With its late-night lineup of Jimmy Kimmel Live at 11:35pm and Nightline at 12:35am, ABC won the second full week of the May 2013 sweep (week of 5/6/13) in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49. The Net was up for the 2nd consecutive week in both Total Viewers (+7%) and Adults 18-49 (+7%). Beating the combined wins of CBS (5) and NBC (3), ABC was the most-watched network in late-night for the 10th time in 18 weeks with its new lineup. During the week, ABC topped NBC by 5% in Total Viewers and increased its advantage over CBS to 17% (versus 3% the prior week). Winning late-night in 15 of 18 weeks with its new lineup, ABC stood as the #1 network in late-night once again in Adults 18-49, edging out NBC by 2% and nearly doubling its lead over CBS (+28%) versus the prior week (+15%).

During the week of May 6, 2013, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live posted its 2nd straight week of gains in both Total Viewers (+4%) and Adults 18-49 (+5%). JKL was also up over its performance on the same week last year for the 18th time in as many weeks since moving to 11:35pm in both viewers (+33%) and young adults (+21%). Despite airing a repeat telecast on Friday, ABC’s JKL topped a week of all original episodes of CBS’ The Late Show with David Letterman for the 3rd week in a row in Adults 18-49 (+16%). In fact, this week marked the ABC program’s 6th win in 7 weeks over The Late Show with young adults. In addition, Friday’s repeat telecast of JKL outperformed an original telecast of The Late Show by 45% in Adults 18-49.

ABC News’ Nightline ranked #1 in Total Viewers during the second full week of the 2013 May sweep. Nightline led CBS’ The Late Late Show by +476,000 viewers and NBC’s Late Night by +11,000 viewers. Further, Nightline beat the CBS program by its largest Total Viewer margin to-date. Nightline attracted its largest overall audience ever in its new 12:35am time period (premiered on w/o 1/7/13). In fact, the ABC late-night program drew ABC’s largest overall audience in the time slot in nearly 6 months – since w/o 11/26/12. For the 2nd week in a row, Nightline improved on the prior week in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+14%), Adults 25-54 (+4%) and Adults 18-49 (+14%). On Thursday (5/9/13), Nightline ranked #1 in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 versus CBS’ The Late Late Show and NBC’s Late Night. In fact, Nightline’s Thursday telecast stands as its 3rd-most-watched since moving to its new time period.

If Kimmel continues this trend he will look to be established which is what NBC fears when they still haven’t gone through with their switch. Kimmel has done this before at midnight where he slowly continued to gain viewers while everyone else continued to lose viewers. Now Kimmel is at 11:35 slowly gaining viewers. They likelihood of him doing better with age is starting to look apparent.
