Love seeing the way GH fans try to spin the crappy and well-deserved ratings of GH!

  • Deeann

I started watching GH every day in mid February with the return of Genie Francis. I havent watched it every day since 1981. The show is a mix of the great and the mediocre. Jane Elliot and Tony Geary are fantastic. I cant turn away when they are commanding the screen. The guy playing Dante is terrific, and so is laura Wright as Carly. Milo is amusing. The young actress playing Lulu can’t cut it. The “Franco” reveal impressed me as a disaster, despite the decent acting of Roger Howarth. Jason Thompson is a well-deserved Emmy nominee and the little girl who plays his daugher is adorable. I move from one scene that I cant turn away from to the next scene that is borderline unwatchable. What a mix!! My regular show is DAYS, which doesnt have quite the calibre of actors of a Jane Elliott or a Tony Geary, but it has a much better story pace and the relationships of the characters are warm and familial, with characters we feel close to. I think that is what is missing from the “cold” GH…….where are the LOVE STORIES??

  • Deshawn

People want to slam gh but what your not understanding is the three oltls are on contract they have to fulfill that contract or you can be sued its like a recording contract I’m not mad they had to change there names people are so ignored I’m not mad it’s that you see our soaps are already struggling why make it worse and as far as the new lulu give Emmy rylan a chance she was good on guiding light and y and r I give actors a chance I don’t just blast them she will fit in good im going to write Ron and frank because gh is lacking more storylines they should do a obesity storyline I can act on there myself or a colon cancer storyline the soap world never had those I think it’s a positive move but people that’s why they had to change the oltls because of law suit from pp

  • Mike

I get so tired of hearing this that GH had to honor their contracts. Where have you people been? Actors have been being released from their contracts early from almost the beginning of soap operas. And they have still been around. Actors get fired all the time. Sometimes simply because they run out of story for them.

Frank V. has fired several actors this past year who had contracts with the show but the story didn’t work out and they decided to drop it. One of them was the actress who played Christina and then there was the mob guy that raped Connie and Connie’s son. It happens all the time.

Genie Francis and Debbi Morgan both had contracts with Young & the Restless, but Y&R let both of them go. Sometimes it happens at contract negotiation time but many times it happens before that time.

A good soap producer and head writer are supposed to look at what is best for a show and do that. Sometimes that is letting someone go who’s story just isn’t working and move on.

Excited about the ratings for DAYS. I understand why the numbers are getting better for the show. I just watched the episode when Will got shot and Gabbie had the baby; I watched it twice. I had tears in my eyes for the whole hour. Just before this episode I was wandering what happened to the big May Sweeps storylines. I remember in the good old days when soaps had location scenes or big weddings taking place during May sweeps. Do outiside scenes cost more? I would think not considering there are not sets to biuld. I liked the location scenes. Is this now out of the budget for a soap.
NBC’s press release says DAYS ratings was impressive during May sweeps. I hope they are satified and do not mess with a good thing. NBC respect your only soap and your only true success on your schedule.

  • Rob R

Cab– I think you are right. The only programs on NBC’s entire schedule that they dont have to worry about are DAYS, the Voice, and the Nightly News.

I’ve missed GH lately. My question is now that Starr is Kiki how did they end the relationship with Michael? I actually thought they were a good pairing. From what I read, I don’t understand Roger H. playing Franco. Franco never was a long term character and I don’t see him being redeemed. Sounds like that makes Rogers time with the show limited. GH fan response please. Thanks. Good luck to ALL soaps as well.

So nice to see all soaps healthy again. But YR has been awesome with the vets and nice to see YR in positive area in all categories especially in demos.

  • PatF

Kelby…that’s the most you can share? Nice.

Pretty much great news for all the shows. Awesome that Y and R was up over 17% in that “coveted” demo. (18-49)

Days (which I don’t watch) I guess continues to prove that like the other shows that feature good character driven drama, like Y and R and B and B can show good ratings.

May seemed to be a good sweeps month. Nice to see all shows still up over last year.

It’s a sad day for GH when DAYS is getting better ratings, I quit watching DAYS a long time ago because of the stupid storylines, and now GH has the dubious honor of having even STUPIDER stories .. I cannot believe RC would let this happen. After the high of the 50th anniversary, when they had people tuning back in, they just kept shoving Sabrina, Felix, Brit and their uninteresting storylines at us, and now they’ve brought back the OLTL 3 as different characters, and it just isn’t working! I’m done with GH until they bring back the GH vets, front and center!

  • LaLa

Gh is totally boring release Fake Franco, Kiki, and Silas from their contract reason is Gh came in at #4 in ratings a all time low.

  • Mike

I found this interesting. A poster at SON compiled these for Total Viewers and the 18-49 demographic…comparing 2011 to 2013. We see so much focus on last year vs. this year, but 2011 was when there was so much talk going into 2012 that both GH and Days would likely be cancelled. It is interesting to see what the numbers are compared to then.

    Household Viewers 2013 vs. 2011

    Y&R 4,522,000/4,647,000 ( -125,000)
    B&B 3,414,000/2,829,000 (+585,000)
    Days 2,513,000/2,341,000 (+172,000)
    GH 2,505,000/2,448,000 (+57,000)

    18-49 2013 vs. 2011

    Y&R 922,000/965,000 (-43,000)
    B&B 736,000/537,000 (+199,000)
    Days 634,000/630,000 (+4,000)
    GH 604,000/673,000 (-69,000)

Good to see all four soaps up from where they were that same week a year ago. And special kudos to DOOL, which has been particularly good lately. As for GH, I’m hoping that controversial resurrection of Franco (in the person of Roger Howarth) doesn’t end up setting the show back. Unlike many, though, I’m willing to wait and see what RC and RH do with this revamped character before rendering a hasty verdict (ahem…Ms. Bibel).

  • Mike

I have sent several emails and no one from the site will answer them. Hopefully one of you will see this. But what is wrong with the moderation thing here now. Half the time that I try to post now it either gives me waiting for moderation and those posts never show up. Or my post just doesn’t post at all.

I can go away or post in another topic…come back later and sometimes post and it works. There are no curse words or anything in my posts. They just don’t show up. It gets aggravating.

Anyone else having the same problem?

  • Laurie

Yes, I agree…Days has been on fire lately!! The story lines are good and the acting has been really good…especially the actor who portrays Nick!! I watched Days faithfully since the late ’80’s, but stopped in the late ’90’s…even John and Marlena couldn’t keep me! I started watching again when they returned in 2011, and I must say even though I barely recognize their characters anymore, I am thoroughly enjoying the show and barely ever fast forward anymore…unless it a less than fascinating Jennifer and Daniel moment:)))

  • tj

@ Mike…It is not just you. It has happened 3 times to me where I’ve typed and hit submit and nothing. I think it’s just the occasional glitch not the moderators. My least favorite thing on this site now is that big advertisement for a new show and you can’t x it out. I know bills need paid etc…Oh and one more thing Mike. You might want to pose that question on another headline. Bill, Robert or the moderators give little attention to the soap postings.

  • Greg

RC and FV have made GENERAL HOSPITAL “watchable” again. More people have tuned back in in the past year since they took over. The few “haters” out there just don’t like change. Change can be good, and in this case it has been good!

  • jonboyelk

I’ve got one word for my fellow posters to ponder: punctuation. I’m really interested in reading what you gave to say but with one long run on sentence you’re giving me a headache. Mike, are you checkmarking the “not a spammer” box before submitting your comment?
