CBS has decided to pull tonight's scheduled season finale of Mike & Molly and replace it with a repeat because the plot involves a tornado hitting Chicago. Executives decided the topic was too sensitive because of the tornado in Oklahoma City today. In a press release, a CBS spokesperson stated,"“Due to the tragic events this afternoon in Oklahoma, we are pre-empting tonight’s season finale of Mike & Molly, which has a related storyline. A repeat broadcast of ‘Mike & Molly’ will run in the time period. The season finale will be broadcast at an appropriate date.”

I’m not going to stay on here, and I must admit that at the moment emotions are running high- there are still people missing, and I don’t want to get on anyone’s case. You can feel how you feel about this, I just hope you can all try to be respectful in your thoughts, I like to think if something like this had happened in your home, we would all show the same respect.

Why are there children in school? You can’t tell me meteorologists had no idea this was coming. When we were under hurricane warning, schools were closed that Monday.

are you freakin’ kidding me, how is a tornado offending?

  • tim_m

I’m not trying to be insensitive or anything, but natural disasters like this happen all the time. Are we gonna preempt a show every time one has subject remotely similar to said natural disaster. Its part of life unfortunately it sucks but life must go on.

This is crap. I don’t live on the United States, but it seems like american people is soooooo sensitive with anything. A TV show is fiction! CBS is dumb.

  • tim_m

@rob its quite likely it just happened too fast. Anyone who’s been around tornadoes will tell you they can happen in an instant with not enough warning.

  • Androme

    You people are inconsiderate.

  • Ryan Stoppable

@rob60990: Hurricanes set themselves up days in advance, whereas tornadoes are much more sudden – and more localized when they do hit (this one being an exception).

  • Androme

    …and sad.

Yea I’m pretty sure RTL or ProSieben would even hope for higher ratings on increased awareness!
This Reality isn’t necessary but oh well.

Oh my God I am amazed at the stupidity that runs rampant. Maybe it’s not stupidity- perhaps ignorance is a better word. If you do not experience tornadoes and their unpredictability- it may be hard to grasp.

@rob60990- You cannot have nearly the same type of forewarning with a tornado that you do a hurricane. And why were they in school? SERIOUSLY?? THERE IS NOWHERE TO GO. When we get a tornado warning, we have time to take shelter and that’s it. Usually an internal portion of a building (such as a school) can be moderately safe. But this turned out to be one of the worst tornadoes we have had. It DECIMATED the structures it hit. One had to be underground, which cannot be known by everyone unless they have a radio listening to live storm chasers out there watching the freaking thing.
Political correctness? Really? This is being sensitive to tragedy, not being politically correct so as not to offend. It is being respectful. If you love this comedy so much that CBS’s thoughtful postponement of a TV episode pisses you off, well good for you. I will still be heartbroken and respectful of you if tragedy ever strikes- wherever in the world you may be.

That’s one of the stupidest things ever.

  • rob60990

I just looked it up and there were tornadoes yesterday as well. They do say it was worse than the May 1999 one which is surprising.

  • Uhh

@SJ, maybe if there was a bit more political correctness and sensitivity in Germany than history would’ve turned out a lot differently.

    @Cody R

Didn’t you just say you weren’t staying here? Why don’t you go to the red-cross site, while your there open up your wallet and donate some money for help with the clean up. You chose the wrong place to be preaching.

  • tim_m

How are we being insensitive to the tragedy? Nobody here is saying it isn’t a tragic awful situation of course it is and everyone affected is in my thoughts. But honestly how is not airing a tv show going to help or hurt? Honestly i doubt anyone affected will see or even know about the shows topic.

  • Jacob

Wow I think this is ridiculous, like someone said natural events happen all the time

I understand this tornado could be upgraded to EF5 if it tops 200 MPH which is very rare. Maybe CBS should just go with a news special in place of their comedies. ROE & H50 are the only 2 original episodes tonight & it’s still sweeps period. My guess is tonight’s episode will just be held until M&M returns in the fall whenever that is.

  • RyanCanada

thank god for canada and City TV, we will still get it, :)

  • Jacob

When are they gonna air the finale, I mean there is tornadoes all the time.
