Mike…I did not really care for the character of Kay Chancellor, so I would not have a problem with them recasting the role, although the producers have gone on record as saying that won’t be the case.

I can see both sides of the “recast debate”. Some people consider it heresy to suggest a recast for a long-running character, but it has been done in the past. In this case, it may be best to let Kay Chancellor rest in peace.

I remember when ATWT decided to recast the iconic role of Lily Snyder, but after a while, I grew to enjoy the new actress. She was able to make the character her own, and the audience did not react too negatively, which obviously helped the transition.

  • David

Wow JAYTN says he will ignore more yet he has been all over 2 other sites posting about me.

    Shows JAYTN is a fake

With all the networks announcing their new fall schedules this week, I wonder when or if ABC will announce their daytime renewals. “The View” is a lock to return, but the jury is out on “The Chew” and GH. GH has been losing viewers for the past three weeks and I haven’t seen any numbers for “The Chew” since September 2012.

I can’t remember the last time that ABC issues a press release that mentioned either GH or “The Chew”. Compare that to CBS which seemed to issue a press release about its daytime line-up every week during the winter and early spring. Also, CBS very publicly renewed its entire daytime line-up way back in January, while the only thing we hear from ABC is crickets chirping.

  • Mike

Jay, I normally wouldn’t have a problem with a recast, but I would in this instance. She was so identified with the role, and had been on since 1973.

  • Eileen

OK NOW FIRST OF ALL I am VERY OFFENDED by these personal attacks I have been subjected to here simply for expressing MY OPINION! I am allowed to do that you know!! Second of all I will have you all know that B&B is the only decent soap on today and anyone who disagrees with that CLEARLY has no idea what they are talking about and shouldn’t even be watching soaps in the first place! And I will have you all know I have been watching soaps for a LOT longer than MOST of you! GH has been rubbish for a long time now and it will probably be cancelled soon. It doesn’t make any sense to bring back Roger, Kristen & Michael in completely new roles after they so recently appeared on GH as their OLTL counterparts and I for one won’t accept that. I haven’t even watched a single episode of GH since the whole Alcazar nonsense and I refuse to ever watch it again because it’s just so awful. FURTHERMORE I don’t approve of anything going on DAYS right now, the storylines are just terrible and offensive. And everyone knows JFP is slowing ruining Y&R. So there.

  • Mike

Wow just read on SON and Daytime Royalty that another of B&B’s vets is out and one of their three young stars (part of the triangle) is leaving too. The vet I am not too upset about but the young star I will miss.

I know that B&B has done okay with the departures of Moss and Flannery, but can they keep doing okay with even more fan favorites leaving.

  • Bex

Eileen, I think Jay had a point about ignoring the trouble makers. Anytime you start calling others c**t and attacking another for their medical condition it’s time to just bypass them. The curse filter is in place for a reason.

  • Bex

@JayTN I remember reading that it was around this time last year that ABC issued a statement that GH was safe from cancellation? Personally I don’t think GH is going anywhere, at least not this year anyway. I think perhaps they might wait and see what happens with the 3 OLTL stars for the remainder of the year. Sadly I don’t see these 3 being able to take GH back to the top, and if they were smart over there they would have kept building on the vets which is when their ratings started to take off. The 3 OLTL stars were no where in the building when GH had their bump, it’s too bad FV is so obsessed with those characters.

  • Bex

I can’t believe Dimitri is returning to AMC, this is amazing. Who’s next Noah and Julia?

  • Chrisann D

Bex, I agree with you and Jay. Even if I happen to enjoy GH very much, to bash anyone or call them really vulgar names because you don’t agree is a sign its time to just ignore them. There are very few words that offend me but the “C” word is one of them.

  • Heather

I don’t think we’ll hear any renewal announcement from ABC as far as its daytime lineup goes.

When AMC, OLTL and GH aired on ABC for 40 years, we never heard of anything regarding yearly renewals. ABC just kept airing them with no announcement. So I would think the same logic applies to this View/Chew/GH lineup. We don’t hear from ABC because ABC most likely doesn’t have any intention to change its daytime schedule. Otherwise, it would have already announced something by now (as it did in 2011 and 2012). Sure ABC could have taken the CBS route and made an official renewal announcement about its daytime schedule. But it is not required to do so especially since ABC owns all of its daytime shows.

So to make a long story short, ABC’s silence merely means that the daytime lineup will invariably remain as it currently is in September.

  • Dee

Cancel GH now. Its total crap! I have never seen the show in worse condition than under RC/FV’s reign. B&B is not worth talking about at all. Y&R is becoming a haven for JFP’s pets, as expected. DOOL is honestly the only show that has anything good happening on it.

  • TimsDale4ever

Really weird news from Prospect Park. They just announced they are reducing the number of episodes of AMC and OLTL to 2 a week. M&W for AMC, and T&TH for OLTL – or something like that, claiming viewers are complaining that there are too many episodes to view and therefore unable to stay current. Who knows if this is true or not but I wonder if the real reason is that there aren’t as many views as they had hoped for and this is a way to reduce costs by cutting the number of episodes in half. I’m ashamed to admit I have done little to none with watching any of OLTL which I adored. For me. it’s just too much effort to watch on line. It’s just so easy to watch something on the tube at a certain scheduled time or after it’s been recorded. Yes, I’m 362 years old, lol.

  • Chrisann D

TimsDale, Just saw that too. I don’t know but it doesn’t seem very positive for OLTL and AMC BUT they did say they were consistently in the top 10 watched shows….I think. If I am wrong I am sure someone will enlighten me! I know I have a hard time keeping up on both shows online. But I watch at least 3 episodes of each a week. But I am happy to see them when I do watch them. I don’t miss an episode of GH though! Not real happy with the direction the show is taking right now but I am optimistic.

  • Chrisann D

Dee, One mans crap is another mans treasure. We don’t all have the same tastes. But hey I like Days too!

  • JayTN

TimsDale4ever…there are probably a lot of people that, like you, just don’t have the time or patience to sit in front of the computer screen for that period of time, whether it be 30 minutes or one hour. That is the risk that Prospect Park took by placing AMC and OLTL on the internet only in the U.S. They would probably have had better luck if they could have persuaded a cable network to air the episodes as well. I know that I have DVR’d multiple episodes of series in the past only to delete them because I simply didn’t have enough time – or the desire – to watch them all.

  • Mike

I was hoping we would see some press releases for daytime today, but nothing from any of the three networks. I hope that the soaps rebounded some.

  • jonboyelk

Wow, that’s not good news out of Prospect Park. I, too, have to admit I’ve seen only 2 episodes of OLTL. Not that I don’t like it. I just don’t seem interested in watching anything online.
