Can’t blame GH numbers on preemption’s or the new Lulu this time. Days had a nice little run, it’s too bad it didn’t continue, because I was really pulling for them. I’m still wishing the best for Y&R as well, they need to get an handle on things, it’s sweeps and things really need to get better next week.

Some people will try to say it’s from the reboots, but the lowest ratings of the week were on Friday when they had the recaps.

    Probably just the Spring trend.

The good news is they are still up slightly from last year and heading into the full month of sweeps we should see improvement.

  • Derrick

    Bingo!!!
Let’s hope for a rebound next week!

  • rob60990

Terrible for GH. The show is terrible now.

  • Mike

Sad for all the soaps. But this is the time of the year when people head outside. Even shows like The Voice in prime time are suffering but at the same time shows like Duck Dynasty are soaring. Just goes to show if it is something you really want to watch you will make time for it.

As far as whether the reboots had any thing to do with it — that one is hard to tell. If you look around on the boards, you will see many who said they quit watching the network soaps now. But how many of them were watching live anyway. Most were watching on DVR and didn’t count in these ratings anyway. So who knows. Plus it is highly doubtful that many of those posting on message boards are Nielsen families.

The heads of these shows have to just look and ask themselves are these due to the stories or typical of this time of the year. The shows that most have to worry are the ones that have been decreasing over several weeks. Up and down fluctuations are normal, but when you drop several weeks in a row then it is time to start looking at what is wrong.

The biggest hit was to the 18-49 where all shows dropped and none of the 4 are up from a year ago anymore either.

Hopefully we will see a rebound next week.

  • Lyntex

Not surprised, really. Soaps continue to focus on behavior that a lot of people (18-49 demo especially) can’t and don’t identify with anymore. Women see themselves as more than props for infidelity. Why no strong women? Why no strong marriages/families? Its just not as entertaining watching adults behave so nonsensical.

Soaps have not kept up with the times………

  • Jeff

YUCK for all the soaps. Let’s hope for a quick rebound for all of them, and continued success for AMC and OLTL online.

  • jonboyelk

    Ouch!

  • jupiter3765

do you think abc regrets cancelling amc and oltl

  • jupiter3765

    bad ratings for gh

  • Greg

Its just a “spring thing”. Sure their numbers have dwindled in the past week but they’re still slightly better than this time last year. As the summer approaches going into the Fall, and as long as storylines are interesting etc then the #s will go way back up. Trust!

I’d really like to know how well AMC and OLTL have done in their 2nd week!

  • Mike

    jupiter,

I don’t think so. The money that ABC is making from the licensing fees for both shows is clear profit for them. As long as both shows are successful they will continue to get that, and if the shows prosper then the licensing fees become worth more…so the next time they can even negotiate for higher ones.

  • Mike

    Greg,

I don’t look at those charts at ITunes every day, but looking at them today the only one in the top 100 ITunes charts for TV shows is One Life To Live this week and it is #100 for Chapter 2, Part 4.

  • Lee

I’m watching AMC and OLTL for GH story line has suckes for months.

  • Lee

I’m watching AMC and OLTL fits into my day perfectly and the characters and story lines are believable getting a new Lulu and shuffling characters back and forth made me leave GH for good.

  • Jeff

However bad things are for the soaps, it must be way worse for the Chew, as we haven’t seen ratings on that show in months. Plus, poor GH has to pimp out the show so badly. If I were taking a shot everytime someone has said “THE CHEW” this week on GH, I would be hospitalized from alcohol poisoning. I also wonder what’s been happening with Katie. Haven’t seen her ratings in a while either.

  • David

I have to laugh at the haters saying horrible numbers for GH

GH actually had the lowest drop off in total viewers of all the soaps. If anything Young and THe Restless drops are bad But not surprising. JFP will continue to ruin that show

As for the person who said you cannot blame new LULU in regard to GH. You actually can. The ratings posted are from last week which new Lulu was the focus of the show.

Next week I expect to see GH gain as this week had Luke, Laura, Scotty, Duke, Anna, AJ, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Tracy as the focus. Plus the new Morgan debuting and that story kicking off. Loved seeing Maura West incvolved in this She was great in scenes with Anthony Geary this week. I cannot wait to see where this goes

Interesting that Katie’s ratings were up during the GH 50th anniversary when their ratings where also up. i would say since in most markets Katie comes on right after GH that her ratings surge was definitely helped by being on after GH.
