Definitions:

DVR (Time-shifted) Adults 18-49 Ratings – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data LiveLive+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs.

Live+Same Day(Live+SD) ratings include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing.

Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

DVR Ratings Increase Past Airdate - How many people watched the show on their DVRs within 7 days following the airdate

Until the 2009-2010 season, we used a show's LIVE program rating or viewership as the base upon which the LIVE+7 day DVR viewing was added. Now, the press seems to be standardizing around using LIVE+SAME DAY DVR viewing as the base for the calculations, so that's what we do now as well.

    @Linda

    For all we know Supernatural could have had a 40 percent (0.4) increase and just been shy of the Top 25 due to Revolution having a higher overall number.

    Now I say 0.4 because pretty much every every Live+7 has been between 0.4-0.6. So it just depends on what it did Live+SD. So because it was a 1.0 the +7 percent increase is a little lower. Next week it should make the Top 25 as the Live+SD was a 0.9.

    @ Television Town

    you don’t need to post the same exact comment in every thread.
    The 18-49 age demo is what’s important, not the # of viewers.
    Revenge still has a higher season average than BoP.
    BoP has more older viewers (which Nielsen doesn’t really favor)
    If BoP was profitable enough to keep, they would have.

  • Tessa

    @Linda

    Wow, Supernatural didn’t make the list?

    Considering its ratings bested Arrow’s this week I’d say the reason is because everyone who watches it, watches live. So there’s little DVR value since it moved to Wednesdays.

  • Alice

    man smash and Hannibal having such huge increases is very depressing given it made no difference to smash’s fate and probs won’t for hannibals…1.1 is better than 0.4 but still

  • halloween

    Arrow will be top cw show next year

  • ryan

    Wow at Elementary. It is only 0.1 behind Person of Interest in the Live+7 ratings. I wonder if it skews so heavily to DVR because it is at 10 PM or because it is against Scandal. Maybe it really would do better on another weeknight.

  • Carl

    @Tessa, isn’t it usually on the list? I never can tell what these mean.

    I wonder if it’s because it’s mostly up against reruns in these last episodes, less reason to DVR (I thought someone said that episode was against reruns, I can’t remember anymore).

    I’m happy about Elementary, I just wish I knew whether this factored into a network’s decisions. I know Elementary has at least one more season but so many are saying it’s not going beyond that.

  • SG

    I hate you ABC! Cancelling Body of Proof was so dumb. I can guarantee that the replacement next fall won’t do 9 M a week!

  • Carl

    I DVR BBT, SPN and Elementary, but that’s just me…

    I was wondering – if you watch the shows within the same night does it count as a part of their stats?

  • Melissa

    @Carl

    I was wondering – if you watch the shows within the same night does it count as a part of their stats?

    If you watch the show by 3am, your viewing will be included in the widely reported L+SD ratings.

  • Carl

    Thanks. Good to know.

  • Ateofi

    Castle received big DVR boost, as always. Now, Revolution gets barely 2 milion additional viewers, it used to get twice as such in the fall. This show will last maybe one more season. Elementary and The following are impressive.

  • F

    Go Revolution!!

  • Brian

    Revenge and Nashville have the same Demo as Body Of Proof with millions of less viewers ..mr. know it all!

  • lostboy

    Revolution numbers are not accurate, I am assuming that it is why, it’s highlighted in Red, because people I have talked to who watch Revolution said their DVR did not record the episode.. Man a lot of Revolution haters out there.
    Actually I am glad they are moving Revolution to Wednesday, now the debate will end on whether the show can make it with out the Voice. I do not watch any Reality shows or same old procedurals. Revolution is a Genre show just like Grimm. Revolution is not compatible with the Voice or SVU. Let’s just see how well Blacklist and Chicago Fire do with the Voice lead in. Chicago Fire is no Scandal. Scandal got a boost because of the Movie Django. The month leading up to the OSCARS Kerry Washington being in that movie peaked a lot of interest in her show.
    I guess next season will see if Revolution has any fight in them and can compete in that time slot. I am happy it’s on at 8pm so tired of staying up on Mondays’ to watch especially after the season finale of Dallas.

  • Billy

    This AGAIN shows me if NBC had given SMASH a decent time period and a chance to survive (ie. moving it to SATURDAY AT 9:00PM – THEN SURPRISE, YOU MISSED IT, WE SHOWED IT AT 8:00PM!!) it wouldn’t have been able to say, “We canceled it because it had NO VIEWERS”.

  • Judy912

    Great numbers….WAY TO GO CASTLE!!!! Now if they can keep it up for the finals, that will be something!

  • Jon

    I wonder when the networks are going to move away with the importance of watching the shows live to figure out the ratings. When will they catch up with the times and peoples ever changing viewing habits.

  • Chris J

    @Billy

    People had weeks to watch it Tuesday at 10pm before it was moved and they didn’t. Smash had it’s fate sealed then, and honestly after Live+7 it still only managed a 1.0 rating. That’s pathetic even by CW standards.

  • CybearSpace

    I read somewhere that these numbers do not include viewers who watch shows online. And yet, those viewers are an important sub set, are they not?
