I still think ABC is a fool by cancelling How To Live with Your Parents. It’s facing a lot of hard competition and the ratings are really great for a midseason debut.

  • peter

How to live with your parents aired 2 times without new modern family episode as lead in and got a 2.0 on its own the first time.

  • Marty

Nice work Criminal Minds!! The most watched show of the night and adjusted up with no lead in and no promotion. I’d like to see NCIS LA do that without their lead in. Their last original episode with the NCIS lead in was a 2.5 compared to Criminal Minds with a 2.8 and no lead in. Criminal Minds is the scripted #2 DRAMA…not comedy.

  • peter

actually it was 8-9 suburgaory that aired its finale and got 1.7 , then modern family repeat 2.0 and then how to live with your parents 2.0

  • Debra

Here is a list of the CBS dramas and where they ranked in the 18-49 demo
    11 NCIS 4.0/12
    20 NCIS LA 3.4/9
    21 Person Of Interest 3.4/9
    22 Criminal Minds 3.3/9
    30 Elementary 3.0/8
    34 CSI 2.8/8
    46 Hawaii Five-0 2.5/7
    49 The Mentalist 2.4/7
    65 The Good Wife 2.0/5
    73 Blue Bloods 1.9/6
    74 CSI:NY 1.9/6
    81 Vegas !.9/6
    85 Golden Boy 1.7/5

Oh just a note of interest concerning NCIS LA’s ratings. Nina Tassler pretty much admitted that they were being propped up by NCIS
That is why there is very little chance they’d ever move it a way from the mother show.

  • Debra

    @ Marty

I counted at least a dozen times this season where CM beat NCIS LA in the 18-49 demo despite the fact the mother show was propping it up.

  • ryan

Criminal Minds did just fine this season. Is it the juggernaut it once was? No. Is it still a top drama? Yes. Its lead-in is lower than what NCIS LA or POI get. CBS will keep Criminal Minds around for a long time to come. I wouldn’t be surprised if a character or two dies to keep costs down, but of course the show has to be careful not to kill off fan favorites so that ratings don’t decline too much. It may eventually move to another to another night and/or a 10 PM slot to make room for new shows, but CBS has other problems to deal with first.

Good numbers for Nashville. Here’s what ABC needs to do to start the next season.
Have the country music awards in September from 8-10 leading into the season premiere of Nashville. That would really create a buzz and get all the Country music fans to watch.

  • Martyman

Debra you are absolutely correct . CM performs well with no help. The only time it ever had a big lead in was before its premier episode of season 1!! It had the CSI lead in which at that time was big. As a result, CM got over 19 million viewers. Just saying.

The official season ratings results are in and CBS beat out FOX for the coveted overall 18-49 demo win. Not so surprising, CBS also won the 25-54 adult diaper wearing demo by a huge margin and ABC won the highly desirable female 18-49 demo. Poor NBC won no title and was third overall in the 18-49 demo but would have been fourth were it not for Sunday Night Football. Both CBS and NBC fell 3% vs last year, ABC was off 8% (due to declining DWTS ratings) and FOX fell a whopping 22% from last year (rock on American Idol).

Till next Fall, TVBTN ratings geeks! Stay safe and wear your sun screen if you can tear yourself away from television over the summer.

I am HAPPY NASHVILLE beat Chicago Fire because it really is one of the better of the two and I watch both. I am a HUGE NASHVILLE fan but I just wasn’t crazy about that finale. A previous poster mentioned it seemed rush and cliché and yes, it was VERY cliché and predictable. Of course, I guess your bound to have ONE BAD EPISODE among 21 that where next to near perfect.

I liked Hayden’s storyline line and how it concluded at the end. I thought there was some great acting on her part and singing. This is the episode they should submit of award consideration for her! Plus she’s such a babe!

@Bri Person of interest demo is a 2.90 rounded to a 2.9 CM is a 2.87 rounded to a 2.9( rounded as Nielsen and the C3 numbers are in all the reports I have seen). Will get the NCIS:LA 2.82 for LA rounded to a 2.8.
Okay, lemme laugh at this. CM may have the same “demo” as POI and NCIS:LA, but it’s clearly not equal, considering both shows earn more in ad revenue by 20-40K more per 30 second ad. Most likely because CM skews older. Google “adage primetime”.
You may want to tote the “#2″ but the fact remains CBS works on money, not ratings. And CM earns only middle-range for first-run episodes. May upfronts were only about a week ago, and if I were an advertiser, I’d look at CM’s numbers and see the dropping total, plus the A:18-49, take into consideration that CM’s probably aging OUT of the demo (as evidenced by the years of steady ratings, but demo drop), and I sure as heck wouldn’t offer much more to advertise my products on the show. And you’re kidding yourself if you think a show that’s more DVR-proof (ie Live+SD) isn’t going to earn more money than a show with a , even if ad rates are supposedly now based on Live+3. So no matter how you look at, CM either dropping viewers – or turning them onto time-shifting – does not look good.
And if I were CBS, looking at a show where it takes at least two commercial breaks just to pay for all the salaries of the 100+ people who work on it, plus all the other costs CBS now pays for an 8 year show, I’d take a good hard look at a show where a first-run episode makes very little profit. Particularly when said show already has 8 years of episodes I can sell to syndication that would be nearly 100% profit.
And oh yeah, definitely if any of that profit has to be split with another production studio (in this case, ABC Studios), because CBS doesn’t own the show outright.

  • Blue Sunflower

Uhh, Criminal Minds is a stand alone. It’s the show that draws viewers IN, not siphon off the episodes surrounding it. If it needs a lead-in in order to get ratings, then the show is doing even WORSE. Talk to “Fringe”.

  • Body of Poof

Why do the show-runners of Criminal Minds keep replacing the women. It’s getting annoying and boring.

  • Debra

    @ Body of Proof
That is the network’s doing and I miss Paget too, but the fact is she left on her own this time.

I’ve really grown to like Jean’s character and I hope in time more of the fandom will embrace her.

  • GARY

    No downward adjustment for Nashville!
Thank you Nielsen families you helped me get another season
of one of my favorite shows.

  • Chrismarch

    Nashville didn’t get adjusted.

    Haters gonna hate.

  • imogen

Hilarious how the lobby scramble to excuse Chicago Fire because its up against Criminal Minds ONCE when SVU has been up against it all season ,plus American Idol, plus Modern Family.

Great to see SVU as a 14 year old show get 1.7 demo in Finale. It still earns its place at NBC.

  • Lukes

As many here I’m really surprised by the cancellation of How to live considering the ratings it makes, but perhaps ABC has thought that it was too dependent on the Modern Family lead and that it won’t have a life on its own.

  • PurpleDrazi

You can quote me all the numbers and percentages you want. The fact is Criminal Minds was renewed and that’s all that matters.

    See ya next year! :-)
