Though Zombieland made for a surprise hit at the box office in 2009, it looks like franchise creator Rhett Reese couldn't extend that success into a TV series. Reese confirmed late last night via Twitter that Amazon will not be moving forward with the pilot, and blamed fans for their "vehement hate"

Alpha House, and Betas_ are the only two worth watching… Hope they get ordered.

  • Dan

Well, it wasn’t good. What does he want?

  • Joe

Cry me a river,Rhett. The show didn’t get picked up to series because it was a terrible, low-rent clone of the movie with weak production values and actors who didn’t even come close to the charm of those in the film version.

  • Daniel

I didnt know there was a pilot to watch

  • Gio

It’s always funny to see a bitter creator on twitter.

  • Josh Emerson

Those Who Can’t should be picked up. It was surprisingly funny and had a feel similar to It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

  • Daw Johnson

Alpha House is worth watching for the incredible Bill Murray cameo, which comes in the first 2 minutes. Turn it off immediately after that because nothing else is remotely funny.

Onion News Empire, like The Onion, tries way too hard and only scores with one out of every 30 jokes.

Betas is good if you like The Loop. Those Who Can’t is good if you like It’s Always Sunny or Workaholics.

I wasn’t aware there was any hate towards the show.

I liked it but I wasn’t expecting it to be just like the movie. It would have been a good show and I’m sorry they it wasn’t picked up. Pretty much everything else Amazon had sucked.

I really liked the Zombieland pilot, and I am a fan of the movie. I would have liked to have seen it become a real series.

I watched the pilot and didn’t hate it, but I didn’t feel like the characters/actors worked aside from the guy playing the Woody H. role. The three kids were a little annoying. Amazon, I don’t know, it just doesn’t seem like a good way to make a pilot. It almost feels like when writers go for self-publishing and it ends up cheap and tacky. But I’d still have watched more ZL if it had made it.

I liked it :( Too bad it was cancelled! It had the same humor as the original movie.

  • AniMatsuri

Joe in the 3rd post down pretty much sums up what I thought of the pilot.

  • John Doe

I’ll concur with everyone saying Alpha House is the only one that’s any good. Those Who Can’t is like an awful copy on It’s Always Sunny (it feels too forced). While I liked the FOX show ‘The Loop’ I don’t really see the comparison to Betas which I didn’t like overall.

What a BIG BABY. The show was terrible. No one is going to continue watching a horrible show or give it good reviews just to spare our feelings. Sorry.

  • Grimman

    It was bad

    Creator excuse bingo anyone?

I don’t think the pilot was that great either, but I honestly saw more potential in that pilot than in the other pilots like Alpha House. I think the characters would have grown on people over time. It’s also a bit unfair to compare the movie and tv series when there was 1) no way to bring the original characters back and 2) no way you could get the same amount of production value. Had it been its own TV series before it was a movie, the pilot still would not have been great. But the potential to grow would have probably gotten me to watch the first 3 episodes at least.
