Southland S5

UPDATE: Monday Mornings has also been canceled.

TNT has cancelled Southland after five seasons, issuing the following statement:

TNT has made the difficult decision not to renew Southland for another season. We are enormously proud of Southland, which stands as one of the best police dramas ever made. Executive producers John Wells, Chris Chulack and Jonathan Lisco, along with creator Ann Biderman and our partners at Warner Bros. Television, have given us five seasons of powerful, Unforgettable storytelling, for which we are deeply grateful. We also want to thank the amazing cast for their impassioned, no-holds-barred performances, and the production team for their tenacity shooting on the streets of real-world Los Angeles. We wish everyone associated with Southland the very best.

I am so disappointed to read that Monday MORNINGS is being cancelled. It was one of the best shows on TV, the writing supurb. Insterad cancel some of these inane so called comedy shows that are the least funniest on TV. Please give the viewers good quality and well written shows.

  • Jeff

To those blaming the writers of the show for giving us a cliffhanger to Southland, isn’t cable different from network TV in that each season is pretty much in the can by the time it starts to air, rather than network, where they only shoot a few episodes ahead of when it does air?

  • John A

Nah the actors on Southland wrapped on the finale when episode 5 or 6 was being aired.

  • Joanie G

I can’t believe you cancelled “Southland” AND “Monday Mornings”. Why didn’t you give “MM” a chance. It’s a great show. Gives you insight of day to day medical problems/solutions/information. Can you please, please, please change your mind on both of these cancellations. Bring back “Monday Mornings” and Southland. I will be depressed for a very, very long time. I guess I won’t be watching TNT for sometime.

    Cancel Southland?!?!?!?

This is a riveting show. I could not wait every week to tune in.

Hey, DIRECTV – PICK THIS UP…PLEASE!!!!!

  • Montecore

There is still one good reason left to watch TNT, they still air reruns of Law & Order. If that was the very last one of Southland the episode should have been lasted two hours.

  • Richard Tamasy

WHY !!!!! One of the best police dramas ever. They could have done a finale. NEVER WATCH TNT AGAIN You also cancelled Monday Mornings a good medical drama You lost me forever I hope I am not alone Pull TNT off all services

  • Richard Tamasy

Direct TV step up bring back Southland and Monday Mornings Dump TNT

  • K

This is why Tv sucks, dreck like Castle gets good ratings and fine shows like Southland suffer.

  • Patrick Gillease

I didn’t watch “Southland” but knew it was one of TNTs “signature series,” so I’m surprised at its cancellation. I guess it wasn’t a money-maker and was too far away from 88 episodes to get more renewals. I’m sorry for its fans!

  • Marty

Southland has a following and hopefully an Executive from Showtime or HBO will have the guts to take it and make it for a season someone can make a positive art as well as financial impact with Southland…direct tv?

  • Staff

Why do the probing and smart shows get the ax when we are bombarded with reality shows. The viewing public can’t be that mindless.

  • silvit

    @K

Well, many good shows get high ratings. You can be bad and getting good ratings and you cab be bad and getting bad ratings. People watch stuff like Duck Dynasty…

  • Mike

Was I the only person who liked ‘Monday Morning”?

  • John S

Southland was an excellent show but they “jumped the shark” when they made the most macho cop on the team gay. They had to rub our noses in it every episode with too many opening with him in bed or in the shower with a male partner. Many viewers are getting sick to death of having the gay agenda shoved down our throats.

  • jj michaels

That’s a bummer, but it’s ok. The moment Coop went off the rails at the end of the last episode, my first thought was “I love this show but that just ended it for me”. It doesn’t matter if he lives or dies. It was the end. They didn’t shoot Cooper as much as they shot the show. They knew there was not going to be a renewal.

  • Michael

I would love for FX to pick this show up.

  • Scifibookguy

“Monday Mornings” is the first doctor show I’ve liked in a LONG time. Of course it was canceled :(

  • Tom

    @ John S

“Many viewers are getting sick to death of having the gay agenda shoved down our throats.”

And thanks for shoving that political message down out throats. The message I got was that being gay didn’t make Officer Cooper any less of a man. On the job, he was indistinguishable from any other cop. You also apparently missed the scene in which he tried to get together with ex-wife so that they could try and start a family. As I said before, Southland’s portrayal of Cooper was probably the most realistic presentation of a strong gay male I’ve seen.

  • simsalabim

So that leaves nothing to watch on TNT. Southland was the the only good cop show for years.
