"The phenomenon of MERMAIDS has truly been a watershed - and a watercooler - moment for Animal Planet," said Marjorie Kaplan, president and general manager of Animal Planet.  "These extraordinary television specials have electrified, challenged & entertained television audiences and online fans alike."

Perhaps the most haunting, lingering imagery from last year's MONSTER WEEK is the physical evidence linked to the existence of mermaids. In MERMAIDS: THE BODY FOUND, Animal Planet stunned viewers with captivating footage and an in-depth investigation of these fantastical creatures. During this year's MONSTER WEEK, Animal Planet revisited this startling, groundbreaking topic in the much-anticipated follow-up special, MERMAIDS: THE NEW EVIDENCE.  In an exclusive interview with Dr. Paul Robertson, former NOAA scientist who led last year's investigation, journalist Jon Frankel probes for the unfiltered story and reveals new evidence of mermaids that only has come forward in the past year.

MERMAIDS: THE NEW EVIDENCE is produced for Animal Planet by Discovery Creative.  For Animal Planet, Charlie Foley is executive producer, creator and writer. For Animal Planet, Vaibhav Bhatt is writer and executive producer and Jamie Dugger is writer and producer.  For Discovery Creative, Matt Katzive and Mary Clare Baquet served as executive producers, Christina Bavetta was director and Lizzie Turkevich was post producer.

The Onion news programs come off less scripted and more real than this program did.

I’m a total believer, I hope we can expose the government cover-ups and also the proof of this species existence.
We should also help them continue to exists.
Also to learn about them would be such an amazing experience. Almost as great as the discovery!

Beibs needs to chill, he gots all he ever wanted…and his attitude is going to ruin it for him. I’m sure they paid him a few grand, if not a few hundred grand to wear that hat for a few pics. Thats easy $, bro! I’m out here in the hot a$$ sun working for a few hundred a week! Justin, I make beats and music too and I’m nowhere near your success in your life. If I had the blessings you do, I wouldn’t take them for granted. These people want to work with you and pay you for taking PICTURES! You don’t get it any easier than that. Just do it and quit burning bridges or all the hard work you did to get to this point in life is going to be for nothing when no one wants to work with you no more. Just go back to being yourself because this ain’t you. Your the lil dude that made the world love you, everyone is just talkn sh!* about this Beibs dude…

  • Yea

    Seriously people? Seriously?

What’s really sad is not only is this show a hoax but it’s actually a sequel to a hoax and that many people still watched.

  • yourfriendlyneighborhoodscientist

    Guys it’s fake. I promise

  • mike

Here’s where I draw the line with television. I used to trust the Discovery Channel. After finding out this was one big hoax, I’m rather pissed and will not be watching this or any of it’s affiliates any longer.

They have half the world believing that the scientists depicted in the Mermaid show were real and that the footage was real. It’s rather disgusting and goes to show you how low our standards have sunk in order to obtain the holy dollar.

I hope it back fires on the Discovery Channel and some nut goes out and blows up a Navy vessel because they have been led to believe that the Navy is destroying aquatic life.

It’s just really sad to me that there is nothing on t.v. worth watching any longer. The Discovery Channel runs shows telling us that scientists have discovered other planets – probably a lie to get ratings.
They run shows with Stephen Hawking to convince us he’s some Einstein in a wheel chair, but now I think he’s just some deformed midget that works backstage at the Discovery studios.

I mean, really Discovery Channel?? You guys suck. All of you.

It does seem kinda hard too imagine this mermaid myth to be real but honestly if Animalplanet would never show it i bet in some way there existence would still come about somehow .I mean as challenging as it is the dephts of the oceans are vast as we know it . And being that the planet been here for who knows how long that the many more creatures that people have drawn for years can not be for nothing or plain imagination however if belief that the myths could be real in realality then whats wrong in t
hinking on the subject to be so open.if it helps why dont they at least caught one an put it in the zoo if not i guess we will never know
