I will stand by what I said even before the show premiered! The nail in the coffin for this show was casting the unlikable unknown Hugh Dancy. Nobody really knows him…

This is such a nonsense argument.

Who was the big name star on House before that launched? Who was the big name star on Grey’s Anatomy before that launched? Who was the big name star on Scandal before that launched? Who was the big name star on CSI before that launched? Who was the big name star on The Mentalist before that launched? And I could go on and on. Television doesn’t need major stars. In fact its incredibly rare that television actually attracts big names to lead a series particularly on broadcast.

The writing on this show is a mess and it comes off as a lame FOLLOWING rip off…

Utterly ridiculous. The Following is certainly an example of a show where the writing is an absolute mess but Hannibal most certainly isn’t. People may not enjoy the show (and that’s perfectly fine different people have different taste) but to suggest the writing is a mess is ridiculous. Its an incredibly well constructed and written show.

@zth, Kerry’s latest movie may not have done well, but she has been a few other movies that have: Mr & Mrs. Smith, Ray and Django Unchained, so she has had some box office success. She can do it all and does it well IMO. I think she most definetly deserves to be nominated for an Emmy for Scandal too.

First and I suspect only time I’ll agree with BigBrotherFan – but I do agree with him about Dancy’s subjective lack of charisma. I can’t tell if it’s the character he’s playing of it’s him (I’m not familiar with his filmography), but I was so indifferent to his predicament in the episodes I watched.

That said, even though I haven’t been able get into Hannibal, I’d rather watch 24 straight hours of that than suffer through 1 of The Following.

Was Hannibal shopped to cable first? If it wasn’t, why not? It feels like a very cable show.

I can’t even comment properly on your comment regarding THE FOLLOWING because you so conveniently left out the part where I said the following won’t be WINNING ANY awards!

What are you even talking about? In terms of charisma and star power even though they weren’t huge names KERRY WASHTINGTON AND TONY GOLDWYN (directed a ton of stuff TOO) where both pretty much B-LISTERS in Hollywood, at least Goldwyn still is but Washington is quickly working her way up to A-LIST status. The Mentalist while I do believe Simon Baker starred in MUCH MORE Hollywood films that Dancy has and had for in the span of two years “The Ring Two”, Land Of The Dead, Something New and The Devil Wears Prada, I would hardly of called him a NO NAME. Maybe a co-star. Robin Tunney starred in two HUGE cult hits of the 90’s THE CRAFT EMPIRE RECORDS! Dancy is virtually unknown due his odd film choices and a lot of his movies aren’t Hollywood..sad but true this makes him less known. This sort of show would of benefited more with a better name and I believe that! LOOK AT THE FOLLOWING! The show has horrible writing, okay? I never said It didn’t BUT the acting from Bacon is top notch and is the rest of the cast, not to mention the acting and twists!

American Idol had its best finale ever……so fun, so inspiring for Candice and Kree, with virtually nothing from the distracting judges. It worked.

The acting on Hannibal is fantastic, though? They have last year’s Cannes best actor winner playing their titular character. Laurence Fishburne. They got Eddie Izzard to guest star. It’s a pretty prestigious cast they have going for them.

I mean, *I* can’t get into the show either, but there’s nothing about Hannibal’s acting or production values to slam – hence the critical acclaim the show enjoys.

It’s one of those shows you just have to say, “hey, it’s just not for me” and move on. And if you really, really hate it, you can always rejoice in that it’s apparently for such a niche market that it may not last long.

Wow, I think this is the hardest I have defended a show I have no investment in since Six Feet Under.

I don’t even like its fanbase, it comes across as very snobbish and condescending.

I like Laurence Fishurnes acting a lot but not Dancy one bit and the Hannibal really fails in comparison to Hopkins. I can’t get past that! They really could of done so much better with the casting there.

I agree this show does belong on cable but I was reading either an article on here or a post by a poster who never gets their s@%& wrong basically stating that cable shows from the transition out of network tv lose 60% of that viewership. That leads me to believe that Hannibal would be getting a .4 if it moved to cable and isn’t exactly a great number there, either!

    More like delusional! lol

Please don’t even try and compare a Will Dancy to a Norton, either!

I love Big bang theory but last episode was weak for a finale. Looked like any regular episode, so wonder why it keeps adjusting up so much.

Only picked up two new shows since the season started: Beauty and the beast and Revolution, and I will be done with Revolution if they kill off Monroe. David Lyons is the main reason I still watch. been disappointing.

Wonder why BATB keeps dropping since they got renewed.

The Game blew up after going from CW to BET…

  • Iggy

…and that’s the only one we can think of.

The Big Bang Theory’s final average (5.25) ended up one hundredth below its peak season three average (5.26).

For those that use “Daylight Savings” for their fan excuse bingo, why does TBBT usually have the highest rating of the night for the Thursday shows, let alone an 8pm show?

  • Ed83

    Hannibal with a 1.1? Ouch.

  • uncwgrad00

I’m really hoping Hannibal can hang on. Mads is great as Hannibal. I’m with those that are not impressed with Hugh Dancy. He is almost unbearable to watch. I would be fine with a move to AMC and have the Bates Motel/Hannibal block. Bates Motel is just “ok” but I have watched each episode, hoping for more.

  • Lee F,

How do you guys think that Save Me will do? I love Anne Heche; I just hope that it’s not too cheesy.

  • huldu

I’m quite surprised they renewed Hannibal based on the rating. However I really, really like the show so I’m just glad they did. I understand a lot of people find the show too violent and all that crap. Couldn’t care less myself. I just wish the show was aired on a proper network because I’m pretty sure season 2 will be censored like crazy.
