IRS Offices Closed in Northern Arizona on Day of Tea Party Protests

IRS offices in Flagstaff and Prescott, Ariz. were temporarily closed Tuesday as protests of IRS offices around the country were planned by Tea Party activists.

“They have a notice up that says ‘temporarily closed,” said Tom Case, a Lake Havasu resident.

Case drove three hours and 200 miles Tuesday with his wife to participate in the IRS protest of the Flagstaff office, located at 1633 S. Plaza Way. This was going to be Case’s first rally.

“I follow the politics of the Tea Party, I’m not necessarily a hardcore tea party person,” Case said. “This IRS thing to me is just a total example of an out of control government. Benghazi, the AP, Fast and Furious those are all terrible things that are happening to us but this one at this point is just beyond all reasonable doubt that this Administration and big government in general is just totally out of control and none of the people in charge seem to know what’s going on. That bothers me more than anything.”

The voicemail message at the Flagstaff office states that the location is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and explains IRS closures for all offices on May 24th due to sequestration. The message also explains the office will “resume normal operations the next business day,” which would be Monday, May 27. There is no mention of a temporary closing for Tuesday, May 21.

Townhall put in a request with the national IRS office in Washington D.C. for an explanation as to why these offices are closed, how long they have been closed and when they will re-open. Townhall also contacted Bill Brunson in the IRS media relations office for Arizona. At time of publishing, IRS officials did not respond with a comment.

Bill Maher, Michael Moore: Republicans are Treasonous American Haters

Obama donor Bill Maher and wealthy filmmaker Michael Moore claimed Republicans are treasonous anti-Americans on HBO’s Real Time Friday because of their disagreements with Obama.

“What about trying to repealing it [Obamacare] for the 37th time? Is that a wise use of our resources and time? I mean, at some point obstruction becomes treason,” Maher said. “I mean they’ve also blocked Obama’s head of the EPA. There’s no head of the circuit court in D.C. You know, at some point it just becomes more about hating him [Barrack Obama] than loving your country.”

“No, they hate America. That’s really what it is,” Moore eagerly replied . “I think these conservatives and right-wingers really–for as much as they say they love this country–they hate it. They hate the government. They hate people… why is the government the big, evil bastard here?”

Maher reacted to Moore’s remarks and asked if the government and the country are two different things, but Moore maintained his claim.

“No, It shouldn’t be,” Moore said. “The government is supposed to be of, by and for the people, right? So why is the government the big evil bastard here?”

“Cause, Mike, it got taken over by a Kenyan socialist, that’s why!” Maher mockingly intoned with a faux southern accent, “That’s why we need our guns. We might have to take over the government.”

Moore then said he is not depressed about the Republican Party because the next generation embraces liberal ideas like gun control and gay marriage.

“They are not bigots, they are not haters” he said and then called the GOP a “squealing dinosaur.”

They support less religion Maher added, prompting an aggressive applause from the audience.

    THESE TWO PIGS…ARE JUST THAT….PIGS.

IRS withholds tax exempt status unless group signs oath not to protest Planned Parenthood

An outraged Sen. Chuck Grassley shared the incredible news that besides asking for the content of the prayers of a pro-life group in Iowa, the Internal Revenue Service asked the group to sign an oath swearing they would not protest at Planned Parenthood facilities if it wanted tax-exempt status.

Grassley questioned outgoing IRS acting commissioner Steven Miller during Tuesday’s hearing before the Senate Finance Committee on the IRS targeting of conservative political and pro-life organizations.

Grassley’s disbelief that the IRS would require people to compromise their First Amendment rights to earn tax-exempt status was apparent as he relayed the following story:

This comes directly from Iowa, one of my constituents attempted to establish 501(c)(3) charity called Coalition for Life of Iowa. She told my staff that an IRS agent told her “Your application’s ready to go. However, it will not be approved until you send a letter signed by your entire board under penalty of perjury saying that you will not protest at Planned Parenthood.”

Last week, Rep. Aaron Schock grilled Miller about the inappropriate requests for the content of prayers by members of the Coalition for Life of Iowa. Grassley continued the line of questioning in the Senate.

Grassley asked Miller if it was “appropriate even for an IRS employee to offer quid pro quo in the example like this,” CNS News reported. Miller said, “No.”

The exchange continued with Grassley asking:

Okay, let’s move on. That’s a good answer, because that’s the answer you ought to give, but how on earth could you let something like this happen under your leadership and do either of you feel any responsibility or remorse for treating American citizens this way?

    Miller answered:

I don’t know what happened in your given case, and as you well are aware, I can’t speak to it under the 6103 rules, but I do apologize for the treatment of folks, and look, there are two things that happened with these cases.

First was the selection, and the selection criteria was bad. Second was their treatment once they were in that group, and that too was bad, sir. It was. I don’t know whether this particular organization was inside or outside of that group, but the service that folks got was not the service that we should be providing anyone. There’s no question about that.

Homeland Security monitors tea party at Florida IRS protest

In spite of confusing messages and midday rain showers, the tea party showed up in force at the local IRS office in Orlando on Tuesday to express its dissatisfaction with the agency.

On a warm, humid Central Florida day, dozens of protestors turned out in spite of an inconvenient location and a somewhat inexplicable call to suspend the event amid a series of inconsistent messages from various tea party factions.

The protest was held in Maitland, Florida, a short drive north of Orlando and not surprisingly, North Lake Tea Party, long the standard bearer of the Central Florida tea party movement, was on hand.

The tea party was acting on a call to action by Tea Party Patriots Inc., which bills itself as the nation’s largest tea party organization, in response to recent admissions by IRS officials that the agency had intentionally targeted tea party and conservative groups.

A scandal that continues to grow in scope with each passing day.

Under the watchful eye of Homeland Security — yes, they were present — protestors carried signs that read “We Do Not Consent to Tyranny,” “Abolish the IRS” and “Don’t Target me Bro!,” making it clear they do not condone the use of the IRS as a political weapon.

As one protestor noted, it’s insulting that Homeland Security felt the need to be present as American citizens exercise their first amendment right, but decide to look away when suspected Islamic terrorist Tamerlan Tsarnaev travels back and forth to his home country.

Today’s action is likely to do little to change the face of a scandal that is now fully owned by the Obama administration, but it does serve notice that the tea party is still around. Even if it’s “leaders” are missing in action.

  • Sicilian Papa

Bang! That one was close! I don’t think it will turn into a tornado but wow it is loud!

  • BevAG

    @ Papa

    Where do you live?

I was in Tyler, Texas, two weeks go, just east of Dallas looking possibly to move out there. I see that Tyler today is in a tornado warning.

Life is rough there right now.

It is so great to see the many trucks that Glenn Beck got going to the OK area with food and other items. Lots of people helping out.

We really do have a great country with great people. All the other socialist countries, the people are so beat down they don’t even bother helping themselves or each other. They sit waiting for their government to help them or wait for the American people to help them. Here in America we all help out.

I can’t get there physically. I just made a donation to the Salvation Army. They’re out there. That’s the only way I can help right now.

  • Snap Tie

@ Chriscee” Then he shouldn’t have targeted the press. Funny you mention Flagstaff? Was just there one hour ago shopping. I live 20 miles SW of town in the summer..

  • Sicilian Papa

Manchester Conn. believe it or not. It was 90 and humid today. Some cooler air is trying to move in. Boom!

  • Chriscee

OKAY THIS IS THE LAUGH OF THE DAY….knowing what we know…

Obama: Journalists shouldn’t be prosecuted for doing their jobs

So Obama calls Capehart, Marshall and Klein to West Wing to get their marching orders from Obama.

Yeah…that’s really letting the press do their job…

Obama is so out of his league. He hasn’t a clue.

  • Chriscee

    More of Obama’s empty economy!!

ESPN, long considered a cash cow for the media giant, is laying off hundreds of workers as it faces escalating costs for sports programming and increased complaints about the fees it charges.

  • Sicilian Papa

The corrupt, secular, left wing, so-called objective media is going wall to wall with tornado coverage. I will let you know if they mention Lerner taking the 5th!

  • Sicilian Papa

They may go the whole news program about the tornado so they won’t have to mention The Obama Scandals.
