ABC News’ “Good Morning America” ranked No. 1 to turn in its 3rd winning week in a row in both Total Viewers (5.821 million) and Adults 25-54 (2.127 million), according to Nielsen Media Research, for the week of May 6, 2013.  Leading the second full week of the 2013 May sweep, “GMA” outperformed NBC’s “Today” (4.905 million and 2.097 million, respectively) by +916,000 Total Viewers and by +30,000 Adults 25-54.  Further, “GMA” substantially increased its Total Viewer advantage over the No. 2 ranked “Today” compared to its lead on the same week last year (+86,000 on w/o 5/7/12).  Additionally, GoodMorningAmerica.com on Yahoo! reached 26 million users in April 2013. It is the No. 1 morning news website and beats Today.com by millions of users each month.

“GMA” has ranked No. 1 every week in Total Viewers for nine months (the last 38 weeks – since w/o 8/13/12) and in 43 of the last 45 weeks (behind “Today” only during the 2 weeks of the 2012 Summer Olympics).  Further, “GMA’s” 38 consecutive weeks at the top stand as its longest stretch at No. 1 in more than 21 years – since before the 1991-92 season; Nielsen’s electronic database started on September of 1991.

In Adults 25-54, “GMA” has ranked No. 1 in 26 of 32 weeks, representing the program’s highest number of No. 1 finishes in a season in the key adult news demo in 20 years – since the 1992-93 season.

“GMA” was up over the prior week (5.617 million and 2.050 million, respectively, on w/o 4/29/13) in both Total Viewers (+4%) and Adults 25-54 (+4%), scoring its strongest performance in more than 2 months –since w/o 3/4/13.

“GMA” also posted year-to-year increases in both Total Viewers (+12%) and Adults 25-54 (+3%) – 5.206 million and 2.064 million, respectively, on w/o 5/7/12), building on the year-ago week in overall viewers in all 32 weeks this season.  In fact, “GMA” stood as the only morning program to grow year to year in both measures as “CBS This Morning” was mixed (+13%/-4%), while “Today” was down (-4%/-5%).  Further, “Today” has not only seen losses year to year in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 in all 32 weeks of the season, it has turned in losses for the last 38 weeks overall, starting with the week following the Summer Olympics (since w/o 8/13/12).

Season to date, “GMA” stands as the No. 1 morning news program in both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54. It is leading “Today” by its largest season margin in overall viewers (+633,000) in more than 21 years and in the adult news demo (+72,000) in 20 years – since at least the 1991-92 season and the 1992-93 season, respectively; Nielsen’s electronic database started on September of 1991.

Season to date “GMA” is up in both Total Viewers (+8%) and Adults 25-54 (+2%) versus its year-ago averages, growing the most in the key adult news demo (NBC’s “Today” is down -13%/-19%, respectively; CBS’ “This Morning” is up +10%/+1%, respectively). “GMA” is seeing its largest overall season audience in 8 years and best Adult 25-54 performance in 4 years – since the 2004-05 and 2008-09 seasons, respectively.

For the week, “GMA” nearly doubled the Total Viewer audience (+95%) of “CBS This Morning”, while more than doubling its performance in Adults 25-54 (+111%).

Really not a big deal if they were beating them by maybe 2 million viewers. But Today is still doing good when GMA is only beating them by less then 1 million viewers.

CBS morning clearly the best show out there.
