    ITS OFFICIAL! tv has completely run out of ideas. better start on those gunsmoke and lassie remakes!

  • Theresa

    Yay! Cannot wait to see who is playing Captain Von Trapp with Carrie Underwood in Sound of Music! She is perfect for the role!

  • TVMAN

    Didn’t they already announce this? Carrie Underwood is awesome tho.

  • Ultima

    They just announced the date today.

    Yeah, I can’t believe they’re not just airing repeats of cop dramas and sitcoms that time of year. I mean, a live staging of a famous musical? We have those pretty much constantly – try something new NBC! :roll:

  • AppleStinx

    I’m not sure this will work. She’s too petite; the kids and the baroness will have to be cast accordingly – not a pretty thought.

  • merrranga

    @Ultima

    i was pointing out that it was a remake like many, many things on tv are nowadays. thought i made that pretty obvious. :roll:

  • Daniel

    They really think this new version will be better than the original with Julie Andrews?

  • merrranga

    @Daniel

    you’re assuming quality is even a factor in network decision making.

  • Alex

    @merrranga
    i was pointing out that it was a remake…

    Only its not so much a remake as a staging of an incredibly famous stage musical specifically for television.

    I kind of hope it does well. Just because its a bit different.

    They aren’t remaking the film. They’re going to stage the incredibly famous stage musical that pre-dates the film and the success of which prompted them to make the film.

  • Phil

    Sounds interesting!

  • Ultima

    @Daniel
    the original with Julie Andrews?

    Seriously? 8O

    The Sound of Music was a 1959 Broadway musical. The theatrical film with Julie Andrews was an adaptation of it that came out several years later.

    “Only its not so much a remake as a staging of an incredibly famous stage musical specifically for television.”

    that is by definition, a remake. someone made it before, they’re doing it again. remake.

  • uofmguy423

    I think it sounds awesome and will definitely watch.

    Although technically not as I don’t think anyone has staged the show for television before.

  • ChipL

    A reproduction of a stage musical is called a revival, not a remake. It should be interesting to see if they’re actually doing the stage version — or if they’re adapting it to be more like the movie (in which case it veers closer to remake than revival).

    The ratings will be on par with a typical Season 1 episode of “Smash.”

  • OddGuy

    Well at least they cast Carrie Underwood instead of Karen McWood.

  • OddGuy

    ^ And by Karen, I obviously meant Katharine. ;)

  • Laurence Glavin

    I’m impressed that a person involved in the pop/rock idustry would undertake to memorize a whole part in a musical. This group of people is marked by people who can’t remember the words to the “Star Spangled Banner”. I wonder if Underwood will have an understudy who will be at stage left or right to step in if she blows it. It happened recently at the Metropolitan Opera.
