I don’t see why they air new shows post-upfronts anyway, knowing that none of them will be renewed.

  • TV Addict

I personally found it interesting and funny that Revenge was right above Scandal in both the 18-49 and total viewer lists. Btw, I strongly encourage everyone here to go look at those lists, they are very interesting indeed.

QUESTION: Please someone answer me. Was I the only one confused by Motives marketing campaigne. All the commercials said the “series premier” was on Thursday. BUT (please correct me if im wrong) wasnt the series premier on Monday?????? Was this a mistake by ABC or am I missing something ???

  • PurpleDrazi

Out of curiosity I decided to check out Motive and I was actually surprised. It…didn’t suck.

It wasn’t a great show by any means but I have to grudgingly admit that I liked it. Well, I liked most of it. There were some parts I didn’t care for (including Lauren Holly’s cartoonishly obnoxious medical examiner) but overall I thought it was very watchable.

It would never survive a regular season but I think it could be successful as a summer show.

It wasn’t a mistake. ABC originally intended to run the premier on Thursday but at the last minute decided to take advantage of the DWTS lead-in and ran the show on Monday.

Ive watched Monday and Thursday’s Motive and I have to say I really like the show !! The lead actress is great and a strong role for her !!

with hannibal’s number’s they are either giving it to a cable station, amazon or cancelling it!

  • SJ

I mean, I know the reason why Revenge is higher than Scandal in the yearly rankings, but that still won’t keep me from enjoying the fact that it’s higher. :D

Wow, Motive has turned into a quiet hit for ABC. I guess this Thursday summer line-up works just fine. I mean, Wipeout is a shadow of its former self but if two scripted shows with the same ratings are considered good, then a cheap reality show must also be sustainable with those numbers, right?

  • SJ

Also, why is NBC airing repeats of a cancelled show?!

  • GARY

Congrats to Motive. I love Uma Thurman, so when you get Kristin Lehman
who could almost be her sister, in the lead, the show becomes must see tv for me.

P.S. Rumor has it there may be a Kill Bill III.

  • JJF

If Motive holds, ABC will definitely keep it as summer spackle.

  • Flame

Seems like TBBT repeats suddenly do not get adjusted up. Interesting.

Rob enjoy that 0.1 higher average while it lasts ;)

    @KJ Styles,

The Network already paid for those episodes so it’s all about trying to make some money off of them. If they can do better than or about the same as repeats, & not burn off the limited repeats* they have available of other shows then it’s best to air them, esp over the Summer (even May for New Shows), where demo just doesn’t exist in any case.

*From what I’ve read, for each new episode ordered, the typical initial order allows for 3 repeats. Meaning shows like Big Bang Theory can only fill slots with the same episode 3 times b4 they have to pay for more repeats worth. Also, the more you repeat a show, the more chances that the syndicated numbers won’t give you as much return, though Big Bang seems to be immune to that. However, that’s an exception/rare case.

I gave Motive a chance and really liked it. Hopefully it can build an audience.

You are not going crazy or hallucinating. ABC did broadcast episode 2 second and did indeed call that the series premiere. It is some weird Americanism or someone and their supervisor’s VP were really drunk when they approved the promotional campaign. In Canada the series premiere was episode 1 and it was broadcast first, on 3 February. Next week is the series finale on ABC and that is followed by 10 bonus specials. :) Not really, but if they did claim that i wouldn’t be surprised.

The premiere was originally on 21 May at 10pm but that didn’t work for CTV repeat simulcast because CTV had the Grimm season finale at that time and then it was moved to 20 May still at 10pm because that is where it fit on CTV and ABC but o wait crap once Thursday 23 May comes along that conflicts with Rookie Blue at 10pm on Global in Canada so how about we at ABC move Motive to 9pm rather than try to get Global to move their original series to fit our scheduling wishes. Since most Canadians get the US networks there is usually some provision against US broadcast of Canada shows prior to their Canadian broadcast and that would mean Rookie Blue couldn’t be moved. Most of the US doesn’t get Canadian networks so there are instances where a show will be on an hour or a day early in Canada.

Also, Motive did survive the regular season in Canada. It even got a promotion from Sunday 10pm to Thursday 10pm. While surviving on one side of the border is not much of any indication of success on the other side it did nevertheless survive and get a renewal. Not so many Canadian shows are put up against the American non-summer schedule so shows that are and can still get 1M+ tend to be considered quite successful. … and yet still noone has picked up Murdoch Mysteries for wide broadcast in the US.

The numbers might not be spectacular but Motive and Rookie Blue so far look to be a good back-to-back fit on ABC. Anyone else find it funny to have Louis Ferreira as a homicide detective in Vancouver at 9pm and then as a narcotics detective in Toronto at 10pm. :)

  • GARY

Love Murdoch Mysteries which I get via DVDs from the library. It
was strange to see Louis back-to-back.

    P.S. I miss DaVinci’s Inquest.

  • Buffy

What kind of numbers would a summer show such as ABC’s Mistresses have to get to get renewed??

  • Rebecca

I guessed right in the poll about Save Me’s ratings (yay, for once! lol).

We let the kiddo stay up and watch most of Wipe Out since her last day of school today was all party-party (plus then she had her birthday party)….and she loved that one of the daughter contestants on that “family night” had her name. Funny stuff. Had not watched it in a while, but at least it was on at 7 pm here so we could see it (with no other new shows of ours conflicting with it, now that my NBC shows and TBBT are done for the summer).
