M Night Shylaman

Tucked into FOX's schedule announcement was news of a new "event series" pickup. See below for more.

via press release:

New event series WAYWARD PINES will premiere in 2014. Based on the best-selling novel, “Pines,” by Blake Crouch, and brought to life by suspenseful storyteller M. Night Shyamalan (“The Sixth Sense,” “Signs,”), WAYWARD PINES is an intense, mind-bending thriller in which nothing is what it seems. Secret Service agent ETHAN BURKE (Academy Award nominee Matt Dillon, “Crash,” “City of Ghosts”) arrives in the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, ID, on a mission to find two Missing federal agents. But instead of answers, Ethan’s investigation only turns up more questions. Each step closer to the truth takes Ethan further from the life he knew, from the husband and father he was, until he must face the terrifying reality that he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive.

This guy SUCKS! He hasn’t made one decent film since THE SIXTH SENSE now he’s going to take a crap all over network TV, too?

    Nice…..

THE LAST AIRBENDER of TV, anyone?

  • Shepherd

I’ve never read ‘Pines’, but it sounds a lot like ‘The Colorado Kid’; at least the set up does. ‘Haven’ with a guy and a little less sci-fi?

  • NV

    Harper’s Island part 2?

  • Dan S

I like Matt Dillon & the premise. True M. Night Shyamalan has a spotty record but I’ll give him the benefit. The show will either succeed on its own merits or die. Only question is will where they schedule it ?

Deadline reports CBS picked up Friends with Better lives, now that is awesome!

  • Brian L.

I don’t care what everyone says, I’ve always liked Shyamalan and think he has more hits than misses (I adore Lady in the Water, and I know I’m the only person on the planet who does). I am definitely looking forward to this series!

  • cimmer

This is a chancy move. It sounds a bit like Twin Peaks but I doubt its going to have the quirkiness it needs to survive. One thing about M. Nights stuff is that there is no sense of humor to be found.

    What a twist!

  • Shiro

    This guy SUCKS! The End.

  • Barry

Another reason why not to bother watching Fox.

  • POIFanatic

Two of his movies are on my Top 10 movies of all time. He’s a great filmmaker who lost his way a bit. Aside from The Happening and Last Airbender, I love most of his movies (even Lady in the Water. You’re not alone Brian). After Earth looks really good. Better give him more chances than Michael Bay.

It will be the answer to a future trivia question: What show in 2013 was cancelled during the first commercial break in the first episode and replaced by an infomercial for catheters?

  • gerry

his movies are awful (aside from the 6th sense and signs(ish) )

he’s doing tv most likely because he can’t find a studio that wants to give him a movie deal, you know, because his movies are AWFUL.

you couldn’t pay me to watch anything he touches. which is a shame, because the premise sounds a bit intriguing. (but then, so the the premises for his movies.)

During their conference call, FOX said they were looking at a Fall 2014 premiere for this series (i.e. not next season).

Something I learned today: M. Night Shyamalan is still alive.

  • HalCapone

What is an “event” series, a limited run? Kinda pathetic they are promoting Fall 2014–is Fall 2013 so bad, we have to forward to the following year?

  • tomsman

    M. Night Shyamalan + Matt Dillon = nooooo thank you

  • vincentdante

The limited series concept is on fire lately. CBS has Under the Dome. Technically, the OUAT spinoff on ABC will be a limited series. FOX will have 24 as a limited series… Whatever they can do to cut down the repeats is fine with me.

  • SueP

I enjoyed the book “Pines” and I love Blake Crouch’s ability to weave a creepy, scary story. What Shyamalan will do with it, I have no idea, but if he can make it even creepier, more power to him. I’ll tune in.

I learned today: M. Night is still alive.

And one man CAN make a difference! *cue theme tune from Knight Rider*

Not necessarily a positive difference but a difference none the less.
