The Weather Channel Presents The Oklahoma Tornado Tragedy: A Weather Channel Special Presentation

One-Hour Special Chronicling the Tornado That Devastated An Oklahoma Town

Premieres Thursday, May 23, at 9 p.m. ET 

WHAT:         “The Oklahoma Tornado Tragedy: A Weather Channel Special Presentation” takes viewers inside the massive, EF5 tornado that devastated the town of Moore, OK  - killing at least 24 and potentially leaving upwards of $2 billion worth of damage in its wake - on May 21, 2013. The one-hour special recounts the 40 minutes that the tornado was on the ground, from its approach to the town through its shocking aftermath, as it leveled two schools, destroyed neighborhoods and cars, badly damaged a hospital and many more buildings, and caused  an as yet uncounted number of fatalities and injuries.

                    weather.com will also feature clips from this special as part of its comprehensive coverage of the Moore, OK tornado.

WHO:           Hosted by Mike Bettes, on-camera meteorologist for The Weather Channel (Weather), “The Oklahoma Tornado Tragedy: A Weather Channel Special Presentation” features interviews with Weather’s Jim Cantore, Dr. Greg Forbes, and Stephanie Abrams, as well as “Storm Riders” stars Simon Brewer and Juston Drake. “The Oklahoma Tornado Tragedy: A Weather Channel Special Presentation” is produced by Peacock Productions. 

WHEN:        Thursday, May 23 at 9 p.m. ET (repeats at midnight). The special follows the premiere of The Weather Channel’s new series “Secrets of the Earth” at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. ET.
