don’t seem to have a clue of what good TV is. They also must not mind losing viewers to other networks because NBC is not scoring very well with THIS viewer.
