Southland S5

UPDATE: Monday Mornings has also been canceled.

TNT has cancelled Southland after five seasons, issuing the following statement:

TNT has made the difficult decision not to renew Southland for another season. We are enormously proud of Southland, which stands as one of the best police dramas ever made. Executive producers John Wells, Chris Chulack and Jonathan Lisco, along with creator Ann Biderman and our partners at Warner Bros. Television, have given us five seasons of powerful, unforgettable storytelling, for which we are deeply grateful. We also want to thank the amazing cast for their impassioned, no-holds-barred performances, and the production team for their tenacity shooting on the streets of real-world Los Angeles. We wish everyone associated with Southland the very best.

Thank you TNT for giving us all the episodes you did give us. Those were a lot of very high quality hours that I’m glad to have experienced. Now, with the news finally out, I can watch this season & know that it will end when I finally catch up. I’ve been impatiently waiting to watch this season but I knew in my heart I needed to know if this was the end or a new show. I had read that the finale could be worked as a series finale if needed, so I’m glad there is no huge cliffhanger.

Boo. However, TNT did rescue and showed the 7 unaired + 30 more episodes. Wish they could’ve worked it out by bringing in a new set of rookies, etc. for budget reasons. It was the writing that made this show great.

  • The End

TNT can make up for this, by giving Falling Skies a Season 4, nice and early ;)

    Monday Mornings also cancelled

@andrea… networks dont usually announce a show’s been cancelled… when they do it’s a sort of mutual this will be the final season coming up kind of thing… but they mostly inform producers and cast etc that the show they are working on is not getting picked up becasue this is the time of year the decision is often made… then word gets out… when you see these headlines that shows have been cancelled it’s just the producers and cast etc finding out and it leaks to media… it’s not the network announcing it… you do realize when a show is cancelled 100’s of people are losing their jobs… right? they go and tell their friends, agents, etc… then you got a headline in the hollywood reporter followed by deadline to here… x has been cancelled.

Is Bill D’Elia going to blame the Monday Mornings cancellation on you guys too?

  • Drizz

My wife and I enjoyed Monday Mornings, but I didn’t expect to see it renewed due to ratings. At least it had a comfortable “ending”. Honestly, on TNT I’m much more concerned about Dallas and Falling Skies, those are my TNT favorites.

And Monday Mornings is gone too, no surprise

  • Anthony Parello (AP076)

Lol, Pez I thought the same thing.

  • ChipL

Doggone shame about “Monday Mornings.” The ratings didn’t justify renewal, but I enjoyed the show.

  • Trey

How do you end it with THAT ending? This is why I hate networks. I don’t give a crap if they extended the show’s run, you can’t just leave it like that. I want to know what happened to Cooper. You can’t make one more episode or something?

  • LF

It’s kind of hard to be mad at TNT since they did rescue this from NBC. But, gosh darn it, I am bummed!

  • SmG

So Southland getting replaced by Last Ship from Michael Bay, this sucks :(

  • DonJ1973

It sucks, but the writing was on the wall for Southland.

At least we got 43 episodes of quality TV as opposed to only 7 if TNT didn’t pick it up.

  • BrieK

I don’t even watch this show, but I hate when networks cancel shows that have been on the air for multiple seasons without a proper finale. It’s not fair to the fans that supported the show through the five seasons.

  • Samu

We want a final 6th season!!!!!!!!!!

  • David

Give it to HBO – it is perfect for the network.
    Hell maybe even Netflix!

One of my favorite shows goes toes up. Oh well, that frees me from another hour of television. I enjoyed all five seasons and am grateful to TNT for taking on a ratings-challenged but well-crafted show and making it must-see.

Truth be told, I felt this was their weakest season and about half way through I thought to myself, “Gee, if this gets canceled I won’t be too too upset as it seems to running out of steam.” I hate the non-ending ending but this isn’t the first time I’ve been through it. 30 years later I STILL want to know if Jessica Tate was killed by the firing squad, if Burt survived the mafia ambush, and whether Chester shot Danny… :(

  • hirez

    what. just what.

terrible choice TNT. how can you leave it on that finale?

    I am dissapoint.
