I wish we’d hear that Josh was getting a co head writer by the name of Kay Alden, Jack Smith, or Sally Sussman Morina on Y and R.

Are you sure the announcement wasn’t the one they just made about new writers on the Propect Park shows?

  • Harlee

I second that and wish Josh was getting a co-HW to strength the stories even more in the direction from someone that knows YR…

I haven’t heard no big announcement today yet so I’m wondering if maybe it was on AMC & OLTL, I’m curious to know.

  • Mike

    Pat F,

I don’t know. There still hasn’t been anything said.

This was one of Errol Lewis’ Tweets (he runs the SON site):

Remember what happened today on Tuesday. You’ll need the liquor then, I promise.

Some folks asked him directly if it had anything to do with Prospect Park or AMC/OLTL and he said no.

They have posted several stories on SON today, but nothing in regards to this or that is shocking. Maybe the holiday through it off.

  • ohiogirl

DOOL is doing quite well. I’m enjoying the storylines, however, it seems my hopes of a bigger Marlena/Roman story are dissipating. Whatever…I’d just like to see more of Josh Taylor…even better as a couple than they were as enemies, EJ and Samantha…these two could act from the phone book and make it riveting.

  • Mike

I am so angry. My DVR did not record the Jeanne Cooper tribute yesterday and I didn’t find out until this morning. Too late to even catch it on SoapNet. I’ll have to wait til this weekend and catch it during the marathon. I heard it was great.

  • Bex

Mike, check Youtube, the full video is on there.

  • Harlee

@Mike go to CBS.com they have it posted and next part 2 on be available on CBS.com for viewing other past casts and the crew that worked with Jeanne…can’t wait!

  • Mike

Thanks Bex and Harlee. I forgot about You Tube. I didn’t even check there as at one time Sony was pulling all the Y&R and Days stuff. I thought they still were. I know in one of the Emmy threads on one board someone posted links to the reels the actors submitted for both shows and within a few days all the links quit working.

I can get the You Tube vids on my TV. I can’t the CBS vids.

Another day without any writing regime shakeups? Could this have just been a rumor that didn’t pan out?

  • Chrisann D

Happy for Y&R and B&B. Wish it were all the soaps that went up. I haven’t watched Y&R for very long (1 1/2 years) but I really like it. Tuesdays episode was very touching. Go soaps!

  • Sascha

@Crisann D: The fact of the matter is: ALL SOAPS ARE UP BIG in comparison to last year!

Now, if that’s not a massive change from the “Soaps are dead”-hype and campaigns launched by certain networks and interest groups lobbying for all those cheap game and talk shows?!

Look at that great season average for GH, as an example. When CBS announced to cancel ATWT, GH was actually in the exact same position as ATWT. Here you see what can be achieved (and could have been achieved for other soaps) with the right plan to turn things around!

In addition to that, with the huge success of the new AMC and OLTL, implemented by an “outsider” and start-up company (!!), it becomes more and more obvious that the soap genre is NOT dead at all – to the contrary, it is THE one daytime genre that is best compatible with the medium of the future that people are using complementary to their TV set: the internet.

If I were P&G or CBS, I would begin to correct my errors immediately and re-start ATWT and GL just as it was done with GH and also DAYS, as soon as possible. The new ratings methodology measuring internet viewership will eventually be in place in the very near future, and that will radically change daytime ratings and the perception of the soap genre versus those cheap talk and game and scripted “reality” shows. Whoever understands this NOW, will be ahead for a very long time to come! It was a huge mistake to cancel ATWT and GL as well as AMC and OLTL!

  • Mike

The big thing about GH’s big turn around as you call it is that they have increased their overall household rating but even it has dropped from a 2.3 to a 2.2 since the 50th Anniversary. But they have not increased their demo rating. They have dropped there from a 1.5 season rating in 2010 to a 1.2. That is what sets their ad rate. Many of us don’t agree with that being what they should look at but the fact remains advertisers do whether we think they should or not. Even Y&R and B&B still have problems with their demos. Soaps have got to figure out how to get that younger demo to tune in again.

And the thing with Prospect Park has pointed out the biggest problem with online viewing — if the shows are not watched quick enough even online the companies still lose money. That is the reason PP gave for cutting the schedule to discourage folks from waiting and watching the shows later and watch them close to when they air.

You can add all the online or DVR viewers you want but in the end it can just become a bragging point and not really mean anything to the show.

  • Mike

Boy a site called On No They Didn’t (never heard of it until yesterday) is giving GH a hard time over the rape issue again.

  • Bex

Mike, that site is hilarious, I sometimes go there for a good laugh. GH is the soap of rape and baby killing, at least that’s how it was when I was a viewer. RC is a hack, he could have created an amazing character for Roger, but instead he turned him back into a sociopath, rapist. My guess is they are going to try to redeem him, it’s sick to think of them putting him with Samantha.

  • Niki

Get real the reason B&B numbers are growing is because there is no other soap opera in that time slot to contend with. Go to any message board many of the posters have only been watching for two yrs or less meaning that’s where they went when they lost All My Children. Duh..

  • JayTN

In most of the country B&B competes with the second half hour of NBC’s “Days of Our Lives”. While affiliates can air the daytime soaps at different times from market to market, CBS wants B&B to air at 1:30 ET and NBC wants “Days” to air at 1:00 ET.

  • Mike

Bizz — That is because you are a fan. I am a big fan of Y&R and B&B and I like them even when other people don’t. But I am also not a fan who accepts whatever just to have my shows on the air. When they do something stupid, I am the first to call them on it. And I definitely don’t get bent out of shape when other people say something negative about my show. Not everyone is going to like the same things.

  • bizzarr1000

verry true mike y&r has been good this week to have been watching

  • jonboyelk

Y&R was especially well structured yesterday. The scene with Lauren and Traci created a little lump in my throat. It seemed like better break down and editing. Hopefully it us a taste of things to come.
