ABC FAMILY ADDS MORE LAUGHS WITH MORE “MELISSA & JOEY”

With Season 3 Back Order and Fourth Season Greenlight, Series Will Reach 100 Episodes

Burbank, CA (May 28, 2013) – ABC Family today announced the network has expanded the third season of its hit original comedy series, “Melissa & Joey,” as well as ordered a fourth season, making this the network’s first comedy to reach 100 episodes. The order comes prior to the third season premiere on ABC Family on Wednesday, May 29, from 8:00-8:30 p.m., ET/PT, leading into hit comedy “Baby Daddy.” The additional Season 3 episodes will air in 2014.

“One hundred episodes is a great accomplishment for any series, and we are thrilled to give ‘Melissa and Joey’ the opportunity to achieve this milestone, as they’ve delivered hundreds and hundreds of laughs over the seasons,” said Kate Juergens, Executive Vice President, Programming and Development and Chief Creative Officer, ABC Family.

Along with series stars Melissa Joan Hart, Joey Lawrence, Taylor Spreitler and Nick Robinson, the upcoming third season features such notable guest stars as Sterling Knight, Shannon Elizabeth, Trevor Donovan, Marla Sokoloff, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Jaime Pressly and Doris Roberts, who will be appearing in two episodes as Joe’s grandmother.

“Melissa and Joey” is executive-produced by Bob Young & David Kendall, Paula Hart, Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence. The series follows local politician and former wild child Mel Burke (Hart) who employs down on his luck “manny” Joe Longo (Lawrence) as she raises her teenaged niece (Spreitler) and nephew (Robinson). “Melissa & Joey” ranks as ABC Family’s highest comedy debut ever in Total Viewers, and its second season wrapped as the series best to date in several key demos, including Adults 18-49, Women 18-34 and Viewers 12-34.

    Great news! Does this mean that the 2nd half of S3 will air during winter?

  • Greg

    I wonder what are their plans to air these 55 episodes. I think the best option would be to air 15 episodes on summer and 5 on November-December, like TNT used to do. These shows wouldn’t survive outside on fall or midseason.

  • Greg

    (These shows = Melissa & Joey and Baby Daddy, obviously).

  • Ron

    Abc family is rediculous,They still haven’t renewed S@B but they renewed this Crap.They asked on facebook which summer show are you most interested to see and hundreds of comments said TLG.They should renew TLG for a final 10 and S@B

  • Kaaboom

    great! i love that show.

  • Recollected

    Syndication bells are ringing?

  • Dillan

    I’m also finding this wait for TLG irritating, but what can we do? At least ABC Family haven’t completely rules out renewing it yet.

  • Dan

    Longest running ABC Family comedy and the first to reach 4 seasons it seems inevitable that this would happen.

  • Tony JJ

    I love this show. The cast has some great comedic chops and it gets me to actually crack up laughing out loud. Which comedies now a days have a hard time doing for me. So glad we’ll have more episodes and that it will reach 100 episodes! I hope it continues on past the fourth season!

    Baby Daddy is also a hilarious show. So glad these shows return tomorrow!

  • Sel

    Oh, Yess! This made my day!!!

  • Mike

    They filmed 15 episodes earlier this year, so I doubt there will be a back end to air in Nov/Dec.

  • DEF

    Hey Sara, am I counting wrong or something? Cause they keep saying 100 episodes with season 4 but season 1 had 30, 2 had 15, and if 3 and 4 both have 20, then it will only be 85… Am I missing something?

  • RyanCanada

    i really love this show! amazing cast, Joey and Melissa work well and have amazing chemistry

  • Sel

    @DEF
    I think the 3th season was supposed to be 15 episodes, and now they are bringing it to 30. Which makes it 30+15+30+20=95;
    I guess season Four is also going to be extended.

  • Chris

    @Ron

    Get over it!

    I love this show!

  • SJ

    …and Happy Endings and Don’t Trust the B are cancelled. Unbelievable!

  • DEF

    @Sel
    Yea this is all confusing cause some sites are saying both are 20 which would be wrong and even if Season 3 had 30 then 4 would need more…

  • david

    This is a great sitcom and great to know it will have another season. I am sure they want it to have one hundred episodes so they can sell it into sindication too. I look forward to it every summer.

  • david

    I think season two had 20 episodes in it. and they said they are adding to season 3 witch i think started out with 20 so maybe season 3 will now have 30 and season 4 will have 20 episodes.

  • Alan

    I don’t get why ABC Family keeps renewing this low-rated crap.
