ABC has released a 7-second teaser for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. The full promo for the new series will debut during the Once Upon a Time finale tonight.

Update: now with the full 30 second promo.

  • JR35

There probably will debut quite well- whether it can sustain it is another matter. Remember when “V” premiered to a 5.2 demo rating? (the show got better as it went on, but that didn’t matter)

  • Jenny

That promo was weak, but they had me at Joss Whedon and Marvel

  • Feedback

@Tony, wow that’s a huge oversight on my part. I thought it was a 1-hour-comedic drama. I guess Betrayal would have to go there. Either that or they move Nashville, leaving Betrayal for Wednesdays at 10pm.

  • Shepherd

They honestly thought that people were going to make a special viewing of OUAT for a 30 second promo??

There was nothing wrong with it per se, but I always get nervous when the promo essentially shows nothing. It makes me feel like they’ve got something to hide. I still wish it the best.

  • Charles

First show in a few years that I will watch on ABC.

Science fiction/fantasy genre is an even bigger gamble on network television than traditional fare. Agree with a few other comments that Joss Whedon has a geek following but this is not a guarantee for a successful network run (other than maybe The CW where anything which achieves more than .7 has a good chance of renewal). Since Disney/ABC owns the Marvel franchise now, making the show succeed promotes the Disney corporate brand of movies, theme parks and merchandise so Disney has some serious skin in the game here, not unlike “Once Upon A Time” which is one big hour long commercial for the Disney brand. That being said, I still give the SHIELD a 70% chance for one full season and a 40% chance for a second full season.

IF this series is done right, and I stress the IF, then it has potential to be a MASSIVE hit for ABC!

If just ONE LITTLE THING goes wrong with it, then ABC are fawked. The one thing you need to realise is that when you mess with these comic book/superhero nerds, you NEED to get your shizz right. They will make or break this show. If they love it, then the publicity will be insane. If they hate it, the show will fizzle out… FAST! (Like Firefly & Dollhouse).

  • POIFanatic

The most anticipated show of the next season! I’m so there!! I don’t even like freaking Coulson and I’m getting excited for #coulsonlives!

  • forg

    Old Christine’s old husband! ;)

I think it will open big as well. ABC/Disney could have promoted the teaser during Iron Man 3’s opening weekend for more eyeballs but I think the awareness is already high for this

  • Neil

Joss’s Biggest Fan is probably watching the promo on repeat 24 Hours a Day, 7 Days a week for the next four months.

  • Samunto

This reminded me of Heroes. I could have sworn i saw Ali Larter there on the ground.
This will get hugely sampled. It depends on how the storylines develop and if it’ll have lots of mass appeal and how fast till people get bored of seeing people jumping and throwing around cars every week.
But i think it’ll last a full season.

ABC might get bullish and programme it Sundays even against SNF but it could as well be headed for the Thursdays 8 death slot. Yes, it skews more male but also some family fun. We’ll know latest tomorrow.

  • Samunto

Interesting idea with Shield on Tuesdays. Would be great conterprogramming against buzzy The Voice and give ABC a solid Tuesday.
I too think that OUAT in Wonderland could end up Thursdays at 8 too. But i expect changes on Sunday given how Revenge has dropped.

To start with I’m on board with this show. I have to ask though, didn’t Coulson get killed in the Avengers movie ? I like the character & hope to see Samuel Jackson make an appearance from time to time. I honestly don’t think they’ll schedule Shield on Sun or Thur but on Tues. That night needs a big shakep for ABC & this show could be its savior. I say dump DWTS results & plug this show in at 9pm.

  • Pete5125

Only choice is Thur @8PM, Sun/Mon would be up against football, Tue is a choice but their superhero (Fantastic 4 ripp-off)bombed their, also it messes w/ Dance result show, Wed is comedy, Thue 8PM is their dark hole that only Ugly Betty was ever a hit in for the last 3 decades, and their has to be something that can take on Big Bang Theory, I love Parks but its going to do at best a 1.5 demo which will be beat by FOX and CBS…could go Fri. but less viewers and less chance of success

  • Patrick Ausgewahlt

Wednesday after an hourlong Modern Family. It would be against NBC’s new Ironside and CSI. I think it would make it. Sunday sounds good too, but it would be against male oriented football. Same with Thursdays in the fall.

  • Video Beagle

@Dan “didn’t Coulson get killed in the Avengers movie ”

Yes, but in comics, if there’s no body, there’s no death, and we never see dead Coulson..just dying Coulson.

There are many outs from this: The easiest is that Fury lied. In the scene before he’s called the ultimate liar and the scene where he tells the Avengers Coulson is dead is revealed he’s lying there.

He was stabbed by a magic spear, so who knows what that does.

He’s a robot. Life Model Decoys (robot duplicates) is a standard SHIELD thing in the comics, and Tony mentions them in an earlier Avengers scene.

My choice is it’s never explained and when asked he just says “I got better.”

  • Scifibookguy

I hope you are correct about the time slot… Tuesdays at 9pm works much better for me than Thursdays at 8pm :) Besides, why would anyone want to put a good show against TBBT and 2AAHM on CBS, and American Idol results on FOX?

  • I like this show

Wait where is the mid 40’s female trying to make in the male world? ABC must of got confused when they green light this. Not panty shield just Shield…silly ABC.

  • KJ Styles

@Ted Craig- “Last Resort would have failed in any slot.”

I beg to differ. Last Resort had more buzz than pretty much any drama pilot last year except Revolution. It would have worked at 10pm on any night except Sunday. Thursday at 8 is the WORST spot possible for ABC.

I don’t want Shield getting that deathslot. Every show that ABC has tried Thursday 8pm against TBBT has been cancelled. If they’re gonna schedule Shield on Thursday, then put it at 9 and move Grey’s Anatomy to 8. Grey’s would still draw well in that timeslot and Shield would provide a great lead in for Scandal. Not to mention the Shield vs Person Of Interest battle would be HOT.
