American Idol’s dueling divas showdown came to an exhilarating close tonight as Candice Glover was crowned the winner during the live two-hour season finale on FOX. Glover, 23, from St. Helena Island, SC, edged out fellow female finalist Kree Harrison, 22, from Woodville, TX, to win the IDOL title.

Glover capped her coronation on Thursday’s finale by singing “I Am Beautiful,” which is available for download exclusively on www.americanidol.com and iTunes. Glover will release her debut album this summer on 19 Recordings/Interscope Records. The album is available now for pre-order.

The broadcast from the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles featured performances by the reunited Top 10 finalists, and a star-studded “who’s who” of the music world. Mariah, Keith and Randy stepped out from behind the judges’ table and wowed the audience. In addition, the show featured performances by Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull, Jennifer Hudson, Jessie J, Travis Barker, Season Eight runner-up Adam Lambert, Psy, The Band Perry, Emeli Sandé, Frankie Valli and Aretha Franklin.

On Wednesday night’s final performance show, Candice and Kree each sang three songs. Candice performed “Chasing Pavements,” “I Am Beautiful” and “I (Who Have Nothing)”; and Kree sang “Angel,” “All Cried Out” and “Up To The Mountain.” Also, thanks to the Coca-Cola Perfect Harmony Program, Carly Rae Jepsen performed her new song, “Take A Picture,” which was a collaborative effort between American Idol fans and the pop sensation herself. “Take A Picture” is available for download on www.ai.com/perfectharmony.

Glover joins the ranks of other IDOL winners including Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze, Scotty McCreery and Phillip Phillips.

I didn’t watched this season, but I’m glad a girl finally won again! AI always has better female contestants than males.

    Which one is Candice?

    Which one is Candice?

    —————–

The one on the left. I had to look it up. :???:

  • Hillbilly

Not that left, your other left.

  • FowlScat

lost interest late, just couldn’t care this season. They jacked the judges up so bad it was tough to get through. Lots of fast fwd and lots of just watching elimination shows with recaps. Nikki Minaj is absolutely NOT what America is looking to watch on a show like that. Whoever made the major moves on that show in the past 5 years is drinking their own bathwater. One thing was clear, the girls outperformed the guys this season by the widest margin yet.

  • glover

Mariah Carey’s lip sync on her performance was just embarassing.

  • Casey

Kree should’ve won. Candice will never be famous and is not marketable. Candice should be on The Voice where they pick ugly people with good voices who never become famous.

  • msupdate

The right person won. Candice has one of the best voices I’ve ever seen on the show. She is beautiful and seems to have a good personality.

  • JC

This was probably the worst season for blatant rigging in quite a while. I get that “reality shows” arent “reality” but they made no bones early on that they were pushing Candice to win

  • Colin

Angie should of won… None of these two will be famous. I find it funny that Candice album is already on for pre-order.

  • jr YOU WING

The show is so done. Who cares? They fired everyone any way. The Voice rules now. Mariah is a joke.

  • Kangarookeeper

This was the suckiest season ever and the judges (excluding Keith Urban) were terrible.

  • Ralph Hahn

I don’t watch any of these reality shows, but Kree Harrison? Would you marry me? I’ll have your children!

I’ll betcha Candice won it singing “I (Who Have Nothing).” Powerful song. But, “All Cried Out” isa good song, too.

Kree looks a lot like Wynonna Rider witha little bit of Salma Hayek.

  • Daw Johnson

@Ralph, she actually looks like Rose from Two and a Half Men (+25 pounds)

  • David

Which one is Candice Glover? The photo didn’t have a caption to identify who is who.

  • Melanie

@David Candice is wearing the stripped shirt & white sweater.

Candice had the best voice of the season, hands down. I think she, Kree and Angie will all have careers post Idol.

  • Scandalfan

I’m so glad Candice won, she’s so talented, she has a great voice but had Kree won, i would’ve been happy too, she’s very talented and has a beautiful voice.

  • MichaelChickless

Candice is in the zebra stripes. I only watched a little bit of it but think that Angie Miller would be more marketable than the top two.

  • joel

They’re trying to create multiple stars. The most marketable ones don’t need the trophy because they’ll be successful regardless.

  • Georgia

I think most people did not watch because Idol was just short of being rigged this year. The top 20 were set to make sure a female was going to win. Keith Urban was a great, uplifting judge.

On a side note, if it seems SYTYCD has been “rigged” this year by Nigel, I won’t watch it either.
