    @Sam

    Howdy Sam

    Condolences and prayers to those being effected by the tornado in Oklahoma.

    Amen to that, the pictures and videos are horrifying

    I had a corporate apartment in Tulsa for 2 years and spent a lot of time in and out of the town. The tornadoes were common like summer rain to us! I would be devastated and the people would just kinda let it roll of their back. One guy I met there had 4 houses hit by tornados over the years. I still cant get my head around why they stay!

  • Chriscee

    the video coming out of Moore Ok is absolutely devasatating.

  • Jeff

    @Nothing is going to change…msnBS is over and

    This means things will go up over at msnbc and CNN….

    @FOX, 4 of 6 major shows over 2 million!! CNN and MSNBC NONE over 1 million

    This means things are still sinking at Fox, consider the sources!

  • Coffee Steve

    @Ratboy
    I still cant get my head around why they stay!

    Same reason I stay here in Mount Washington, Its home. The bad thing is this one of these areas somewhat elevated from Louisville and for whatever reason when massive Twisters hit, its usually close to here and on occasion hits here. Some months ago I posted You tube video of one here some years ago.

    Not to mention the stupid hail storms which destroyed my roof last year.

  • SteveB

    Forbes: The Weakest Economic Recovery on Record
    Sunday, 19 May 2013 08:26 PM

    By John Morgan
    Obamacare plus food stamps add up to the most jobless recovery in American history, according to a commentary by Forbes.Louis Woodhill, a Forbes contributor who is a software entrepreneur and serves on the Leadership Council of the Club for Growth, noted the United States is now 46 months into its third job-poor recovery since 1991.According to his thinking, while there is a possibility of faster real GDP growth, there is “no chance” it will translate into a progress toward full employment.”Whatever else Obamacare does, it drives up the costs and risks of employing people,” Woodhill wrote.”At the same time, the Obama administration’s aggressive expansion of alternatives to working (food stamps, Social Security Disability Insurance, extended unemployment benefits, etc.) has reduced the willingness of people to work for the wages that marginal employers can afford to pay.”Last month, America was 15.9 million full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs shy of full employment. Woodhill said that figure was in reality 1.6 million FTE jobs fewer than when the recession ended in June 2009.
    At the same time, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reported real GDP is now only 3.18 percent higher its pre-recession level in the fourth quarter of 2007, which he said renders the current recovery the slowest in American history.

    Because of poor government policies, it should not be a shock that the FTE jobs ratio is falling even though real GDP growth is moving higher, according to Woodhill.

    He noted corporate profits as a percent of GDP are at a record high, but questioned whether companies will start investing their $2 trillion stash of cash.

    “Sure, but they’ll do it in places that don’t have the highest corporate income tax rate in the developed world. And, given the enormous costs and risk created by Obamacare, an increasing share of capital investment within the U.S. is going to be devoted to replacing workers, not hiring more of them.”

    The New York Times reported new government economic data released Thursday contained some “worrisome signs.” Jobless claims jumped last week, while housing starts fell in April and underlying inflation indicated weak demand. The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits climbed to the highest level in six months. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits rose by 32,000 to 360,000, the biggest increase sInce November and a surprise to analysts, the Times reported.

    We only get them once in awhile up here in Conn. We have some odd weather coming the next few days.

    Blizzards and Ice storm but nothing like those tornado’s. Just one bad tornado back in 79′

    The Fed gov should do NOTHING to assist in economic and job growth–that is what Chriscee thinks. A corollary of this is that the gov should do nothing to aid in disasters, such as the OK tornados. The right wing philosophy makes NO sense–I hope the right wingers run on THEIR philosohpy instead of using dem philosophy in their false advertising….

    Bush, and global warming!

  • Coffee Steve

    They issued a Tornado Emergency for Oklahoma, that means multiple outbreaks are expected. That kind of warning is NOT issued very often.

    Time Warner is taking over Insight Cable, my Internet has been on and off like a stupid yo yo during their transitioning. I hope this isn’t indicative of their kind of service :-)

  • Chriscee

    @SteveB

    Thoughts and prayers for your friends in Edmond. We have some friends in Stroud Oklahoma who do missionary work with the Assembly of God Church.

    Very very sad…the pictures from around OKC

    Oklahoma…

    In the past, bible thumpers would claim that this is God’s Wrath and Vengeance.

  • BevAG

    It’s really important that government is not corrupt nor have the PERCEPTION of being corrupt. When I worked for government, that was ALWAYS told us from the top, from middle management and upper management. They always pushed on us the importance of being fair, neutral. We actually seminars on this stuff, which we all hated, of course. But the theme always was that the “People” deserved government employees who would treat them fairly.

    We sure have lost that. (And I was working in government only 10 years ago.)

  • Chriscee

    BS–this just in: you were reading a right wing economist who didn’t mention this is the WORST recession in history (other than the Great Depression)…no other recession as ubiquitous–it even almost broght down Europe which is STILL in recession. Then you have the GOP sponsored sequester, the payroll tax reversal, many natural disasters (the Tokyo earthquake and sunami, the east Coast hurricane, etc)–AND the continued OBSTRUCTION by the right wing kooks in the House (who have, as you right wingers admit, accomplished NOTHING). This is why it’s take longer than normal but things are moving in the right direction–US companies’ profits at all time highs, the Stock Market at all time highs, 33 consecutive months of job growth….etc, etc…..

  • BevAG

    My cousin lives in Wichita. I called her yesterday. She happens to be in Manhattan right now, thankfully, but she said her daughter was underground.

    I haven’t talked to any of them today. I hope everyone in that part of the country is doing fine.

    I wonder if FEMA has been told to be ready to help out with the tornado victims, but that it’s okay not to help out any conservative organizations or Jewish organizations or Christian organizations.
