Didn’t they do this a few years ago with south Pacific or was that a tv movie. I know they did this with on golden pond with Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. I am curious to see what they do with it.

Sounds like a crappy piece of junk..perfect for Loser NBC!

Sounds like a crappy piece of junk…

Personally I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve heard someone refer to The Sound of Music as a crappy piece of junk. That’s just how commonplace it is.

I predict a HUGE….nay, GIGANTIC…..audience for it. If they do the original stage version which incorporates some spice in the characters of the Baroness and her companion, it could put to rest the snarky comments about it being too sugary. One song, “There’s No Way to Stop It” is almost Brechtian/Weill in its cynicism. The original stage version was as much a smash in its own way as the movie version was in its way. Thus, I hope they do not try to compete with the sweet and lovely film version which is memorable for its beauty, but rather give us something which may shock those who look for a gemultlich copy of the film. This COULD be, if done right, one of the seminal moments of live TV and re-establish New York as a viable production opposite to Hollywood. In the early days of TV New York was the center. With the TONIGHT show and Seth Myers among others choosing NY as home base, SOM may cement the rising power of NYC. But…..do it RIGHT!!!!!

Thus, I hope they do not try to compete with the sweet and lovely film version which is memorable for its incomparable and un-reproduceable beauty, but rather give us something which may shock those who look for a gemultlich copy of the film. Prob relatively cheap to mount but as far as achieving anything in the target demo over low to mid 1’s is gonna be challenging, unless it’s the gangsta rap version. It would be fun to see ABC run the Sound of Music movie against it for a Sound of Music smack down night.
