TV Ratings Friday: '20/20' and 'Rock Center' Down on Quiet Memorial Day Weekend Friday

ABC was number one in adults 18-49 while NBC  was on top with total viewers.

On ABC,  20/20 earned a 1.1 down  27 percent from last week's 1.5 adults 18-49 rating.

On NBC, Rock Center garnered a  0.9 down 31 percent from last week's 1.3 adults 18-49 rating.

On FOX, a special airing of a series that normally airs on National Geographic Channel Brain Games: Blow your Mind scored a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating.

Definitions:

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.  More information on ratings is available here.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    Friday is not the same without CSI: NY. It was too expensive but its ratings were not so low for a nine-year-old Show. Blue Bloods is good but will not last long without it. I hope Hawaii Five-0 does decent next season.

    My guess is some pre-emptions took place for the CW. Those ratings for Nikita/SPN are rather high for repeats, particularly given that it’s Memorial Weekend Friday and loads of people are out and about.

    Fox did very little promotion of Brain Games. They have to be pleased with the results.

    I caught a little bit of the “Brain Games” special last night, but had no idea it was a regular series on a lofty tiered cable network (probably because my mother will never pay for a higher cable service than what we currently have).

    So imagine my surprise when I noticed this was a new special airing on a Friday night on a major network (albeit doing decently considering the low traffic for the night, especially after the season has ended). The Nat Geo Channel explanation makes sense, and makes me further wonder what the deal is with that Tailgating special airing tonight on ABC.

    So odd. We have NGC but not AMC and FX (which were included on basic cable package on our previous providers). We don’t want to pay for an upgrade because if we did we’re gonna have to pay for a buttload of channels we wouldn’t even watch. These cable providers are ridiculous.

    Fridays will be very interesting next season!

    CBS’s golden child Five-0 and the Flop Carrie bradswhaw will both be airing on Fridays. At least Five-0 has a built in fan base but Carrie will fall flat on her face! Maybe Tyra will help to keep her up but that’s highly doubtful! :D

    Nikita will be adjusted down. SPN always repeats good, but there was baseball in Chicago so might get adjusted down.

    Now that Nikita is ending people decides to watch it, which I’m glad. Hopefully CW give it at least 2-4 extra episodes. Great quality/action show!

    It’s pretty clear that it doesn’t matter what CW puts on Fridays. It’ll always get 0.2 – 0.4.

    Supernatural was around 0.7-0.8 for its seventh season on Friday. It also scored a 1.3 for its sixth season Premiere.
    Plus Nikita season high is a 0.5.

    You do understand that the U.S. population is growing and that overall TV viewership is increasing, right?

    wow at Shark Tank!

    But I think ABC should start airing reruns of Last Man Standing and The Neighbors maybe in June. Ratings will likely be lower than Shark Tank reruns but I think reruns could pick up new viewers in the long run. Let’s see
